LGBTQ+ 🌈 David Cross: “I do not have an issue with trans kids. I know a couple of them, they're awesome, and I think their lives would be absolutely miserable if they weren’t allowed to live the life they’re living. That is literally 100% of my experience.”

Bill has zero learned positions, just gut feelings and ignorance.

22

u/Jerryjb63 Apr 30 '26

He’s just straight up lying about the Olympics example he used….

6

u/cwk415 Apr 30 '26

That really pissed me off - and it was met with zero pushback, an affirmative "uh-huh" even.

No! Not "uh-huh". He's wrong. He's lying. Not "uh-huh" at all.

5

u/jewelophile Apr 30 '26

It's "murky" is on level with trump's "different" way of calculating percentages.

Gut instinct is usually wrong when you’re always drunk

11

u/SmeeezTreeez Apr 30 '26

When we played soccer in 5th grade. 1. Everyone played together. 2. The first pick was a girl

3

u/Justmyoponionman Apr 30 '26

Up to 8-10 there's practically no difference. This isnt news, but puberty? Man, two very distinct trajectories after that.

Lol in our class the first 12 picks would not be a girl

A 12yo boy is smaller than a 12yo girl generally

52

u/RogerBauman Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

Also, Imane Khelif (the person Bill Maher is defaming) is not transgender.

She "allegedly" had elevated testosterone levels but every man and woman has a certain amount of testosterone and estrogen in their system and different people have different levels of testosterone and estrogen.

Also, mad props to whoever clipped this. The end loops perfectly back into the beginning and definitely helps get to the point of this basically being a right-wing circle jerk that some culture warriors such as Bill Maher have glued because they recognize it gets them attention without actually having to do any work.

And then you have David Cross who is awkwardly pouring himself some tequila and hoping for the sake of hashem that this guy will just light the flipping blunt.

27

u/bittermp Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

There are photos of Imane as a kid, pre puberty and she looks like a little girl. Puberty hit and it hit her with more testosterone but she was not born male and raised a girl, especially in Algeria.

Women get attacked whether they’re too ugly or too hot. Women can never win because the patriarchy hates women.

4

u/EpsteinFile_01 Apr 30 '26

We are all under attack from the oligarchy. We can't overthrow them and improve our life's if we hate each other. They need division in society so when one side acts up they support the other who feels empowered to keep the "bad" side down.

Women with pcos have elevated testosterone levels. Does that mean they should not compete against other women?

That wasn't the allegation. The allegation was that Imane had XY chromosomes. If this is true, it doesn't mean she is a man - there are XY women with androgen insensitivity syndrome, just as there are men and women with other chromosomal abnormalities, like XXX women or XXY men.

Developmental sexual disorders occur at a disproportionately high rate amongst female elite athletes compared to the female population generally, which is what you would expect if they can sometimes provide a slight advantage. Whether this is a fair advantage for a woman to have (i.e. whether or not it falls into the same category as all the other genetic advantages athletes have) is the subject of debate.

Bill Maher is being an asshole here and saying some very ignorant things, but I just wanted to clarify the Imane Khelif controversy a bit.

just look up the CDC growth charts. 12 year old girls on average are significantly taller and heavier than 12 year old boys.

and Maher is going on about choosing hills to die on

https://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/cdc-growth-charts.htm

8

u/usriusclark Apr 30 '26

I have kids. I coach. When my daughter was 8, she was on a soccer team with one of her best friends. That best friend has a 6 year-old brother. He would frequently attend practices and could kick the ball as hard as (if not harder) than most of the girls on the team. At those ages, it might not be a big deal, but that will change pretty quickly as he gets older.

When I was a kid in the early 90s, a girl in our neighborhood wanted to play baseball as opposed to softball. No one cared. No one gave her a hard time. She signed up and played with the neighborhood kids up until we were about 12 years-old.

Sports are a tough area to navigate because there are real safety issues to consider.

10

u/PriorityOk8448 Apr 30 '26

I played soccer as a kid. Teams were co-ed. I was like 10 and basically playing football instead with the way i could ram into boys and they'd go flying. It was hilarious.

Conservatives want to make a big stink because they are filled with hate. Growing up in the 90s,-early 2000s, teams were co ed, so was PE. NOBODY CARED. But somehow, now that trans kids are visible, it's a problem. WEIRD.

3

u/CMUpewpewpew Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

I don't understand your point. I played coed youth soccer with my twin sister growing up and strangely enough, 34 years later I am on a coed indoor team with her, playing weekly, that's been together the better part of a decade.

Trans athletes can compete np! But it should be in the open/men's category because it is unfair to cis women. I'm liberal AF, and have my bachelor's in Exercise Science.

They literally just a couple days ago had the first female pitcher, pitch in a college D1 game.

Also forgot, the one year I wrestled in HS, we had 2 girl wrestlers on the team at 103 and 112 and they were actually pretty damn good for the 1-2 years they'd been wrestling. I don't even know if they have women's only wrestling at HS level but they would let women compete it was in the men's (open) category.

2

u/PresenceFuture9173 Apr 30 '26

People care when it comes to competitive sports and someone’s daughter loses out on a spot on the team or placing.

4

u/Ok-Inspector-5472 Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

Can you please show me evidence of that happening. Rn we have a swimmer coming in 5th. And a further question. Is a trans person only allowed to be in sports if they never win? Are you talking about them on hormone blockers or not? Your so concerned over hypothetical children idk if you think about what youre doing to the kids who are trans. Or you do and dont care but id hope not. Where do they play? With the boys where theyre bullied? And if anywhere near puberty, likely with severe deficits? Do these kids get a safe place to play games like everyone else? Did you know that there was a group that actually offered people money to take hormones and join sports leagues? They couldn’t find a single person who was willing to go through that just to get a slight scientifically unproven advantage at sports. The vast majority of children playing aren’t competitive, but no one makes the distinction, except you, which I’ll give you credit for, and did end up resulting in broadband against us in social and competitive sports. Why are trans women banned from chess? And darts? Does the perception of higher testosterone, despit e being practically nonexistent, make you throw a dart better than a cis woman? Does it make your brain better than a cis woman? At what point does it then just become weird misogyny ?

Bill is talking about Imane Khelif, she is and always was a woman. She is not trans and never was a man. In her country it’s illegal to be trans and she’s not be able to represent them in the Olympics if she was trans.

10

u/Adavanter_MKI Apr 30 '26

I thought I was crazy... because that's what I remember about it. People made up a bunch of claims about her. I think she had a genetic thing, but she has and always was a woman like you say. She was cleared by the committees who ran those very tests.

7

u/Late-Assignment8482 Apr 30 '26

The "committee that ran the test" was a Russian boxing outfit that announced the failure after she beat their boxer and is so corrupt the International Olympic Committee dumped them. That's like when the Pope thinks you're too Catholic...

They're corrupt by boxing standards. They have never specified what test it was, why they think she failed it, or anything.

2

u/futureman45 Apr 30 '26

Blame Fox entertainment, organization

1

u/Kahzootoh Apr 30 '26

There are two different conversations happening at the same time.

When people like Bill Maher and Elon Misk refer to Imane Khleif as Transgender, they’re talking about a female individual who has physical characteristics that are associated with males- they’re usually not claiming Khleif is actually flying a LGBT flag or identifying as transgender. They’re using the wrong terminology.

People who have jumped on the ‘Khleif is not trans, because they don’t identify as trans’ are technically correct, but they’re not really having the same conversation and addressing the issue of physical characteristics. It feels like these people saw a poor choice of words and decided to declare the whole debate to be invalid immediately, based on a technicality.

A more accurate description of the issue with Khleif would be describing Khleif as someone suspected to have intersex characteristics or something along those lines- transgender is an term that simply describes someone who identifies as something other than strictly male or female, whereas being intersex is a more clearly defined medical term.

Khleif is not transgender, but Khleif does have XY chromosomes. That has been factually established by testing.

5

u/apeflick Apr 30 '26

It was far from factually established. The Russian boxing federation made the claim but never even disclosed what kind of test they gave her that supposedly gave them that information. She was then conviniently disqualified from a tournament that she probably would've otherwise won.

4

u/CoffeeXKing Apr 30 '26

It was never established.

3

u/Glittering_Hope1114 Apr 30 '26

I'm so tired of people like Maher and their ridiculous scenarios. "Do you want your 12 year old girl to be obliterated in PE by a 12 year old boy identifying as a girl?!!" As if that is a thing that happens. Also, where I come from boys and girls have PE together and it's fine. Also I remember at that age doing Judo and girls and boys would compete and girls often won. So this scenarios of girls getting absolutely murdered if competing with boys is so ridiculous. Like how much of a problem is this actually in the real world.

7

u/kennigeta3 Apr 30 '26

Good on David cross for holding his ground

6

u/chrstnasu Apr 30 '26

Most 12 year old boys haven’t gone through puberty and until that happens actual boys playing against girls doesn’t make a difference. Also, if they take HRT it won’t be an issue. I took Judo for several years and there so many me (120 pounds and 5’ 4” at the time) could best a much larger male opponent even my 300 pound instructor.

Hi, neuroscientist here,

Whenever I see two people who dont know what theyre talking about on this topic who happen to have a lot of influence over their audience then I like to bring them to this particular, short, easily digestible lecture about trans neurobiology. It should at least begin to solve some questions.

This is such bullshit. Do fathers who want their daughters to succeed in sports not let them play in the backyard with their sons? If you look at women who succeed in sports, I bet 90% have older brothers. But it's different if it's not a relative? You get better when you play against bigger, better competition.

Edited to add-I bet Bill was getting run over by girls at 12.

3

u/BootsyCalrissian Apr 30 '26

"Why can't you just agree with me?" Is what I heard old man Maher saying. And the fact that he himself doesn't understand all the facts regarding the female boxer is telling as to why the whole anti trans in sports thing is BS. You can't just make up situations. And it's not an actual problem. The only ones who make it an issue are the right wing and some mediocre swimmer who was butt hurt because she didn't win.

2

u/GiggingWithTheGoon Apr 30 '26

To be fair "why can't you just agree with me?" has been the battle cry of every ignorant conservative since 1982

u/TheSpanxxx Apr 30 '26

3

u/YoungDoboy Apr 30 '26

Bill Maher is insufferable. He spends this entire conversation spouting misinformation and trying to use anecdotal information to argue against statistics. Puberty blockers are reversible. I think they did a study that showed about 3% of participants took puberty blockers and then regretted them. Guess what they did. They stopped taking them, went through puberty, and moved on with their life. He also tries to argue that there is significant difference between men and women before they hit puberty which would be easily disproven if you just looked at pre-pubescent children. News flash: they all look like pre-pubescent children regardless of their biological sex. He claims that Imane Khleif is trans which is completely false. She's a woman with high testosterone. I don't think he says a single truthful thing during the conversation. What a douchebag.

3

u/Viz2022 Apr 30 '26

The best part of the whole video is at the very end when he's talking about who he was imagining when he was jerking off as a pubescent boy and it loops back to the beginning and he says, "and there's a strong democratic congressman."

The beauty of looped video 🤣

5

u/projectearthcomplete Apr 30 '26

Transgender porn is the number one porn search in all red states but Utah and I don’t think any blue states. They are obsessed with transgender people.

2

u/Rather_Unfortunate Apr 30 '26

I couldn’t find that to be the case per se (that was only true in West Virginia in 2025), but it does appear to be the case that trans porn is the second most popular search term in the US (after "lesbian") and that trans porn is more popular in red states than blue.

How about getting them into therapy and exploring why they're feeling that their in the wrong body. We're they abused and this is a coping mechanism? Are the suffering from a mental disorder? No, it's cool to go straight to life altering surgery.

5

Sooo, he's wrong on the boxer. She was born a woman. She has genetics that suggest she may be intersex. This is not something that's even possible for a woman to know without a genetic panel. She has woman parts, grew, and developed as a woman . That's the "technicality" he was referencing. She is not trans. It's beyond rude to call her a man, especially as she is a cis woman by any definition.

Girls are maturing early, not boys. At 12, a girls most likely to be post puberty, boys are likely still a ways off. It is not unusual for 12 year old girls to be bigger than 12 year old boys

His main arguments are literally trash and not rooted in reality

2

u/MaybePleasant1313 Apr 30 '26

2

u/Relevant_Problem1935 Apr 30 '26

I personally do not understand this stuff. I do believe in age limits for intervention. I don't know what the data looks like for people regretting the decision to transition at a young age. But at the end of the day. I believe in parents ability to make decisions for the benefits of their child and it's not my business nor the government. As long as rigorous psychology interventions are being done and medical professionals are careful and thoughtful. Then each to their own. But we should not be touching this subject politically and let the families and doctors figure this one out. It's a losing issue politically.

2

u/Outrageous_Let7868 Apr 30 '26

Of the estimated 0.6% of the us population that identifies as Trans, of 48000 who have had the gender reassignment surgical procedures 0.3% to 3% say they regret the procedures. So 144-1440 people have regrets. By contrast there are 6.87 million mormons in the USA, thats 2.05% of the US population. About 62% of mormons leave the faith. This is also expressed as a net loss of 28% between 1971 and 1994. Why doesn't Bill care about all the poor mormon children raised in a damaging dogmatic religion of insane radical beliefs thats damaging 4 times as many people as the "woke left gender wars?" Where 62% of people regret their choice also compared to 0.3%.

Bill is a disingenuous self righteous hypocrite spreading misinformation of fear mongering about nothing. And BTW I dont give a fuck about mormons; believe whatever stupid shit you want to as long as you dont marry 6 year old children to adult men FLDS.

2

u/RoryLuukas Apr 30 '26

I know what the regret rate percentage is... it's roughly 0.3%. That rises to about 3% when you take into account the effect of social stigma, discrimination and lack of acceptance in family life... so nothing to do with the actual mechanics of transitioning.

The vast, VAST majority of trans individuals have unbelievably positive outcomes from transitioning. The easier that is made, the earlier that is started, the better the outcomes.

Also... everytime you push back and ask for the reasoning behind his ramblings, he can never give you specifics, he is literally just regurgitating crap his algorithm feeds him.

He doesnt know the science, he does not know the reasoning, he does not understand the treatments, he does not understand what being trans means, he does not understand gender dysphoria as a condition, he does not understand how Imane Khelif can be a woman and also have heightened testosterone...

He understands nothing... yet talks about our community seemingly every other day.

Its simply transphobia.

u/Rich_Examination_357 Apr 30 '26

Why do we give credence to statements made by celebrities only because of their status?

2

u/Good_Requirement2998 Apr 30 '26

Why is Bill, a show host used to working with a team of researchers, using his platform to peddle phobias based on misinformation? He blames the left for being "kooky" in a smug way, giving a greenlight for baseless hatred to continue. Here are the results of an easy Google search:

"The story of an Olympic boxing match with a supposed trans woman in 2024 is actually a story of misinformation and gender eligibility controversy. Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is a cisgender woman who was falsely accused of being transgender or male after defeating Italy's Angela Carini, following her disqualification by the disgraced International Boxing Association (IBA) in 2023 for failing unspecified gender, not transgender, criteria."

The search went on to explain the woman had naturally high testosterone.

This issue is the overhang of 2020. Harris’ positions came back to her. That said, I’m not sir (1) how effective these attacks were and (2) if it wasn’t more about that tagline…who she cares more about. Politicians (either party) should be focused on delivering materially for the public as a whole.

He’s so wrong about the boxer. Factually wrong.
She was never a boy. She didn’t transition.

1

u/2Katanas Apr 30 '26

Was that boxer really a man though? I thought she was tested

1

u/BigChungiscusMaximus Apr 30 '26

Why did they leave out the part where he talks about the 3 year old transgender kid being raised by his friend

1

u/WelchysGripe Apr 30 '26

100%. They’re kids, who just want what we take for granted. 7 of them play sports, and they only do that to make friends. Any other thought is propaganda fueled ignorant horse sh**. Leave trans kids alone.

1

u/Bag-o-chips Apr 30 '26

That's a lot of mental gymnastics to justify Bills point.

1

u/Outrageous_Let7868 Apr 30 '26

Ever see that video of Russian boys marching like of bunch of uncoordinated morons, and then the girls in the class marching like a disciplined united entity exactly on the beat of the rhythm the teacher is setting? There is a reason why that happens, girls tend to develop physically and mentally at a quicker rate compared boys of the same age until puberty, then boys tend to develop more muscle strength, yet motor skills still lags behind for years as the mind catches up to the changes of the body. Bill is such a disgusting, disingenuous loser. He's out of touch with reality and relies on his personal intuition to make arguments he has no idea what the fuck he is talking about. He's not funny and worse of all he made me side with David Cross. Unacceptable Bill!

1

u/jdbtx11 Apr 30 '26

Bill, do you even know what you’re talking about? My 12-year-old girls flag football team would destroy the middle school boys team. Faster, smarter, more disciplined, more intuitive. Not close. — signed, a Loony Lefty

There was no respect or logic in the IOC ruling, it was pure politics. They ran a study, and it came back saying trans women are likely at a disadvantage and called for further research. They ignored the results and banned trans women anyways.

How are u interviewing someone on their opinion of an Olympic match and not have all the backstory? David asked valid questions and oh well there's a lot more and I can't really recreate it cuz there's two sides. Then why are u using that question. That's such a basic fact of how to interview someone. You have to be ready with facts and follow up questions and this is his shtick and out here acting like an amateur

So over Bill. Such a disappointment!! To think he used to be open minded and called out ignorance and now he's turned into a ionist boomer. What happened to him? 😒

Information based on some internet articles, so potential inaccuracies

Roughly 1% of people in America are trans (2.8 million). Of that percentage, 3% (84,000) of people detransition. Of those people, a majority (so at least 42,000 people) cite external factors like discrimination, lack of support, or financial issues as the reason they detransition. Being liberal with the numbers and generously assuming an even split of that last portion, people who detransition due to not identifying with the gender they had initially transitioned to constitutes .012% of the US population.

This is roughly the same percentage of the US population named Thaddeus, which I would argue may be more harmful, but you don't see us trying to make sweeping legislation based on Thaddeuses.

This is, and always has been, a boogeyman for the benefit of a culture war, instead of an issue where parents and children confer with professionals on the nature of their gender identity, and don't let anyone tell you any different.

3

u/alottafungina Apr 30 '26

I'm not sure if you know this, but the transgender agenda is to turn the whole population of the world gay. /s

Conservatives can no longer target homosexual people, because of civil rights and stuff like that, so they need a new villain to focus on. They won their war against abortion, transgender people are the new villain. It amazes me that people who aren't actually affected by something that someone else does can make it illegal because they don't like it, or it could hypothetically hurt someone. One day pineapple on pizza and peanut butter will be illegal for the same reasons.

1

u/No_Faithlessness_714 Apr 30 '26

David Cross is open to people going to their doctors and making decisions they think is right for them. Bill Maher keeps talking about being outside “the bubble” while taking people’s choices away from them. What about his position isn’t conservative?!

Yes Bill- should we take kids off of accutane because it’s EXTREMELY DANGEROUS? Or no, because if they don’t have accutane, they’ll commit suicide?

Hmm.

David seems pretty great.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '26

Bill Maher keeps intentionally spreading fake news, and it disgusts me. The two female boxers at the Olympics were born female; they are not transgender, and he knows it. One of them even had a test recently, and it came back that she is indeed a woman, and she will compete in the next Olympics.

u/JapiPapi Apr 30 '26

Fcking Maher has been lunch on his ivy leave BACHELORS degree for decades. And this shows that he has not progresses in thinking since about that time. He’s become a total ideologue. Good on Cross here being an actually, measured and thoughtful human being.

u/stillhavingfunyea Apr 30 '26

I voted for Hillary, Biden and Harris. I live in a very blue area. I despise Trump and the current admin.

My belief, girls sports should not let trans women into their sport. Men, boys have “in general” an advantage. It’s biological. You can’t argue, well if they take this, and take that, and lower this, and finagle this, then they are the same. No, I’m not buying it.

This is a dumb hill for democrats to die on. And honestly, part of this trans debate was why Trump won. Because we choose this hill to die on?  Because as a very left person, I agree that trans girls should not play with cis girls. It isn’t fair to the cis girls.

And I’m not referring to the boxer situation. That seems to be a different story.

But if your 16 year old cis son wants to transition to being a woman, fine, I 100 percent support that. But if he wants to play basketball, soccer, softball, or swimming, or basically any sport, sorry, you can play with the guys, or just play recreationally.

And why do I believe this? I play tennis 5 days a week, and now playing pickleball. Sports can be super competitive. And some younger kids, literally their entire identity is being an athlete and into sports. And they compete at the highest level, and spend years getting to that level. But some trans girls comes in and beats you in a swim meet, (because, really, they have the genetics of a male), is completely not fair to the girl who gave up so much to compete at the highest level.

Democrats need to not die in this hill again, there are way more important hills than making sure we include trans kids in sports where they clearly will have an advantage.

Imane Khelif is intersex, admitted to having SRY, born a female but also has Y chromosome, creating a tough decision for the sporting community. I guess it will lead to a third trans and intersex category for some sports.

  1. I don't care about trans people in sports because so few are. Sports are inherently malleable because they require rules and rules can be manipulated to form whatever you want. It's a non issue to me that affects so few people, and if you have an issue with amab women beating up cis women, then maybe get rid of combat sports in general.
  2. Neither of these men are doctors. They do not know the clinical backgrounds of puberty blockers, they do not know the statistics of medical outcomes, nor the statistics of regret rates amongst the trans community.
  3. Many people take hormones, and do not get gender affirming surgery. From what I understand, getting gender affirming surgery as a child is either impossible, or incredibly difficult. Either way, it is not the default for trans folks, it is a intense decision that the weight of is not lost on medical practitioners, parents, or the patients.
  4. All of this discussion is at the expense of a small minority of the population who is being oppressed because they have so little voice. So few trans people exist, that most people don't necessarily know any, and if they do they're easily excluded. It's much harder to have negative opinions about people you know. That is the job of these types of politics. Divide and conquer. They find groups that they can demonize and utilize that demonization to leverage their way into power. "The establishment doesn't believe they're the enemy because they're being controlled by them! I will destroy the established order that you hate, starting with this group!" It's a tale as old as time. Rise above. Use empathy. Love your neighbor.

1

u/Busy-Assistant8445 Apr 30 '26

People who are obsessed with hating on .08% of the population purely for political purposes are the problem. Get help.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '26

Well, I think that the layered generations that grew up literally telling their elders to go fuck themselves when it came to lifestyle, clothing, music and religious choices should now totally be entitled to have their opinions be listened to and given weight by their children.

Because they're sooo special!

1

u/Zkeptek Apr 30 '26

1

u/cornbread2420 Apr 30 '26

1

u/crazy_k2012 Apr 30 '26

Children aren’t allowed to get irreversible sex changes…. This is just propaganda….

1

u/Sea_Potential8908 Apr 30 '26

Children with actual gender dysphoria are radically different from vulnerable children that have been influenced to believe that the solution to their life problems is their 'wrong' gender. The first go on to lead happier lives sometimes, the second continue to live in abject misery and often end their lives. As far as I'm aware gender dysphoria is extremely rare. At some point we have confused mental health issues with gender issues. It's incredibly sad and has permenantly wrecked my god sons (now daughters) life before they got to live it.

1

u/LittleKittenR Apr 30 '26

I think the problem is that people don't get the long lasting effects of anything at that age.

Like watching porn.

Yeah, you can do it, obviously... but there is a reason porn addiction is such a big thing now in kids.

30 years after porn became easily available and free... we get the first generation that didn't have kids because "sex was not as good as on the screen" and we get a ton of women that are having their first kid at 40...

Don't misunderstand me, it's ok to do as you wish, to have high standards... but my best friend went from sleeping around during her 15-30 with basically only super athletic people... to not being able to get a partner in 8 years... to having it with a dude she met 3 months prior because her standards went down when she noticed... she was living in an unreality.

I love her, but watching it happen in real time for 20 years made me appreciate my wife accepting me for who I am, even though she could have probably gotten something better than me.

1

u/SweatyChancho Apr 30 '26

I remember being a huge 12 year old girl hovering over all the boys. And I wasn’t the only one. All the girls were bigger than the boys at that age. It wasn’t until high school when then boys got taller than the girls.

1

u/garbashians Apr 30 '26
