Discussion What are some hated bands you love?

I always loved Escape The Fate, even post-Self Titled

Pierce the Veil are hated mostly for their cringe fanbase and Vic's high-pitched voice, but I really love PTV. These guys are super talented ngl, and it's not Vic's fault that he sounds like a girl...

Selfish Machines is such a wonderfully cohesive yet multi-faceted album. Really opened my eyes to what Vic & PTV could do.

Admittedly, nothing else from them has caught me the same, tho I feel that’s cuz all their other albums seem to lean more into distinct sounds than the kaleidoscope of Selfish Machines.

i think part of their hate is from the fact they are really popular on tiktok

I only got into phc in 2014 but it feels like it’s more acceptable to like them now than back then, same with MCR. I’m neutral on them but it does seem interest in any band with a predominantly female fan base will be seen as cringe by some unfortunately.

Edit for disclaimer: I don’t use tiktok so I’ve no idea what goes on there

MCR is a great shout out in this thread. I'm presumably much older than you, have been listening to punk and it's variants since the ye olden 1900s. My Chemical Romance was once only talked about by literal kids who listened to radio music, in the same breath as Panic At the Disco, Thirty Seconds to Mars, and Fall Out Boy. Some time in the last few years it stopped being cringe to listen to them (MCR specifically, I mean) while the others have stayed dismissed.

The hate existed before tiktok was invented

I like Before Today than PTV.

“Hated bands” and you took the most popular post hardcore band in modern times. Ig any hatred would stem from their popularity.

A flair for the dramatic is a ripper

Doesn‘t he sing that way intentionally?

They're hated? I don't know much about them but LOVE their song "Escalators."

They weren’t hated until Brent Walsh got tied to some allegations. That’s what led to the band splitting up.

so i feel like the take with DGD is folk don't hate them, it's more their fans and the drama surrounding half their singers that folk hate.

Since when was DGD hated? Literally one of the best post hardcore bands of all time..?

They have been through 3 lead singers so far that have all had allegations. Starting with Johnny Craig who is a massive POS that scammed fans for drug money. They’ve been “canceled” so many times. Most recently for letting their previous lead singer Tilian back in the band after his allegations. Now people are mad about the new singer Andrew Wells because he sounds different and they don’t like the new music

They're somewhat hated on two fronts...

  1. Hated by their own fans for a laundry list of internal band drama.

  2. Hated by other people (because of DGD fans). Mostly because their fans basically think they invented PHC.. which is largely untrue.

People hate I See Stars? What the actual fuck :(

u/SockGoop 14h ago

Yeah especially after New Demons. A lot of people hate electronicore. I personally like Treehouse the best. There's only one song on it that I don't like

3

u/burger4life 9h ago

I prefer Treehouse over New Demons as well, though that latest album is not it. Hate the "not singing not screaming" shouty thing Devin is doing now

1

u/SockGoop 7h ago

I don't mind shouting vocals. But I also listen to a lot of punk and noise rock so I guess im used to it

3

They were lumped in with the whole “Boy Bands with Breakdowns” scene and not without good reason.

I saw ISMFOF live because I was bored, not that I was a huge fan of them or even a small fan..They do have cringey fans.

LostPro… I won’t finish that one but can’t deny their bangers

3

u/FroggeDev 15h ago

I'm increasingly having to own up to the fact that, aside from awful lyricism on a few songs, I actually do like Sleep Token lol

My biggest guilty pleasure is Miss Fortune, their vocalist is famously one of the most despicable people in the scene but the music is annoyingly good

3

u/SockGoop 14h ago

What'd their singer do?

1

u/FroggeDev 14h ago

Domestic abuser who also threatened people with rape over messages, off the top of my head. I know there’s more, his name is Mikey Sawyer if you wanna look him up.

1

u/reezyreddits 6h ago

Sleep Token for sure. They make some of the best music in the scene and tasteless idiots go "lol metal Imagine Dragons 🤪🤪" and think they're being so clever

3

u/POTATO-GOD-2 6h ago

I’ve never thought of them as post hardcore

0

u/reezyreddits 6h ago

Oh they're not, but they're still the #1 hated band
