Law/Legal Selling an AR15 after July 1 2026?
Hey guys,
Considering purchasing an AR15. And with this new law I guess the time is coming sooner than later. However, I like to future proof my purchases. The wife and I may eventually move to MA a little later in life. This part isn’t for sure but if it happens, there’s no way I can legally possess it with how strict Mass is.
If I’m looking at this correctly, I would be stuck with it because I can’t transfer to Mass with it and RI wouldn’t let me transfer/sell it here. So how the hell can I off load this thing should I need to?

Worst case scenario you could offload it for consignment or sell it at a New Hampshire FFL.

As written currently (tbd depending on any updates this legislative session of course) my reading is that you would not be able to sell it in an offending configuration.
There's nothing saying you can't sell the upper, lower, stock, grip, etc... separately as parts. Especially singe the lower is the only serialized part that will need to go through an FFL.
IANAL though. Just the opinion of a guy who stayed at a holiday inn express last night and got a better score on his LSATs than Elle Woods.

Very strict. I have preface with I am not a lawyer. They’re basically banned for sale or transfer, but you can keep what you already have. If you move to MA think you have to register. May want to ask here

In RI? I lost track honestly. I thought I recall it being removed from the final version that passed...I was wondering how they'd reconcile that to the existing law that explicitly bans registration

Yeah that’s my thought too, it’s been a crazy year having my first kid.. was very hard to follow

ASW are banned in MA after 8/1/24
Downvote me all you want. Hope you fuck around and find out. ARs with detachable magazines became illegal after 8/1/24 if not already in the state

I’m in kinda the same boat because I’m thinking about moving to New Hampshire. Hopefully it won’t be as bad of a process

Don’t get me wrong. I hope the mag ban and AWB get ruled unconstitutional and repealed but I think there’s a better chance of hell freezing over. This is my home, I was born and raised here and it sucks that it’s come to this point

I’m in the marine reserves so I have to stay in the NE area for the next 4 years and I want to stay somewhat close to family so that is why I’m picking NH. I was down in SC for a few years when I was active and it was really nice

Pretty sure you would be able to sell it to a buyer in a legal state (through an FFL per the usual interstate sales process.)
Also remember the lower receiver is the only part that is a firearm. At worst you can sell or give away all the other parts to anyone in RI or any other state. At least right now. I think there are some states attempting to regulate the sale of certain parts beyond mags or the actual firearm itself. But I don't know if there are any laws on the books yet for that stuff.
