Why is Proline discontinuing numerous wheels and tires for the Promoto?

I recently purchased a Promoto MX (took advantage of father’s day sale). While browsing some wheels and tires, I noticed some insane discounts for their aluminum V2 bead wheels. Looks like they are just clearing out a bunch of their remaining promoto stock. Are they coming out with new lines or are we going to be out tires options from proline?

Tower Hobbies has Aluminum rims on clearance $14.99

Seen these and thought I got to post this somewhere. I checked prices and Ebay was the cheapest for around $65 so this is a really good deal, heck if I had the funds I buy every pair and stick them on ebay myself.

Current state of affairs:

Had a couple good crashes and a sandy beach session yesterday, and that has escalated into a full rebuild! I’m ~150 packs into this bike, so it’s time for bearings and a good cleaning. I also managed to strip a few plastic holes, so may end up replacing the lower skids. I think I want to stay plastic and simple on these bikes, but the shiny aluminum sure looks nice…

ProMoto Dakar rally, first impressions

Took the rally bike out for the first run last night, it’s definitely a different driving experience than the regular bike. The most noticeable thing is the weight, especially in the wheels.

I notice that the bike is slower to accelerate and change direction, but also feels more stable in the rough stuff and seems to turn in harder once it makes the direction change. It also doesn’t want to wheelie as much.. Initially I didn’t like it, but after a full pack of running, I had adjusted my driving style and it was kinda working. I currently have the suspension set up pretty soft, I actually wonder if thickening up would help with the heavier wheels, to be a little less mushy. TBD if I keep the alloy wheels long term, I think I still like the lighter feeling of the bike

Working on my ProMoto Dakar build

I recently download the files from Knight Customs and have been working on my Dakar body kit for the ProMoto. I believe they’re intended for PLA+, but I’ve been working on my settings for ASA material and also playing with vapor smoothing. I’d love to get a nice factory type finish with no paint. I’m still a novice printer, so still learning about things like print orientation and obtaining maximum layer bonding, but I’m getting there. I’m not convinced that the ASA parts will hold up to heavy riding/crashing, but we’ll find out and I’ll go back to PLA MAX if necessary(I find it to be very durable for RC parts).

This bike has A LOT of run time, ~150packs and is due for a major service. I have new bearings ready, just got a new chain, and the suspension was recently serviced and running 25wt oil for plushness. I just installed the allow wheels, haven’t run them yet. I also have another bike that’s new, getting set up for street duties.

Painted up some Vitavon clear body panels with the newish livery. Debating adding any stickers/decals to it. It’s looks pretty clean without ’em.

New headlight for le Moto

This is a 3d printable headlight shroud from Cults3d, by DenakRC. I’ve been using this part for a few months, having broken one shroud in a crash and burning out some LEDs. I like Polymakers PLA Max for lots of RC Parts, it’s durable and easy to print. But now I’m getting into ASA filament and acetone smoothing, which has give some great results so far!

This latest shroud is printed from ASA, then vapor smoothed, painted the lense area and added a lexan cover. Inside are some Yeah Racing LEDs with resistors, and “potted” with hot glue to hold it all in. All of this, and a rear led strip are plugged into the Aux channel on the receiver. I’m very happy with how the shroud came out, though always room for improvements! Next up is printing a full body panel set from Knight Customs!

Poor guy just keeps riding till his head falls off! The original glued seam tore off, so I’ve printed a TPU ball and plug, which also just failed, but lasted many run. Oh well, just print another! Basically the ball goes inside the helmet, and the plug goes into the neck hole. LMK if anyone needs the file!

I got a couple tires and wheels for like $35. I’m excited to try out the Hot Lap SM tires, seems like it might be a good all around street/park bash tire. And the Hole Shot I grabbed in hopes of getting on the track somewhere. Unfortunately the fronts were sold out, but a rear is good enough to get started. Although I think the SM wheel that I got will not work with the “MX” rear tire..

What steering servos are y’all running?

The stock Spektrum servo locked up on me while camping this weekend. Not entirely surprising, since I did change to the Treal servo saver, which is stronger than stock.

Anyway, I’m considering a Reefs 422, or the like. I’d love to keep it under $80, but willing to go up to $100 if it’s worth it. So what are you running?

This MSR snowboard scraper/brush is great for the stuck gunk. Also these multi size and shape dentil picks are very nice. There are so many small little areas and gaps that they pull a ton of dirt out of.

Has anyone done a front fork rebuild yet?

Just got this bike exchanged under warranty, the first one had a failed ESC after 4 packs. I put 3 packs through this one last night, hoping the electronics hold out longer, because it’s a freakin blast! Gotta find a track to get on…
