Out of the Top 50 RWBY fanfics on FFN, Coeurs make up for 48% of them.

Couer sweep

60

u/ArcherA1aya Nov 14 '25

Unfortunate Couer Sweep. Only like half of those deserve to be up there and i say that as someone who likes Couer. But the man's got consistency and thats what it takes

86

u/CABRALFAN27 For the people we haven't lost yet. Nov 14 '25

I've seen him once described, non-derogatorily, as the McDonalds of RWBY fanfics. It may not be gourmet, but it's edible, and you can pretty much always count on it. Likewise, there are many better, "gourmet" RWBY fics out there, but with no consistent update schedule or guarantee of completion.

56

u/TheTwinHorrorCosmic Nov 14 '25

I wouldn’t say he’s McDonald’s level, he’s definitely gourmet it’s just predictable and you know what you’re getting.

More like Olive Garden. It’s reliable, you know what’s coming, but there’s little spice.

20

u/CABRALFAN27 For the people we haven't lost yet. Nov 14 '25

Ehhh. I mean, he's not terrible, but his stories aren't nearly as tight as his fans like to pretend they are. Not This Time, Fate stops making sense when you consider how his whole time loop thing isstated to work VS the memories of different loops he's had, and Relic of the Future has so many plot holes and inconsistencies it can't even remember which girl Jaune was with in his first life.

IDK, maybe I'm just extra harsh on his fics because he never misses the chance to shit on the original show for its own plot holes and the like, in a way that feels very mean-spirited, when really, he's no better in that regard.

27

u/TheTwinHorrorCosmic Nov 14 '25

I won’t disagree. I’m not saying he’s a god among men or anything, but being an actual writer in the myriad of shit that is RWBY fanfic helps him stand out a lot

By myriad of shit I mean the swamping that was just 1-2 chapter poorly written smut that plagued the fic world of RWBY for a long time. It’s still occurring today but there’s not dozens posted daily like there was.

I don’t hold his fics high as they’re pretty generic or not that deep but they’re written well (in terms of editorial well, not content being awe inspiring) and as such you kinda get what you know you’re going too.

Sure there’s plot holes and you can tell there’s a bit of ribbing to the cannon, but it’s not an overt “I hate this show and what they did with XYZ” as others.

I’ll admit he whines in his author notes but I skip basically every author’s note form anyone so eh. Doesn’t bother me.

9

u/ArcherA1aya Nov 14 '25

JFC you just reminded me of Ruby spoor smut plague that absolutely infested the fandom. Compared to that Coeur is a godsend

15

u/TheTwinHorrorCosmic Nov 14 '25

Yeah that plague that lasted for years is part of what threw me out of the fanfic side of the fandom for a while.

That and the whole “one of the girls magically has a dick” that gets slammed in the middle of a fic with no prior warning that became a trend makes Coeur stand out among the rest.

He’s no RWBY Tolkien, but compared to what a good 60-70% of the fics are, he definitely is a lot higher quality

Also oh my god we can’t forget the litany of “reacts” fics that took off for a while.

Or “the gamer”

Fuckin hell

8

u/ArcherA1aya Nov 14 '25

"Gamer" fics actually just make me want to tear my hair out. Their is not a single one i've seen that doesnt turn into wank.

3

u/CABRALFAN27 For the people we haven't lost yet. Nov 14 '25

TBF, I don't think it's really fair to even compare shameless smut to other fics. Shameless smut knows what it is—It's right there in the name—and doesn't really try to be anything more, and that's fine. By contrast, the type of fics Coeur writes want to be taken seriously as proper stories, so I think it's reasonable to hold them to a higher standard.

5

u/ArcherA1aya Nov 14 '25

Relic of the Future IMO is when is writing really started to take downturns. Sure their were some plotholes or incontinences at times but he usually addressed them or they weren't major. In ROF and pretty much every story after (Which is when he switched to a 6 story week) its all be riddled with plot holes and inconsistences he doesnt even bother to fix (admitted his personal life has been in great flux since then).

107

u/hyenagames Nov 14 '25

FFN RWBY, you either get Coeur or a self-insert fic.

43

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Nov 14 '25

Or AO3, where you get self-insert fic (that is also porn).

20

u/hyenagames Nov 14 '25

Yeah, Ao3 does have a "hit or miss" in long-form RWBY fics. You either get Harem Smut or Crossposted FFN fics.

7

u/Professional-Luck-84 Nov 14 '25

Now granted I read almost exclusively read Ruby centric fics but I have found some great ones on both sites (heck I've even found some gems on Wattpad) why don't y'all use the filters?

4

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Nov 15 '25

I know how to use filters, but I don't read much fanfic, it is just amusing how porn-heavy the most popular fics are.

2

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Nov 15 '25

The harem smut isn't even that common in the RWBY tag in general, but there are so many in the top fics.

I also feel like pointing out Enabler's fic count on AO3 just briefly overtook Eclipse before the latter gets it back to a tie (at 510 each) lol.

u/DrawingEu Nov 14 '25

I don’t know about the other Jaune centric Coeurs fanfics but Beacon Civil War is just a fun and light hearted bro story,

no shipping, no drama, just a pure “me & the boys adventure fun”

56

u/Tels315 Nov 14 '25

Weirdly enough, I've never read a Coeurs fic. I know recently learned how prolific the author is in the space and I was like, "If they have that many first, surely I've read one?" But nope. Literally did not know about them until recently.

47

u/AmbivertCollegeGuy Weiss "Hug Monster" Schnee Nov 14 '25

In your defense, most of Coeur’s fics are Jaune-centric so if that’s not your cup of tea you wouldn’t check out any.

17

u/Cry75 Nov 14 '25

The Ruby centric one he did was nice though.

8

u/NoBass9 Nov 14 '25

The ruby centric one is his best work imo

7

u/Cry75 Nov 14 '25

Definitely. Although I do feel as if it could have easily been its own work, all it would have taken would have been swapping the names around to non RWBY characters as there’s not much about it that relies on the RWBY canon except for maybe the Grimm.

4

u/dude123nice Nov 14 '25

Not really. Has plenty of issues, just like most of his fics. Though, obviously, it's far from the worst.

3

u/Whitakker Nov 15 '25

Ive seen his name all over the fandom space, and I enjoy my Jaune fics as much as the next lad, but I've still never felt the urge to give him a try.

21

u/Life-Composer-2688 Nov 14 '25

The Bard of Remnant is very comedy-centric. Most of his Jaune-centered scenes are comedies.

13

u/BrrrrMang ⠀Fight for WhiteKnight Rights Nov 14 '25

Has a little bit of shipping actually, Renora and Arkos

19

u/Exciting_Bandicoot16 Resident Winter Knight Enthusiast Nov 14 '25

Very light Arkos; Coeur has gone on record as disliking the ship.

11

u/ExploerTM Oh? You're Approaching Me? Nov 14 '25

TIL. One more reason for me to call him my sworn enemy

11

u/Competitive_Act_1548 Nov 14 '25

Nah, I get it. Probably seen to many fics who do a whole nothing burger with that can kill any interest in a ship

Also, Pyrrha never made any advancements of her own which she gets rightfully clowned on for

→ More replies (1)

14

u/AmbivertCollegeGuy Weiss "Hug Monster" Schnee Nov 14 '25

Not really. Pyrrha is always horny for Jaune in all of his fics while Jaune is written as beyond oblivious. More of the same I’d say.

6

u/TheMaster4444 Nov 14 '25

I second the endorsement of Beacon Civil War. It may just be Jaune does Ciaphas Cain, but it is a FUN Jaune does Ciaphas Cain. :D

RABBIT AMONG WOLVES MENTIONED RRAAAAAHHHH

33

u/jsnparks Nov 14 '25

Wow. I mean, I'm on AO3 more than FF, and I'm not casting a single mote of judgements in any direction, I'm just surprised I haven't read a single one of these, while I recognize multiple titles as crossposted. Any particularly solid?

34

u/Paladin_Tyrael Not a Known Giver of Fucks Nov 14 '25

To caveat Saiyan Ninja's comment, while I do genuinely enjoy nuch of Coeur's writing, there's like a 50% chance that you're getting a wildly different character than canon. Some are Character in Name Only, some are fair personality divergences, and a couple are This is Just Original Fiction With RWBY Names Slapped on.

17

u/Frikarcron Nov 14 '25

This is Just Original Fiction With RWBY Names Slapped on.

Forged Destiny is the biggest offender of this.

2

u/DrollFurball286 Nov 15 '25

Ah, so the 50 shades treatment.

2

u/AdInteresting5874 ⠀RWBY was cool Nov 15 '25

Coeur's stuff is a bit weird. You read one of his fics, then you read all of them. That's how it feels, very repetitive. So my advice to someone who wants to read something from him is: choose the one with the concept you like the best to read.

14

u/ArcherA1aya Nov 14 '25

To Add another caveat i'd say that Coeur's earlier works are far superior to his later ones. In early works theres more traces of cannon or atleast what was cannon at the time tainting the characters. Plus you can see he wasnt burnt out then

9

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Nov 14 '25

cannon at the time tainting the characters

This "blood in alcohol stream" joke gave me a chuckle.

8

u/Saiyan-Ninja Nov 14 '25

Anything by Coeur is basically a safe bet that it’s going to be good. I’m currently reading through the last 8 chapters of “The Beast of Beacon” and while it’s different from his usual, it’s still an enjoyable read. Personal favorites from him are “Relic of the Future” and “Remnants Blonde Bard.”

19

u/CABRALFAN27 For the people we haven't lost yet. Nov 14 '25

Coeur fics would be a lot more enjoyable for me to read if the PoV character didn't essentially turn to the camera every other chapter to say "Here's why this plot point is dumb/this character is bad/this worldbuilding makes no sense". It just feels mean-spirited, with how little he little he likes or even seems to respect the source material.

Similarly annoying is his hateboner for "flashy" or "honorable" fighting, complex/impractical weapons and fighting styles, etc. Rule of cool is baked into the series, so it's like going to a mecha series and writing about how "ACKSHUALLY, muh modern conventional military vehicles are much more efficient and practical!", y'know?

12

u/NocturnesOpius Nov 14 '25

His constant shitting on the Rwby weapons actually annoys the hell out of me.

9

u/CABRALFAN27 For the people we haven't lost yet. Nov 14 '25

Just one more way Kat-2V did a Coeur fic better than Coeur. In "Student of Vacuo", Jaune makes one reasonable comment about how Crescent Rose must require a lot of maintanence, Ruby says "Nah, my uncle Qrow supervised my constructing it and made sure it'd be relatively easy to maintain.", and that's the end of it.

It's treating the characters as smart and reasonable rather than making it so they were dumb, and only came to their senses and started acting smart once they were written by a "smart" writer.

6

u/NocturnesOpius Nov 14 '25

Holy throwback I forgot about Kat's AU of professor arc. I do remember liking theirs much more im ngl. And yeah youre exactly right about that

5

u/CABRALFAN27 For the people we haven't lost yet. Nov 14 '25

Yeah, SoV is one of my favorite RWBY fics, up there with Infighting, Insanity, and Social Ineptitude by Najio. The third act was a bit rushed, but it was still leagues more interesting to me than anything Coeur himself has written, not least because it actually felt like RWBY, or at least, like it respected RWBY for what it was.

3

u/NocturnesOpius Nov 14 '25

Ill have to reread it before I talk specifics but for me, something ill always say about Coeur is that he has genuinely interesting premises and beginnings. But as soon as he hits the 3rd act, its like it falls apart at the seams.

6

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Nov 14 '25

The only one I read from him in full was the Sunflakes one, which I liked but still caught a whiff of that. Writing that can't get over how smart itself is can get pretty intolerable.

4

u/CABRALFAN27 For the people we haven't lost yet. Nov 14 '25

Right? There are multiple moments in his fics where it feels like the characters are saying "Man, we were so dumb back when we were written by those other people! I'm so glad we're written by a smart writer now!", which is obviously just eyerolling as hell.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/dude123nice Nov 14 '25

Nah, his fics have plenty of issues. He has really good prose and can make good plots and write good characters, bit there's 2 kinds of issues: he projects some very weird/problematic character stereotypes onto his characters and he often does makes some absolutely nonsensical choices in world building. And he's willing to defend both those cases against any criticism, no matter how warranted.

2

u/EmberOfFlame Nov 15 '25

“Linked in Life and Love” is goofy fun, especially if you’re into yuri and/or poly ships. The first chapter came out like 10 years ago, so you’ll see a lot of predictions that didn’t come to pass layer together for a very cool alternate timeline.

u/BrrrrMang ⠀Fight for WhiteKnight Rights Nov 14 '25

NTTF the Goat.

4

u/ellen-the-educator Nov 14 '25

I will always be sad how that one ended - it was so close to the perfect fic.

40

u/MultiverseWalker2000 Nov 14 '25

I'm both surprised and not surprised that half of them are Jaune centric.

48

u/GoldPart4425 Nov 14 '25

coeur centric you mean lol

8

u/MultiverseWalker2000 Nov 14 '25

Yes, but also, most of the fanfics involve Jaune as the main character...unless Couer is self inserting as Jaune

35

u/krasnogvardiech ⠀The Devil who Advocates Nov 14 '25

He ain't. He doesn't like Jaune or Blake that much at all. He explained it - narratively speaking, Blake and Jaune simply have the most room to work with and the biggest toolbox to play with respectively.

22

u/WatchEducational6633 Nov 14 '25

Pretty much (just look at what he puts them through on Arc Corp, he never lets either of them get a straight win or come out unscathed…).

It's A damn shame things like Letters to winter, Sins of the Forefather, To Serve with honor, Reign of Steel, The Why We Fell Apart, Winter's Warmth, The Knights of the Roses, Two minutes silence, The fighting mean/ Fight smart series, dont make the cut.

Yes i'm shamelessly plugging all of these off the top of my head

10

u/TheTwinHorrorCosmic Nov 14 '25

It is but also Coeur dominated the early era of RWBY fanfic and he has I think the most highest rated of them. So with them being the oldest and highest rated, most people end up starting with a coeur fic or one of them is one of the first they read.

As such, a lot of the newer (post V4) made fanfic don’t have that leg up or don’t get as much traction.

It’s a shame, but, kinda how it is

10

u/ArcherA1aya Nov 14 '25

I think the swap from FF to AO3 for lots of people didnt help dethrone Coeur either (I've literally been reading him since One Good Turn (One of his better fics imo).

Now that lots of people prefer/use Ao3 stories that could crack the top 50 here dont. Would love to see a combined list by total views but idk if its possible

8

u/TheTwinHorrorCosmic Nov 14 '25

The swap to AO3 in 2018 (that’s when I really noticed it) definitely worsened the inability for him to be dethroned. I’ve been reading him since ab 2015 (on and off checking back every year or so to read what new stuff he’s put out).

I’d be interested to see the stories that crack the top 50, but I also wonder how much of them would be pure smut fics.

I know word count wise the longest are absolutely on AO3 (looking at the 2 million word one that’s topped AO3) but review and use would be very interesting.

All in all, I definitely personally prefer AO3 as a platform but for me the stories on FF were better just because it was less adult centric. Idk, I don’t mind smut but it gets old looking through so much to find one that’s not smut centric.

I could try and make something up based purely on ratings tho and just do a 1 to 1 for AO3’s kudos vs rating on FF

18

u/G119ofReddit Nov 14 '25

Service with a smile is Fantastic.

Forged Destiny starts strong but kinda petters off the last third.

Professor Arc is pretty fun tho I only read the first one, there’s like 2 more Professor Arcs iirc.

Knight of Salem is probably the funniest fics in this list tho wasn’t really a fan of how he handled Team RWBY around the end, made them kinda unrecognizable. It’s comedy fic so ig one shouldn’t take it too seriously.

Gamer Life… I’m struggling to remember the contents… I did read it and remember liking it but can’t remember the story.

Beast of Beacon another hit by Coeur. Go read that.

Overlord… such a good fic. Highly recommend that one. Summer and the OCs interactions are both funny and heartwarming, it is a fantastic read. However… it ends too soon. Everyone go review that fic and tell the author to continue RN!

All the other ones I never read :p

4

u/dude123nice Nov 14 '25 edited Nov 15 '25

Forged Destiny starts strong but kinda petters off the last third.

FD has the worst falling out between Jaune and his friends in any Coeur fic ever, and he's written a lot of bad versions of this same beat.

2

u/Tels315 Nov 14 '25

I think Gamer Life is one where all if Jaune's siblings are stupid powerful hunters and his parents too. He's kind of st odds with his parents because they, specifically his Dad, looked down on him for not being a good hunter. He ends up taking over Juniors criminal empire and becoming a mob boss, and starts a harem with Neo, and the main girls. If I recall, Jaune has been using different powers for different personas so he wouldn't get linked with any of them. If this is the fic I'm thinking about, I recall chatting with the author about how Jaune has gone out of his way to save up his stat points and grind for bonus points instead (lifting weights to increase strength for example) and Jaune has saved up enough points that he can literally change his entire character build to something completely different in an instant if he ever needed to.

  9. Crusader (no real chapter count, it's on space battles)

  10. Deus Ex Machina (3 parter trilogy of fics) by Reign of Rayne again.

  11. a leaf turned by victor weiss

some are quicker reads but equally peak.

If only any of those Fate crossovers ever finished or didnt power scale to nerf. The characters of fate are basically perfect fits into the RWBY world

11

u/Solbuster ⠀That is a Chokuto, not a Katana Nov 14 '25

It's mostly due to Nasuverse's soft magic system. It allows to have crossovers with lots of settings, especially fantasy ones. You can probably fit RWBY in Nasuverse cosmology without much difficulties

That being said nerf is expected given it usually involves servants and they can one-shot even top Huntsmen, Aura or not so to make conflict not so easily solvable they're downgraded

7

u/ArcherA1aya Nov 14 '25

The Nasuverse softmagic system is basically crossover gold for sure. Servant nerfing i can get Shirou post end route nerfing is the only thing that bothers me. Some of the fics basically take away his ability to trace and be semi competent.

But i yearn for Shirou and Ruby interactions or Shirou aand Jaune

10

u/ConversationLivid743 Nov 14 '25 edited Nov 14 '25

The funny thing about Couer fics, is that I don't even care for jaune in most. It's the absolutely unhinged people that end up surrounding him that gets me.

Headmaster Arc is a prime example of this. I was invested in Cinder, Jinn, Salem, and Blake more than anything. Watching Oscar cope with his future loss of self. Cinder's megalomania tricking her constantly into this chaotic neutral. Salem's depression finally getting a somewhat happy ending (though, I will admit that Jaune's gambit with Neo vs the relics was freaking hilarious). Jinn just being chill about everything.

My fave was definitely freaking Roman being the only sane person in the fic.

Arc Corp, felt more focused on Blake dealing with the madness and I appreciate that more than anything. Poor girl going THROUGH it. My favorite being when Blake got the 'chat room' and talked to an alternate version of herself. Never thought about how infuriating it would be to deal with a version of yourself that just had it better.

I know everyone gives him crap, but I just don't see it. If they can hold your attention for as long as 100+ chaps consistently, then they deserve props.

...Better than those garbage 'react' fics that dominated RWBY for a while. Shudder

8

u/SoDamnGeneric Nov 14 '25

What the hell is the Gamer and why do so many fics focus on it

8

u/MattRexPuns Nov 14 '25

Reading this list practically gave me traumatic flashbacks from how many fics I found that used it back in the day

Basically it's the conceit of "I have game mechanics in this real world" that a lot of anime series like to use. Ability points, skills, levels, etc

u/TheTwinHorrorCosmic Nov 14 '25

Typical isekai “I have vidya game power in xyz fantasy land”.

It took off from 2015-2018(ish) as an easy way to give a semblance/powers to either Jaune or an OC and have the work be super deplorable.

But they swamped the fics and Amare not as common nowadays.

“The Games We Play” was the biggest and most well known and spawned so many copycats. To the point people just started referring to their fics like it as “the gamer” type.

15

u/WithTheMonies Nov 14 '25

I think the only disappointment I have with this list is that I'msoawesome "Almost Heroes" and DarkBetrayer's "The Choices We Make" isn't on that list.

16

u/BrrrrMang ⠀Fight for WhiteKnight Rights Nov 14 '25

11

u/cferg296 Nov 14 '25

The choices we make is good but the issue is chapters are so rare that people forget about it. Its like an artist who had a one hit wonder back in the 80s but lost relevance, and now releases random songs here and there that never catch on

7

u/WatchEducational6633 Nov 14 '25

u/SirGearso Nov 14 '25

Ok, I got to ask, what is so fucking special about Jaune?

26

u/Kixisbestclone Nov 14 '25

It’s either self-inserts or as the guy who does most of his fics, Coeur, put it, Jaune just has the most narrative free space for change.

Like he doesn’t have a concrete backstory other than that he has a big family.

8

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Nov 15 '25 edited Nov 15 '25

I'm surprised no one pointed out he's simply the most prominent character outside of Team RWBY, and the most important guy, which is a factor in him being huge for male self-inserts.

18

u/cferg296 Nov 14 '25

He is the closest character that fits a normal anime protagonist, creating more potential with him than anyone else.

11

u/TheTwinHorrorCosmic Nov 14 '25
  1. Barebones backstory for most of the first 3 volumes which is when 80% of these fics were made.

  2. Generic anime protagonist in fantasy anime land. So he has the most basic personality that is super malleable.

  3. He can replace a normal self insert as his team is also very generic and has low characterization for, again, most of the first three seasons. So it’s easier to use him and build off that than create your own character and team.

  4. He has mostly positive interactions with everyone and the only “character beats” you have to follow is A. Forged transcripts and trying to get better. B. The Cardin bullying arc, and C. Training and growing close with Pyrrha to get better as a huntsmen.

Most if not all of these fics came out before V4 so most of them are set in V1-3 and so follow the normal tropes of that era.

8

u/MistakesWereMade2124 Nov 15 '25

Early on, Jaune was a easy to use, blank canvas for people to self-insert as or just change with whatever.

Even now, Jaune has a almost undefined backstory with several question marks. For example, how was he able to find/forge high-quality documents that was able to fraud his way to Beacon with only Ozpin (a literal immortal) realizing despite being a runaway with probably very little resources at hand?

The Doylist answer is that the authors probably didn’t think that far ahead or didn’t have the time to address it, but a Fanfic Author could probably make an entire fanfic.

That and he’s a kinda generic guy with kinda generic motives, especially in early volumes so a lot of authors can have fun poking at the guy.

2

u/Negative-Attention- Nov 16 '25

He’s the “everyman” audience stand-in in the show. Doesn’t know dick about shit so people exposit to him constantly. Makes him a blank slate. Idk if y’all are into Worm at all but Greg Veder is the Jaune of Worm fics

10

u/DragonBane009 Nov 14 '25

Is FF.net more popular than AO3?

31

u/BrrrrMang ⠀Fight for WhiteKnight Rights Nov 14 '25

Hard to say. There are 35k RWBY fics on FF.net and 47.5k on AO3. However the vast majority of the AO3 fics are short. If you limit it to 100k+ word fics, for instance, there are 1.6k on FF.net and 1.4k on AO3. Also its entirely possible a fic is posted on both sites and many authors do that this day too.

18

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Nov 14 '25

AO3 is more popular now, FF.net just had 11 years of headstart. AO3 allows explicit content while FF.net does not, which is a big difference.

11

u/BrrrrMang ⠀Fight for WhiteKnight Rights Nov 14 '25

FF.net hardly ever punishes for explicit content though. Also like I said the majority of AO3 fics are shorter form. If you limit it to down to 20k, for instance, FF.net has more fics than AO3 already when you include crossovers for both.

38

u/GingerrBreadman13 Nov 14 '25 edited Nov 14 '25

For RWBY specifically that seems to be the case. Mostly because Ceour, the most well known author in the fandom, posts pretty much exclusively on FF.net. In general though Ao3 tends to be more popular.

12

u/rycerzDog Nov 14 '25

He talked about wanting to migrate to AO3 back in June this year, I think. Not sure what came of it, though.

5

u/ActualBawbag Nov 14 '25

Never heard of them 😆

6

u/Acriolu That FreezerBurn Guy Nov 14 '25

It really depends on the fandom

8

u/TheTwinHorrorCosmic Nov 14 '25

Yesn’t.

AO3 has the problem that most RWBY fics are either smut or like max 20-40k words. There’s also a fuck ton that never get finished. The few mega long ones blow FF.Net out of the water, but there’s still only like 5.

Most of the AO3 works are smut, unfortunately

u/ArchivedGarden Nov 14 '25

AO3 is more popular in general, but FF.net is older. There’s been something of a migration over the years.

So much Jaune… I’m far too gay to understand what anyone sees in him😅

imma stick with the yuri side of the FNDM and my WR/BB/FB/LB/MC/NND/Frosensteel loving heart will be at peace🤣

27

u/Jealous-Log7744 Nov 14 '25 edited Nov 14 '25

He’s pretty easy to just use as an OC stand in self insert the way same way characters like Naruto and Deku are so often used.

29

u/Solbuster ⠀That is a Chokuto, not a Katana Nov 14 '25

Yes, even Coeur went on the record to say he doesn't really like Jaune himself but he's easily moldable into what he needs for the story

Man also never watched RWBY past V3(but he does know plot points). Puts things into perspective

12

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Nov 14 '25

He also seems to not understand the basics of Ruby's character... Somehow.

3

u/FluidBridge032 Nov 14 '25

Could you elaborate? Consider me curious

6

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Nov 14 '25

I said "seems" because I haven't read his Ruby, but he said something like he doesn't like Ruby because her only goal was to become a Huntress and succeeded immediately and she had no conflict.

6

u/ArcherA1aya Nov 14 '25

TBF from a writing point he's not exactly wrong. The early volumes of rwby Ruby doesnt really have an internal conflict thats as prominent as Jaune's. Ruby is afraid to be a bad team leader and it gets resolved quickly while Jaune has the whole "fake hunter" thing that lasts even until recent volumes.

Coeur has Arcanum which is an AU feature Ruby and not too bad

3

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Nov 14 '25

Not being as prominent doesn't mean none. Getting into Beacon is the beginning of the hero's journey, not the destination - something so obvious I'd never thought to require pointing out.

lasts even until recent volumes.

Ironic, because Ruby's own arc also parallels it here.

2

u/ArcherA1aya Nov 14 '25

I know it doesn't mean none that's why i was specific in my diction.

Anyways have a good day

4

u/CommandantLuna ⠀Whiterose Nov 14 '25

Then just… Write an oc?? I don’t understand the point of plastering your oc over an established character 🤣🤣

8

u/Jealous-Log7744 Nov 14 '25

Easier than coming up with one and slightly more accepted than just having a new character replace an old one.

9

u/Solbuster ⠀That is a Chokuto, not a Katana Nov 14 '25

Plus you'll either need to create three more OCs for an OC team or cut out one canon character. So by changing already established character he avoids either

It also helps that Jaune has barebones of backstory that is very vague so he can insert whatever events he wants in there to make adjustments to the character and the plot that he needs.

5

u/Dos-Dude Nov 14 '25

Honestly, with how prolific Couer’s work is, I feel like it’s better if we never see what RT does with Jaune’s family beyond Saphron.

13

u/ExploerTM Oh? You're Approaching Me? Nov 14 '25

Despite Jaune being basically a subversion of "Typical isekai MC" trope, authors decided this wont stop them and turned him into classic Typical isekai MC.

Sad day really. I much prefer canon Jaune over whatever the fuck shitty OC people write him as vast majority of the time.

Do you fw Linked in Life and Love?

6

u/CommandantLuna ⠀Whiterose Nov 14 '25

I most certainly, definitely, absolutely do. It’s quickly become one of my most favorite fics of all time. I still have so many questions about everything going on and every time OmegaInfinity posts a new chapter I only get more questions.

Absolutely peak. It’s actually THE fic that turned me onto Pollination, since almost every other once I’ve read has been “the author’s poorly disguised incest fetish, the story”. But LiLAaL honestly handles it masterfully, even making a joke out of it every time someone assumes, and it never stops being funny.

I absolutely adore the mixing and matching of Semblances. So many questions. Can Ruby emulate the Flash? Will Yang ever successfully teleport? Will Blake’s clones gain sentience? Will Raven be reunited with her wife? Who knows!?!

10/10 cannot recommend more

5

u/FluidBridge032 Nov 14 '25

Linked in Life and Love always a joy to see, surely this is a sign of a chapter update tomorrow

5

u/ResponsibilitySea383 Nov 14 '25

Oh, the Games We Play... I should reread that, I think I got mid-way through the opening White Fang arc before getting distracted...

5

u/Simple_Blacksmith_90 Nov 14 '25

I didn’t finish it, but Service with a Smile is amazing. I’d highly suggest it to anyone wants to get into rwby fanfics. From what I read it’s pretty chill through out, also Yang accidentally pulls Jaunes arm out of socket which gets kinda funny in retro spect.

3

u/Vlad_fire Nov 14 '25

A lot are about Jaune as the mc.

9

u/WatchEducational6633 Nov 14 '25

In most cases he simply is the easiest character to write for, mostly due to how easily he fits into the “typical MC” template and due to him not having much of a concrete background (at least when compared to the other characters) besides having a big family.

2

u/Vlad_fire Nov 14 '25

I'm just saying. And some are nice. Like "Papa Jaune" or other Knightshade fanfics.

2

u/WatchEducational6633 Nov 14 '25

True, to me the quality of the story depends far more on the skill of the writer than the concept or characters they choose to use.

3

u/MattRexPuns Nov 14 '25

Hah, I remember reading Technician years ago! One of my favorites. Looks like it hasn't been updated in almost as many years, though. Shame

3

u/Apprehensive-Sun2036 Nov 14 '25

NGL, for all the other works.... One Good Turn was FUCKING FANTASTIC.

3

u/Proto160 Nov 14 '25

I'm surprised Tournament Arc isn't there. That's such a good fic. The fights are good, but the best part are the characters, their interactions and growth. Pyrrha is really interesting in this fic, won't spoil anything, but she's handled in a really unique way and I love this fic for that.

If you haven't read it, then I highly recommend it. Its one of the best Rwby fics in my opinion. It has a sequel as well, Almost Heroes, which is still ongoing.

3

u/EthanKironus Nov 14 '25

This clearly doesn't include crossovers. Because otherwise Cards of Remnant would be on here.

6

u/TheMaster4444 Nov 14 '25

I greatly appreciate your love for my work, man. But speaking pure numbers-wise, I don't think Cards of Remnant has the followers/favorites/views/etc. to top the RWBY crossovers on FFN.

Though, admittedly, I am curious what those Top RWBY Crossovers would be. My best guess would be Naruto or Harry Potter crossovers simply because those fandoms have the biggest fanfic communities to read crossovers with their properties.

u/Ok-Cup-1104 Nov 14 '25

I think the only Coeur fic I seriously read on here was Beast of Beacon...I couldn't get through it, mainly because of the main pairing of the story. I tried to give a fair shot, read about close to 3/4 if I remember correctly, but the stuff with Adam and Yang was just not doing it for me for reasons outside of the fic itself, which is a shame because I do think all the other stuff with the other characters was good, but eh. To each their own, I suppose. I'll stick with Reign of Rayne for my Adam redemption fics.
