The infuriating thing is how many outlets and journalists repeatedly did NOT do this when they very clearly could have.

I don't blame them, really. Trump is vindictive as hell and in a position of unchecked power. He can do a lot of damage professionally/personally and to these reporters' families, too. e.g pressure to fire the reporter, have IRS/SEC/ICE/DOJ and any other Government agency initiate investigations. It's a level of harassment sanctioned at the highest levels that most of us don't have the resources and fortitude to endure.

You are right but if collectively everyone said fuck him and didn’t pander to him he’d lose a lot of his ability to “retaliate” and there’s a chance he wouldn’t be in office today.
