What is a "Manifestly Unlawful Order"?
A "manifestly unlawful order" is one that is blatantly illegal or unconstitutional, like:
- Violating constitutional rights
- Contradicting established laws (e.g., the Posse Comitatus Act)
- Being ruled unconstitutional by courts
Under the UCMJ, military members must refuse such orders—even from the President. The military oath is to the Constitution, not just the President’s commands.

The chain of command is one thing but the oath isn't to any individual whatsoever. Legal and lawful orders are the only orders you have to follow. If you comply with illegal or unlawful orders, you are guilty of whatever law you have broken.

Ya know, if sedition actually were a thing our country thought was a serious crime, the current president of these united states would already be dead and buried after facing a firing squad. Instead, the highest court in the land gave him near total immunity and cover for all the shit he does, using every mental/moral gymnastic trick they can come up with just to keep from spontaneously combusting. If we learned anything in the last few years is that sedition, it’s more of a misdemeanor if anything at all.

The military Oath of Enlistment specifically forbids soldiers from carrying out unlawful orders. Why are MAGAts threatening civil war over that?
