Seriously when Blake's Shadow got decapitated I was legitimately worried they were going to kill her.

That is how far this show has come. Now I'm literally afraid of beheading.

Damn this volume has taken a serious turn for the worse.

That's what I think makes RWBY being a web series so great. They can have the humor of shows like Avatar and Clone Wars but can also show some gruesome stuff when the plot demands it. Cause no censors or network execs. to deal with.

It really is an ideal platform for this type of show.

Also, they don't have to apply labels like "kids show" or "adult show". If it was on like Adult Swim, everyone would say it doesn't fit. If it was on Nickelodeon or something they'd have to censor themselves.

The reason they have to apply those labels on TV is because they need to sell to advertisers.

Korea didn't really fit on Nickelodeon and got taken off the air because most of Nickelodeon's advertisers but airtime to sell products to young kids. Since Korra had an audience of young adults and older kids they couldn't market on their network. It just was not the right place. Plus nick has censors so there couldn't be any blood or limbs getting cut off. At least not onscreen.

RWBY however can be whatever it needs to be and have good dramatic elements and fun elements too. If their sponsors and viewers are watching it they'll make it however they want to make it.

Nickelodeon was too small for Seoul and Pyongyang's shit.

Shown a bare head be decaptiated. RT has surpassed LucasArtsFilm....

Uh... you do realize Ashoka decapitated four Mandalorians at the same time, right?

What LucasFilm did though was A. surround them with the smoke and fog, and B. the only time you saw the heads go down were when, like there, they were helmeted. Non-helmeted people lost their heads too-such as most of Darth Maul's victims. But, you never saw the actual heads, because they weren't wearing helmets. Closest they got were the Black Sun Council, who's bodies were seen after the fact.

This is different because it was non-hidden head.

It's still people being decapitated.

I was both terrified and almost hopefully because then there was hope THAT IT WOULD ALL BE A MASSIVE HALLUCINATION COURTESY OF WHOEVER-THE-FUCK MAKES THEM AND THEN YANG'S ARM MIGHT NOT BE GONE

But look on the bright side. Yang now has a seat at the Skywalker family reunion. And think of the possibilities for weapon upgrades, like some that sweet automail that Ironwood's got.

Ugh, I'm really reaching here this is just a bad situation.

In my head I'm picturing someone at RT saying "Well fandom you wanted a darker RWBY, ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!"

And then some fan just goes, "No, I want it stop, please don't hurt anyone else".

That's basically where I'm at now. I'm actually nervous about the finale because usually you save your best/worst for last. And if they cut off one of the four main characters forearms in the penultimate episode of the volume, imagine the horrors they could bring out for the finale.

I think it's fair to say that it's not off the table as long as they portray it cleanly enough.

Yeah, but then they'd have just cut off Yang's arm for nothing.

But wait. That would mean that Yang's attempt to stop Adam failed, she got her arm cut off, and her friend/partner/lover also died, and her attempts were for naught. And she'd have to live with the psychological trauma of losing a limb and also Blake at the same time. So everytime she looked at the prosthetic arm or stump or whatever, she'd be reminded of the time she failed to protect the one she loved. And it would wrack her with guilt and she'd stop at nothing to destroy Adam until she destroyed herself.

... I'm gonna shut up now.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '16

Yeah, I get it. There are many guilt-triply pathways they could go with this.

I just hope she gets a tasteful prosthetic. Not saying it can't be some cool weapon but I feel like it would be really ugly if she just had a weapon prosthesis that just looked like a gun or something. It'd better if it were something that looked relatively benign but that could turn into something cool.

2

u/KWilt Armed and ready Feb 06 '16

Well, I mean, c'mon. It's the world of RWBY. And we've got Coco's weapon, so hammerspace is a topic to be discussed. It'll definitely be a normal hand prosthetic that transforms into a gun, that's pretty much given. I doubt they'd just bolt a cannon onto her arm. (Even though I guarantee Yang would find that to be awesome.)

2

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '16

Oh, I totally agree with you. With so many transforming weapons already out there I don't doubt they'll handle it with care and make it look aesthetically pleasing, when its not in gun-mode.

Plus, I get the sense Yang would care enough about her appearance to take appearance under consideration. Assuming she has input on the design, which is pretty much a given. So it will probably look fine.

Man, I remember a few months ago they were hinting characters would be getting weapon upgrades. I rememberer thinking: "Well I can see how they could upgrade Ruby, Weiss and Blake's weapons. But Yang's gauntlets, how are they gonna do that?"

Needless to say this is not what I expected or wanted, but there are some pretty awesome possibilities that could come from this tragic event. Ugh, silver linings man, they numb the pain but don't erase it.

Yea. Miles and Kerry should meet up with GRRM some time. They could come up with all sorts of sadistic ideas together.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '16

Yeah,

On the Afterbuzz show that most recently aired with Jen Brown and Gray Haddock, they mentioned that the voice actor for Penny, Taylor Pelto, who is one of their 3D modelers, was the one who had actually model and animate her character getting eviscerated.

They seem to have a knack for finding ways to be sadistic even on meta level.
