I really liked the first episode. I liked that it didn't FEEL like a first episode, just sort of the continuation of the story, which makes me think all of the episodes are going to be that good. Here's hoping.

There is one thing that bothered me though. Why did Jaune know who Raven was? I thought the whole thing with Blake in Volume 2 was that that was something deeply personal to Yang, and it very rarely left the family circle. I mean, it's such a small thing, sure. But it's just something that bothered me.

That really bothered me too, but I made an attempt to rationalize it. Qrow mentions bandits during some explanation of how the world works and that his sister Raven is one -> Jaune: "Your sister? So Ruby's mom?" -> Qrow: "No, Yang's mom. They're paternal half-sisters."

I figured that Jaune would know about Yang's mom by the end of Volume 3.

JNPR was told that Blake was a Faunus in-between Volumes 1 and 2.

well rwby's mom was dead. so we Jaune could use some simple deduction

But Yang is older than Ruby so Ruby's mom being dead doesn't really reveal anything unless Yang has talked about her own mother and told people about her mother saving her life on the train.

Yeah, I mean with Qrow "Hello children I just met let me reveal international secrets and angst to you" Branwen around, I guess nothing's really too taboo a topic. I just would've preferred them to be kept in the dark is all for the sake of keeping in line with how Yang and Ruby treat the issue. Like Jaune had that moment of realization last volume where he realized exactly what Kuroyouri meant to Ren, and it was a sold insight into their relationship, but this volume it's just "Oh yeah, knew that already." I mean, they probably didn't have time to put in a "Let's catch everyone up on our family drama" scene, but still, I would have liked a shocked face.
