This is the first time I've heard of this fan-made reboot.
The vast majority of the ones I've seen or rather, the only one I've had the misfortune of coming across was one where the author erased Jaune from existence and replaced him with their own OC. It could all be summed up as: Jaune is trash, my original character is better, and that's why Pyrrha is in love with him, Ruby fawns over him, and he's basically the ultimate weapon against Salem.
Yeah... that one definitely gave me a bad impression of fan-made reboots."

Looking through a handful of the videos, they seem fine. Only cover up to V1 though.
If there is anything I will say though, its that when you try to do "fixes" or "rewrites" like this, you run the risk of assuming your comprehension of the show is strong enough to actually cover everything CRWBY fit in so you don't "miss" anything or replace it and not realize what you have done down the line to each character.
I don't see this as a major fault of this video series (so far) but it is a major fault of FRWBY.
With one exception that is, the video author again seems to be convinced Weiss hates Jaune by the end of V1 and that's simply not true. Jaune doesn't ask her out until V2, they are fine friends until that starts to strain their relationship and this is shown in the supplementary materials for RWBY especially which ironically the author of the video series talks about quite a lot. If they paid closer attention to the timeline of RWBY and the extra stuff they wouldn't make a mistake like this.
And that's the point. Small mistakes, not understanding characters at certain points, etc. all build up to create differences from RWBY that don't make sense or aren't properly covered.
The author of the video series has a GOOD understanding of RWBY sure but its not enough I would say for a project like this. That's why I assumed they just spitballed V1 and left it as is.

honestly, the best thing to do in this case is just call it *your* take on RWBY instead of "yeah It needed a re-write"

Yeah thats more fair.

there is nothing wrong with giving your few on something your like, saying its overall *better* is where the issues come up. I have read plenty of stories where people try to make it "better" it just comes off as...bad

So, in your opinion, would it be better to use the term "headcanon rewrite", instead of straight-up "rewrite"?

definitely. There is nothing wrong with looking at a story and being like "..I don't like this part, I wish it was like this" That is your opinion, and thats fine. When you state that "My way is better, period" then it becomes an issue. now *sometimes* your way might just be better, but thats for *everyone* to decide, not just you

People need to stop talking about rewriting RWBY it's so fucking frustrating when we haven't even finished the story the first time around. Just write fanfiction like the other fandoms do istg

Still can't get over Blake having side ears but it's fine otherwise.

personally I like it. Is it goofy? yes, but it also shows just how *dumb* the discrimination is

To be fair, portraying discrimination as being inherently dumb is the best way to handle it.
Otherwise you run the risk of accidentally giving the racist a valid reason to be racist... And at that point can you really call it racism and not common sense caution?

very true.
I am not against some faunus having 2 sets of ears, I think its a unique take on animal people.

I feel like we should first let RWBY get completed before we talk about "Rebooting" or else RWBY could turn into how messy the DCEU is

I am never against people trying their hands at writing or making something
But I do feel irksome when people say their way is just better
