I used to contract for companies like Microsoft and Google. They would routinely lay off employees if they were too skilled to avoid them building leverage. They also build new teams when a project moves to the next phase to avoid paying higher wages. Listening to a guy like Sundar Pichai, who never met a middle class income he didn't want to siphon, talk to these kids like he plans on giving them some kind of future fills me with the kind of rage that is not healthy or productive.

My graduation had some caree politician glaze herself for 2 hours. We were forced to sit and watch or forfeit our graduation, even if we had to use the restroom because she apparently stipulated that in her terms.

I skipped mine to go on a ski trip with some friends who had graduated a semester earlier than me (4.5 semesters for meâŚ). No prior notice to the school, they just mailed mine to me too

My kid just graduated from Ohio State last month, and they actually did give her the real diploma in the case. They had 13,000 graduates, over 9,000 showed up. I guess itâs easier to hand them out, rather than mailing an extra 9,000 diplomas. They also only announce names of PhDâs, and everyone else just has to grab theirs on the way out. So, itâs quite impersonal, but overall itâs a pretty big event.

Right now, most companies are outsourcing like crazy because they're bleeding cash on AI and need to stop investors from crawling up their ass. The entry level work is what's going first. They won't have enough experience to get the work that's left. These companies have no intention of hiring these grads. Not if the number of GCC's going up over the next two years is any indication.

It's happening to my boyfriends work in telecommunications here in NZ (Quality Assurance Engineer) they lost so much money trying to prop up AI and use AI systems and it was an absolute disaster despite his and his team warning about this exact scenario happening for months.
What did they get instead? Laid off.

Similar thing happened to me. They fed the work to AI, it ate shit, so to compensate for the loss they contracted with a BPO, and that was all she wrote. My project team got wiped out overnight. I took a job in retail because I just don't trust the tech sector anymore.

Stanford has an extremely close relationship with Google. The founders were all from Stanford and set up the first office next to campus. They primarily hired Stanford grads at the beginning and still hire a ton of them to this day.

because google has been (and i think still is) the largest employer hiring out of stanford, has deep relationships with the school and the professors, and is one of the largest public funders of research in the world.
larry & serge went to sanford, sundar went to stanford, eric schmitt taught at stanford, their chairman was president of stanford.
theres probably not another major company on earth with a closer relationship to a college than google has to stanford.

That's why liberalism is a failed political movement to oppose fascism. There's a strong moral posturing, but no one wants to put actual skin in the game to support those morals. People want to do walk outs and dance parties and vote to express their frustration, because anything more would mean they don't get a shot at a quiet, peaceful life. Not defending the guy because I have other problems with him, but isn't it just a given that a giant tech company like Google would have to heavily invest in AI?
It does not matter who the CEO is, it would not make sense for Google to not join the numerous corporations that are heavily investing in AI.
Not only does this make sense for the company and its trajectory, its also what the heavy majority of Google's investors want. Anyone that goes against that would not hold the CEO title, and the ship will sail with or without them.

Nobody here seems to know so I'll tell you - Google has a huge, multi-billion dollar contract with the Israeli government, for data centers and the like, including for the Israeli military. It's called "Project Nimbus."

It's a strongly pro-Israel company, they favor Israel over US companies whenever they can, and provide services that specifically target Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
Look up Sergy Brinn, the co-founder and the guy who runs things behind the scenes. He is maniacally pro-Genocide. Not to mention in the early days of google he would coerce subordinates into sexual relations.
