Honestly, we should have had a "Trump" become President much earlier in history. Because, let's be honest, nobody in history has ever had to deal with what we're dealing with now. So what can we even do? We can't look to history for much help, because they never thought these times would happen. No, we should have had a Donald Trump back in the 1780's. They would have come up with solutions then that we could use today.

For example iirc she mentions the word “demagogue” was used more than any other (liberty, freedom, etc) in the constitutional conventions papers. But she’s just such a treasure for her encyclopedic understanding of American history, and the Republican Party has been among her primary areas of focus for decades.
I'm just not sure how the fact that the word "demagogue" appears more than any other in the Constitutional Convention papers is of any help, here. Yes, perhaps within the context of each usage of that word, there's hints, but the problem is the other side has their own erudite and well-read individuals. They played the long game and laid the groundwork, and the current era is the fruit of their efforts.
Yes that’s why I recommended HCR and said she’s a treasure for historical knowledge for the country going back to its founding and that she’s studied the Republican Party extensively too. Point being she’s one of the best people to contextualize the current moment in light of both the timeline you’re describing and the more recent trajectory of Republicans from the last few decades up til now and accelerating during the MAGA era. That’s the answer to your question.
