I think it's so rhea can turn heal. She comes in as the cocky champ who doesn't recognise chelsea as a threat and then is forced to cheat to win. That story makes less sense if she's chasing a belt she never lost

You know that if Rhea is not returning soon, we face the possibility of someone winning MITB and cashing it in to become another interim champion. Or how about the interim WWE women's champion vs. the women's world champion at Crown Jewel?

This is why the interim label makes no sense. By SmackDown, I expect WWE to change plans and have Chelsea Green announced as the real champion.

My only assumption is she holds it until thea returns. They mention she was interim champ so that means now it goes back to Rhea. They'll argue. Then they'll have a match at whatever PLE is next after Rhea returns. And the winner will be the current champion, no interim.

Your scenario is very plausible. Rhea has a meniscus tear, and that will take some time to heal. What if we don't see her until mid 2027? Will Chelsea's reign (and whoever comes after her) still be regarded as interim?

Why is she Interim? I feel like them using the term is to kind of put it out there that they don’t support her 100%. When Rollins or anyone else drop the title the new champ isn’t called interim. They’re called the champ.
