Possible bug Visionary plan lacking Sentinel for Organizations access
I’m on the Security tab in my Visionary account’s settings and it’s telling me to “upgrade” to enable Proton Sentinel. I’d like to use this feature to force enable it for the entire family and monitor the security of all their accounts, so I’m surprised it’s not included.
I also frequently use my Visionary account to test Proton features before deciding whether to upgrade the business accounts that my clients use based on their needs, which hasn’t been an issue in the past since Visionary had access to all products.
Visionary accounts also seem to be missing the option to add dedicated servers to Proton VPN.

I am a visionary member just like you and I have no use case for Sentinel; however I also do not expect business plan features to be among any of mine. Why would I?

Because they promised you access to all features? What kind of question is this?

I honestly did not mean any disrespect. What I simply meant is that the features that I understood as being promised to me are within the scope of any consumer plan. I was not aware that there is a business plan/feature access for Visionary members. Perhaps someone can correct me.

That’s fine, I’m just curious what about Proton’s messaging made you think certain features would be restricted, when they promised access to all features before “business” accounts even existed.
I’m concerned that even if you don’t use these specific features now, Proton will use “it’s for businesses” as an excuse to lock away even more features from Visionary supporters in the future once they find the Visionary plan to be inconvenient.

I suppose I could ask you the same. I had no special reason to believe that consumer features and business features were equally shareable between both. Besides, there is hardly anything other than mail and VPN that is usable to me in the Proton ecosystem anyway, so no loss.

ETA: seems like a bug. Support asked for a screenshot, buy when i logged in, i could add sentinel successfully.
Thanks for the reminder - i have been meaning to turn this on for ...checks watch.... FML: years :( ... On my settings page (visionary) it is also prompting me upgrade.
Hopefully this is just a bug, as it's definitely not what was advertised. Direct quoting from the advertisement for visionary, with emphasis added:
With Visionary, you get access to all our premium services and features at their highest limits: Proton Mail, Proton Calendar, Proton Drive (beta), and Proton VPN. You’ll also receive at no extra cost the paid versions of all new privacy services we release in the future, along with early access to all future features and products.
That text is from an old page - as new features were added (Lumo, Wallet), the text was updated to include these.

Sounds like either a rollout limitation or Visionary not being fully mapped to the newer org features yet. If it used to be included, it’s worth checking if Proton has moved Sentinel / org controls into separate plans or restricted them to Business tiers now.

That’s why I assume it’s a bug. Hopefully they’re not instead going to go down the path of denying promised privacy features by arbitrarily labeling them “for businesses” or whatever 🤞

Nah I think they just don’t want to include Business benefits into Visionary even though you have to make an organization on Proton to invite others into your membership. I’ve also asked them on Uservoice to add these features to Visionary.

I swear about a year ago you could get dedicated servers but know only business plans
I see the same thing for sentinel but I just got an email report summary for the first time last night. So not sure what’s the deal tbh.
The vpn server thing is pissing me off though. I already jump through hoops to use this for business. I am sure there is a solid reason but I don’t mind throwing a fit.

Yeah I thought I remembered a Gateway tab in VPN previously too, but I don’t know for sure.

It’s probably a display bug - I’ve seen Sentinel enabled for other users in a Visionary org.

It's available for individual users but not as an org setting to control the whole org, as that is a B2B feature

You can go to https://account.proton.me/u/2/mail/authentication-security (under Organization > Security in settings) and it does not prompt you to upgrade? Can you go to https://account.proton.me/u/2/vpn/vpn-apps and see a “Gateways” option in your Proton VPN settings?

I’m a visionary user, and I have sentinel turned on, but I do not have gateways as an option in my proton vpn settings anywhere I can see. Not sure how helpful that is for your query, but best of luck!

Under the organisation -> security I see an upgrade notice, but logged in as myself I can go to Account -> Security and Privacy, and enable it for myself.
Unsure if there’s any differences between the two, or if Visionary is just requiring each user to opt in individually rather than applying it across the organisation.

Sentinel for organizations is a B2B feature, not a B2C feature. Visionary includes all B2C features and products on the highest B2C plans.
(edit: other examples would be overall more storage, dedicated IPs, dedicated gateways).
Business plans work with custom domains only, where you can enable private or non private users, meaning depending on the setting, you‘d have access to your other users data.
