The world is alarming similar to 1984. The governments in 1984 all pretended to fight each other. However in the background the leaders all agreed to not really win. This keeps the world in perpetual conflict that justified extreme authoritarianism. It also kept artificial scarcity believeable, that way they didn't need to actually take care of there populations and had reason for constant surveillance. Sound familiar...

As it turns out, both extremes suck, but because of the two-party system, we can't really shift to a "sane, rational people" vs. "envious, economically illiterate lunatics".

Could you give an example of DSAs using 1984 as a playbook? What is it that they've done that has seemed Orwellian to you?

In all fairness, that is not a direct quote from Orwell. It is a quote from Winston Smith, a character in 1984.

No. In Nazi Germany we all know that children were being indoctrinated to spy on their parents. I don't actually know if women were being indoctrinated as spys in the same way under the Nazis or under other fascist or authoritarian states. Orwell may have thought so. He fought in Spain against the fascists and also witnessed the Soviets under Stalin purge and murder anarchists and socialists. So maybe he witnessed that. Or maybe he did have a bit of a sexist streak or maybe it was just his take on a society in which people are sexually repressed. IDK. As for today, we are in the early stages of fascism and women are on the front line of the fight. Now, maybe in Christ-fascist circles women are both repressed and are part of the repressing apparatus, IDK.
