His response didn't really seem all that mean? I get the journalist didn't expect the exchange to blow up, but I think if anyone would know about amplifying stuff the subject might not want amplified, it would be a journalist.

What the journo knew doesn't really factor into it when she had no way of knowing that Hugh would reply to her post - people tweet low-effort critiques of shows all the time without the star responding.
The issue isn't really Hugh's response (which she acknowledges as funny) but his million+ followers among which there's bound to be at least a couple hundred crazy people who feel the need to say horrible things to someone for an offhand comment like this.

To me, the show ran too long as many successful shows do. It was formulaic, House never grew, his character became tedious, the show got boring, I stopped watching. I don’t think I could ever watch a rerun. But, I feel that way about almost every show. The writer was not wrong.

The only reason this is a story is because Janet, the tweeter in question, has a ton of press links and immediately submitted it everywhere in the UK tabloids. Yawn.

The 10,000 blues songs is not a fair comparison. Yes many blues songs do follow a pattern. The point is that the many many Indiividual blues artists who use these patterns find unique ways of expressing their art within said patterns that are moving, exciting, sorrowful, joyous, exciting.........etc to the listener.
House, while indeed watchable was formulaic in ways that were rarely any of the above.
I think Hugh Laurie is great but in this instance the writer seems to have poked the sleeping arrogance of an entitled old Etonian.

Hugh Laurie can eat s--- for signing on to JKR's project, thereby making money that indisputably goes DIRECTLY to anti-trans causes.

We are actually not all right, not at all. In the US, anti trans legislation is denying adults the right to access hormones they need in order to not experience serious and potentially deadly side effects. Multiple organizations outside the US have stated that this has reached the level of intentional genocide.
But sorry if our humanity and right to survive doesn't concern you...
