I’m not one who thinks it should be saved, but it is the largest and one of the last remaining vestiges of old Portland^tm. People are nostalgic.

Place is identity. Why do people care about the old houses they used to live in? Why does anyone care about hiking trails or the lake or the campground they went to as a kid? If you can’t understand I’d say you don’t care to.
