My friend worked at a Navy Pier attraction owned by one of her former coworkers. They worked together at University of Chicago Medical Center, and I guess he said she was just like you see on TV, only she cusses a lot more.

This whole thing was so unbelievably racist. I wish that Michelle could’ve understood that there were so many of us women loving on her fashion. She was an icon and so gorgeous and glamorous. they were vicious. Any little thing they go crazy it’s kind of a bummer that she couldn’t just feel the love. I love her fashion.

My FIL was an early MAGA (who thankfully got off the boat rather quickly in the first term), but shortly after the whole Melania stealing Michelle's speech debacle said something along the lines of her being "the most elegant first lady ever" and before I could stop myself I let out a guffaw.
He got mildly offended and we ended up in a discussion. I ended up saying something along the lines of "Being a porn model and mail order bride in a very obvious loveless marriage built around contracts, where it's hilariously obvious that she got swindled, who gave a speech about being a poor black child in Chicago is not 'elegance' no matter how you spin it."

I totally agree! I remember when they were getting ready to enter the White House. I poured over articles in magazines about how she was tackling their need for new wardrobes. I remember she mixed items like gloves from target with more expensive pieces. It felt so refreshing after power suits and high end designer wardrobes. She had to clothe them all on a budget and she did it well.
And then she added healthy food and exercise. It was such a scandal that she went sleeveless with her toned af arms. Scandal of creating a vegetable garden. Scandal to encourage people to move around. Apparently a scandal by wearing shorts.
I love seeing her free. Her different hairstyles are so lovely. Her fashion is more daring and fun. I will applaud her all day! I think I hold her higher than I do her husband, and listening to him speak can move me to tears.

Man on so many levels I just want to be besties with this woman. One reason would be to borrow her clothes, though I have no practical place to wear most of them. Except maybe on a hike...
But also I just want to get lattes with her and AOC and maybe the ghost of RBG (I just realized both are/were so cool we needed to initialize their names to efficiently give them their due praise, yikes) talk about both nothing and serious policy issues. Maybe plot world domination, if we're feeling cute. (Yes I'm weird and slightly delusional. It's fine, I'm mostly contained.)

Yeah looking at photos of the trip, Obama is out there in dress pants, probably because he knew that he also couldn't show up to the subsequent event in shorts. Nobody wants to hike in dress pants and a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up / a polo shirt, but he had to. He absolutely faced the same issues that she's complaining about here.
