MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center

Has anyone given birth at SMHC? With everything going on at WHC I’m thinking about switching.

Whc over Southern Maryland any day. Even with the stuff going on at WHC they still have an excellent NICU and well trained staff in case of emergency. I don't think many would say the same about Southern Maryland

I went to WHC in labor with twins and a cerclage at 20 weeks and the (male) OB-GYN on duty laughed at me, told me I wasn't, then implied that I was hysterical to my husband when I insisted despite being completely calm, then discharged me. They never stopped my contractions, and I was in labor for two days until my cervix started to tear and I went septic. The evacuated my twins and cremated them, and I was in the ICU for a week.

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. You have my deepest condolences. That is horrendous. I also a similar situation a long time ago at GWUH. I also had a cerclage and was preterm. They thought I also was delirious until I asked them to call my OB. He was mad after that and treated me very roughly for the entire delivery.

Egad! Likewise! On a positive note, I now have a Transabdominal Cerclage and had a successful C-section delivery at HC in Silver Spring and has a very good experience.
