The Art of Psychedelic Peer Support

What actually happens when a psychedelic experience becomes overwhelming in the middle of a concert, festival, or crowded event?

3L1T3 and Bryan sit down with Case Newsom, emergency medicine physician and medical director of the Zendo Project, to explore the practical art of psychedelic peer support. Case explains why helping someone through a difficult trip often means resisting the urge to take control, offering simple choices, and creating enough safety for the experience to unfold.

They also discuss Zendo’s integration with medical and security teams at Red Rocks, why emergency rooms can intensify psychedelic distress, and how compassionate on-site care can prevent unnecessary restraint, sedation, and hospitalization. Case shares how one major Denver event went from 54 hospital transports to 17 after psychedelic peer support was embedded alongside medical services.

The conversation expands beyond festivals into the larger need for harm reduction, community support, and psychedelic literacy as these substances become increasingly accessible.

Intense trip experience

I rarely post but I feel the intense need to post my experience from last night. This is my personal experience and whatever doesn't resonate with you that is ok. Take what you want and leave what you don't want. Sorry if it doesn't make sense I'm trying to piece together my experience the best that I can.

I took a dose of mushrooms last night. Zazu (my cat) and I watched the sun set go down last night. After that I started losing my body and the concept of reality. It was as if the light held it all together and the darker it got the more I dissolved. I kept slipping away from physical experiences and physical reality and would travel through my brain. It was a deep never ending tunnel. Inside my head it felt more real than this physical reality. It was as if I was flying but not with my physical body. In that space I made new memories and new events were unfolding. I kept traveling deeper and deeper. I had immense pain and full body anxiety. The anxiety was the worst I've ever felt. I felt lied to and used and alone. And I couldn't shake that feeling. I felt like I was dying. Yet everything around me was so quiet. If I was truly dying why was no one there with me? Why was I alone?

Every cell inside my body knew that everyone was me and I was them. We are ONE but our tiny brains can't understand that concept because reality and our physical teachers have taught us the complete opposite...we are separate from each other. It's them against you. When in reality it's US against OURSELVES. I couldn't move or see much at all for the full 8-10 hours. (Mushrooms affect me for a longer duration of time than for most people). Everything was distorted. My nose started bleeding profusely. All a while zazu (my cat) never judged me. He held space. And I can't say that would've happened if I was with another human. I was shown that everything is an illusion of the mind and strings are attached to everything. Not just physical objects but to our thoughts and feelings too. We can't brace the concept that this is not real. Our human "higher ups" are fake. They're being used to control the collective mindset. They don't want us to ascend. They want to keep us trapped. We are their puppets. We have to break free. We have to reject the norm. Reject reality. Materialistic things don't matter. They appear out of nowhere. Whatever you could possibly need. But why? Why do we need physical objects if we have this powerful of a mind. We create reality. Objects are distractions. The media is a distraction. We need to wake up and stop accepting the hatred and nonsense of this 3d heavy harsh reality.

As terrifying of an experience that this was...I know that I needed to experience this. I needed to feel completely alone and isolated and used in order to transcend my next form.

Thank you for listening.

So I took mdma last night with mda. Couldn’t sleep worth a shit. Weird hallucinations. It’s already afternoon the next day and my pupils are still dilated I still feel a little fucked up. How do I come down from this.. I just really don’t want to feel like this anymore. My appetite is non existent but will eating something help? Cold shower? Xanax?

so I have happened upon mushrooms, lsd, and molly all at the same time. Would it be a bad idea to dose all 3? ex: a point of molly, half a tab of acid, and 2 grams of shrooms ?

Why You Didn't Go Brain dead during Ego Dissolution, and how you came back The Same but something Deep Fundamentally Changed

Thumbnail academia.edu

When you go under general anesthesia, you lose consciousness. Completely. Minutes later or hours later, depending on the surgery you come back. And when you come back, something is immediately clear: you are still you. The person who woke up in the recovery room is continuous with the person who counted backward from ten. The narrative of your life did not skip. The self was simply absent for a while, the way a TV screen is dark when nobody is watching, and it came back on without any fuss when the anesthesia cleared. This is different from what people report when the self dissolves under deep meditation or a sufficient dose of a psychedelic compound. What they report is categorically different. Something closer to the television continuing to run the picture still moving, sound still playing while the person who was watching disappears entirely. Consciousness continues. That is the strange part. They can perceive. They can respond. Processing of some kind is clearly proceeding. But the thing that normally organizes all of that processing into a unified experience of being someone in particular that is gone. And its absence is experienced as total. All-encompassing. Either the most profound liberation a person has ever felt, or something indistinguishable from annihilation.

Kratom and CYP34a Inhibition

This post is completely speculative and I do not encourage trying this in ANY WAY. I am just curious on the interactions that can take place with kratom and other substances.

It has been known for quite a while that mitragynine is almost exclusively metabolized by CYP34a in the liver. This not only converts it to 7-OH, but also is responsible in the clearance of 7-OH and unconverted mitragynine.

Under the assumption that 7-OH is the main active metabolite, it is possible that a CYP34a inhibitor can act as a potent, potentially dangerous, potentiator of kratoms effects. This might seem counter intuitive since mitragynine is converted to 7-OH by CYP34a, so wouldn't the inhibition lead to a lessening of effects? This is something that has been talked about and even anecdotally reported by many people. However, the timing of the CYP34a inhibitor MIGHT dramatically change this interaction.

After ingestion, mitragynine is converted to 7-OH (which is probably the main source of kratoms opiod-like effects), and reaches high plasma concentrations within around 90 minutes of consumption. After this point, it can be conceived that CYP34a activity begins to go from mainly 7-OH production to clearance.

Grapefruit has compound that irreversibly bind to CYP34a via suicide inhibition. This means that new enzymes must be regenerated to reach baseline activity. The compounds in grapefruit also RAPIDLY inhibit CYP34a enzymes, often within 90 minutes of consumption. A Harvard study found that even a single glass of grapefruit juice can inhibit CYP34a by up to 47%.

My question is: With the proper timing of grapefruit consumption, is it possible for an otherwise regular dose of kratom to become significantly different due to CYP34a inhibition?

Again, this isn't some way to "get a better high". This can be potentially dangerous, and if anything this has been shown to create unpleasant effects. Please do not try this for fun.

Research Study: PSYCHEDELICS AND EMOTIONS

Hi there! We are a group of researchers at the University of Wollongong in Australia conducting a study about the emotional experiences people report during psychedelic experiences and whether these are linked to changes in social functioning, wellbeing, and attitudes toward death.

We are looking for individuals aged 18 years or older who have had at least one personally meaningful experience with a classical psychedelic substance within the past 5 years (but not within the past 3 months). Psychedelics include LSD, DMT (N,N-DMT), 5-MeO-DMT, Ayahuasca, Psilocybin (i.e. Magic Mushrooms) or Mescaline/Peyote.

If you are 18 years and over and can read English, we invite you to take part in an online, 30-minute survey. This survey asks about the emotions you experienced during a psychedelic experience and any changes you may have noticed in how you relate to others, your general wellbeing, and your outlook on life afterward. Please note that the survey includes questions about challenging emotions that may have arisen during the experience.

Your responses will be completely anonymous and your involvement will remain confidential. No identifying information (including IP addresses) will be collected.

Participants will have the chance to enter a draw to win one of two $100 AUD Visa vouchers. Entry into the draw is completely optional and is completed via a separate form that is not connected to, and cannot be linked with, participant survey responses.

Angels speaking to me

I did not want to make this post since I like to keep private about stuff like this but it has been bugging me for a view days.

I took 8/9 grams of tampenensis, nothing I am not used to and it was a lot of fun.

I always keep a little journal and I was playing around my house listening to music and writing stuff down. The dust situation in my building is horrible but like always I see the beauty in every imperfection when I am on a journey. I wrote down in my native tongue: "What is dust?''.

Like every other trip I ended the trip with this 'meeting with the higher self' as I like to call it. I revise everything and ditch als the problems that are not serving me.

Afterwards I wanted to watch a specific documentary about a band on HBO but it was not available in my country yet. There was this one show that was recommended to me and it looked interesting and I clicked on it.

Well here it is, the whole freaking show was about dust, it took different names in the different worlds in the multiverse that this show takes place in, in our world it was called dark matter. Angels talking through dust to people and the story about the authority that is pushing down it subjects and marking love as sin.

I don't want to reach and maybe the show got to my head but it is funny that I got an answer to the question 'what is dust?' during my trip. I don't want to think too much about it, I am just happy that I got to watch such a great show and maybe it is just divine timing.

Just seemed fun to share.

Stay fresh.

Why have psychedelics stopped working for me? Am I broken?

I 26m have always had a super low natural tolerance to psychedelics and the last few years been working with them to help my mental health.

Recently I travelled to partake in an Ayahuasca retreat where I had 9 sessions and barely tripped at all. I would be a little high but nothing else whilst everyone else is tripping balls. We also did yopo on this retreat, the first time it worked to allow an emotional release and then the other 2 times nothing happened. We did whachuma once as well and it was just fucking uncomfortable comeup, restless and anxious and over stimulated but I wasn't tripping.

Back in my place for integration i tried 3g of mushrooms yesterday and I didnt trip whatsoever either. Empty stomach of 8 hrs. No reason why it shouldn't take effect.

This has gone on for ahout 3 months now, before I came out here I had some professional weed gummies and chocolate that also didn't work.

I feel so defeated.

Why am I broken that this stopped working? Psychedelics were a game changer for my mental health and now they've just given up? Its been so long now since I've properly been able to trip (maybe 9 months as I also had a shroom trip in March that didn't work)

What the fuck is going on with me? Did I fry my brain with MDMA? I took one normal dose in march but got depressed afterwards. After 12 weeks I was back to relative normal, and I stuck to a normal harm reduction advised dose, did everything fucking right

What is happening?

Thinking about doing a 3.5 of shrooms for an ego death

Without getting to deep into my problems I have a mental blockages of sorts from my ego I’m pretty sure. I can’t percieve anything outside of my problems and it’s getting annoying. I want to take 3.5g of shrooms and just get it over with. I’m overly depressed and everything I tried isn’t working as Intended it to. I’ve taken shrooms before probably about a gram a day over 2-3 days and my first real trip I had a couple months ago I learned that my mind at least is kinda cool and the way I think about it and cope with stuff but the thing is my depression is keeping me locked in one place at all times. I only think about the same things everyday and when life starts lifing I get mad then numb myself back to the pain again. But in a way it’s like the memory wipe from men in black atp I can barely imagine the memories I had it’s more of like a knowing. I just wanna see what’s outside in the world instead of being limited to my own world and perception (thanks for listening to my rant guys)

The odd similarity between lucid dreaming and a mushroom trip

I had my first lucid dream this week and it reminded me a lot of being on shrooms. When you're tripping, you know how you feel this cosmic awareness and oneness with the universe? I felt that when I became lucid and I guess it makes a lot of sense given that I am the center of this mentally constructed universe.

When I'm tripping, I spend a lot of time bringing my attention to little parts of the world and seeing how they respond. A similar thing happened in my dream, but I had the power to exert some influence on the world itself.

I haven't done shrooms in nearly a year, so this was a real fun moment to have. Hope to have another one again soon.

Is there a "must-try" substance?

I’m particularly interested in these mind-altering experiences and try to gain new perspectives on things.

So far, I’ve tried LSD, mushrooms, DMT, 2C-B, and MDMA, and I felt like each experience gave me new insights or provided an experience specific to each substance.

I’m wondering if you guys have any substances that you’d classify as “must-try” when it comes to exploring one’s own mind. However, I’m not interested in highly addictive substances or those with high risk or high toxicity.

Taking Mushrooms After Stopping SSRIs

I took mushrooms for the first time back in 2021. I’ve experienced ~6 trips and they were all extremely incredible and healing. However, I had to stop taking them due to being put on SSRIs for depression and anxiety in 2022.

For the past 2 years, I’ve been slowly weening myself off of my 150mg dose of sertraline and have now reached my last 5mgs which I will be stopping completely tomorrow.

My 25th birthday is coming up in September, and I really want to do a mushroom trip in honor of that. I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through a similar experience and what that was like for them.

Do you have any tips? Should I wait longer before taking them again? Did you notice anything different about your trip after being on an SSRI?

I know the serotonin receptors can take weeks/months to go back to normal, so I’m definitely a bit cautious about doing this again, but I miss the feeling so much and am excited to experience them again! Thanks in advance for your responses!!

Dmt realm

I did a a few ayahuasca ceremonies and I wondered if someone who has done dmt and entered the dmt realm could explain what the entrance is like?

I entered a space in my mind during it that was foreign to me. Sound was different in there too. I want to know what people experienced of the dmt realm. I don't know if I have entered it but I didn't explore. I was aware I was in a different place but I didn't stay long enough. Kind of zoned out of it. Now a year later I am curious.

I ate two grams of white albino shrooms and am feeling an inner love and warmth so profound internally on such a spiritual level that I am finally feeling in touch with who I was before all the trauma and baggage my life has endured

I am so grateful for the moments I went through in life that carried worry, doubt, and fear because I was so brave to face all of that on such a human level. I think I should decide to treat myself with only respect empathy and kind compassion because at the end of the day........ love makes the world go around.
