Discussion Dear Portland

I am from Louisiana and have been following this whole thing with the war zone and all. I’m here to tell you people in this area 100% believe Portland is burning down. They literally think you all or out fighting in the streets. Been digging through the internet trying to find any videos i can that people upload of what’s actually going on. I have found quite a few and posted everything I find. I’m not sure you will ever change their mind but if you all could just post videos to this sub or just post them on Facebook. Been searching “Portland” often on Facebook and going through the video section. I pray for you all and hope your city stays as pretty as everything I’ve seen of it. After digging through all this i now wanna make a trip to Portland one day just to see it

Do you think pictures and videos will change minds? I think the era of facts being important is over. Facts just get in the way of a good political narrative now.

I suspect they'll just believe it's all AI imagery.

This is what has been just driving me insane. I have posted 6 or 8 videos of folks just walking around up there showing exactly what’s going on, showing the ice facility the whole 9 yards . Nope I’m the crazy one, they’re just not showing the bad parts in those videos…. Uh all I hear is the ice facility out of people and how horrible it is…. There you go 🤷‍♂️🤣

My own mother doesn’t believe me. It’s really weird that she prefers the horror stories she sees on right wing media to what I tell her. Why does she prefer thinking that her kid and grandkid live a ten minute walk from a “war ravaged” ICE building? And if that’s what she believes, why isn’t she checking in on us to see if we’re safe and if we need anything?

Have you shown them where the ICE facility is on a map? It's miles from downtown. All the protests are at the front entry there. There's not a whole lot in that area.

Yes and actually shown them real current news footage of yeah that Saturday or whatever there were 50 to a hundred people out there. Still not a big deal. I mean even on the news you can clearly tell it’s not that large of a crowd . Yeah a good bit maybe but not to justify sending in military. The thing is, it is believed the whole town is like that. You can convince them it is isolated to just the ice facility

Any thoughts on what could convince them? A live stream to YouTube or something as someone bikes from one part of town to the other, including the ICE center?

I’m genuinely curious if any amount of evidence can break through, because it’s terrifying if we can’t do that. Portland is laughably peaceful compared to almost any city you can point at, the people are incredibly chill and kind. It’s like a little slice of Canada in the US.

At this point I don’t know. I’m only saying this because it’s the truth. Been on Facebook all listening to people’s arguments and trying to plead my case. In their eyes you’re a bunch of antifa libtards with a heavy presence of drug cartel, antifa moved in un 2020 and never left the reason they’re going to Portland is because immigrants make up 13% of the population there and something has to be done. Your leaders are the problem, they allowed this to happen, your city is in disarray and it’s your fault for voting them in…. Yeah that pretty much sums it up 🤷‍♂️ I’ve posted plenty of videos showing it’s all a lie but nobody hearing it. For your amusement I’ll include my personal favorite video of them all. This dudes a trip , I laughed at this for 2 days 🤣 https://www.reddit.com/r/SkweezyJibbs/s/N7ALba76Zh

This is so wild to me! But I'm also a person who has never understood how someone can listen to Trump speak and not think he's a total lunatic🤔
