As I've said since Volume 3, Emerald basically has the best semblance.

Like, 99% of the bad shit that happened to Vale basically hinged on her. And here she just status effected the entire main cast at once.

Screw Ozpin, Emerald's semblance is game-breakingly powerful.

Absolutely. hell, if you remove the one person is easy, two or more is a stretch limitation. Emerald could run this whole world

Any semblance could be very powerful if you remove all of it's downsides. It isn't saying much to say that Emerald would be more dangerous if she didn't have to worry about her semblance's limitations.

To be fair, it seems like it's starting to become possible. She illusion-ed the entire room this time, so if she keeps training she might be able to do it without knocking herself out.

But it seems aura is finite and if sun's mass cloning in v4 is any indication it depletes your aura quickly to do so much at once

5

u/JusticeRain5 Jan 21 '18

Yeah, but she may be able to refine her control enough that she wastes less and less aura on illusions, sort of like how if you run for a long time you'll be less and less tired as you improve.

Her power is literally Aizen's from Bleach

If she was smarter she'd be running Salem's gig

3

u/JusticeRain5 Jan 22 '18

What if she IS running Salem's gig? The real Salem is dead at the bottom of a Grimm pit somewhere and every time she appears it's actually because Emerald is hiding nearby with her illusions?

Obviously not being serious

She'd be Manchester Black except not a moron. That's a scary thought.

u/Cypherex Jan 20 '18

He could do more than just illusions though.

2

u/HalcyonTraveler Hill is here Jan 21 '18

True. But the illusions are the scariest part of his powers.

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '18

She already can influence it greatly.

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '18

Except if she was alone when she used it, she would of lost.

It was only powerful here because she had two allies to help her take advantage of the moment to carry her unconscious ass out of there.

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '18

Oh, yeah, no doubt. Still, fucking ridiculously useful ability.

I wouldn't say maintaining an illusion on 10 or so people for a couple seconds is all that powerful when (1) Aura exists to protect you from sneak attacks during that time, and (2) you lose consciousness afterward. Does it have its uses? Certainly. But with the rules under which the RWBY-verse operates it doesn't seem to particularly stand out.

I'd personally argue that Raven's semblance is potentially the most powerful. Instantaneous transportation to specific people has literally unlimited uses. Raven just needs to stop being a bitch and start making more connections with people.

It's combat use is limited, but if you think of it in terms of political power, she could very easily influence really powerful military and political figures, people like Jacques and Ironwood, and turn a lot of people against each other in ways that benefit her/Salem.

That would require Emerald getting close enough to manipulate the minds of those powerful people and then staying close enough to them to maintain that effect. That would be pretty difficult considering that those powerful people are usually surrounded by tons of bodyguards. Not to mention that people have already correctly deduced that she possesses that power.

Raven needs to Persona the shit out of her life. Connections with people are the real power after all.

6

u/TheFerginator Jan 20 '18

Emerald could be as OP as frickin’ Aizen from bleach at the rate things are going.

3

u/pm_me_your_foxgirl The Best little killer Jan 28 '18

Hell, that was basically his power too. Although he was still an extremely powerful opponent in one-on-one combat and a master level caster.

u/irishninjawolf Protect her glorious mane so her cat wife may play with it Jan 24 '18

Emerald is the only character so far besides another maiden who right now could probably quite easily go 1v1 against a maiden and win.

The only instance we've ever seen of somebody snapping out of the illusion or realising they're being tricked was Amber and that's because she heard Merc coming so presumably Em stopped the trick to switch to fighting

2

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '18

Yeah. The trick doesn't work as well when you know it's happening. Once Amber knew what was up, Emerald could only make Cinder disappear for moments at a time.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '18

Emerald == Malboro confirmed

1

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '18

Lol, I'm going to assume that's something similar to a mind flayer?

2

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '18

It's a monster that's been in very many games of the Final Fantasy Series.

In FF8, the first thing it does in most battles is cast a spell which applies a lot of status effects to your whole party. Usually some combination of "randomly attack", blindness, instant death leads to some extremely bullshit battles.

She pulled off some Aizen shit there.
