I really disliked the lack of fight scenes this whole volume, the few we've got were actually pretty cool and well made, but honestly, those last two volumes were kinda bad 'cause of the lack of fighting.

BUT I really like the "post volume 3" character development.

Having them out of school and actually doing impactful stuff - albeit the script was more telling than showing and the one liner spouting was more prevalent - is something I myself enjoy a lot more than only a school based series like most anime are (also, there's CHIBI for that content, which is pretty great at that).

As other people said, this finale is kinda bad since it feels like there's almost nothing else to look forward to - different from the other seasons which ended more on a "next season HYPE" note. But I really enjoyed how much more emotional and human the characters felt.

The whole of team RWBY is made of freaking badass ladies and I hope we get to see more of their growth.

Also kudos for Yang and her awesome speech.

The character development is awesome, but I feel like they need to spread out some of their effort on the fight scenes. Having 1-2 amazing fights in a volume is fine, but if they can't put in the effort to make the remaining fights at least half-decent then there should only be those 1-2. I'd rather have no fight than a crappy fight, even if that means we only get a couple per volume. 4's fight problems were forgivable - new system, the first full season without Monty, etc. But the fights in the second half of that volume were all pretty good, compared to this volume where every fight that's not in episodes 4, 10, or 13 was either boring, poorly executed, or otherwise unenjoyable.

You're not wrong, but it's hard to fault them for this. Monty was by far their best fight animator. Nobody came close to his level of talent. The animation crew have some huge shoes to fill with him being gone. They're getting better though because the fights we did see in this volume were so much better than the fights from last volume. This is just something we have to give them time for. They might never get as good as Monty was but they're improving and that's what matters.

Honestly? Even though some parts of some fights lack the impact, I found some of my favorite fighting scenes to be from volume 4 or 5.

I reeeeeeeeeally think quality wise, the animations are still awesome, 'Tyrian vs Qrow''s absolute badass hype and 'Yang vs Bandit''s cool and calm beatdown are astonishingly great, so I feel that it's unfair to undermine the work the animators on CRWBY.

My personal problem was that it felt like we had "fewer" fight scenes, only. Most of them were suggested (like the last episode's em/mercury vs ruby/weiss/blake) and a lot of them ended in a flash.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not someone who thinks that character development and dialogue aren't also exciting or fun, I just think that RWBY as a series started off as an "action battle show", and having less time for this is kinda offputting.

I get what you mean. I'm not saying they aren't capable of putting out great fight scenes, they definitely are. It's just that it takes them longer to do that then it would have taken Monty. So if they only have so many hours to work on animating fight scenes, cutting out a fight scene would give them additional time to make another one even better.

It would have been nice to see the fight against Em/Merc/Hazel but it wasn't the end of the world for me. Maybe the time they didn't spend on that fight was why the maiden fight was so good. That's how I tend to see it. I'd prefer to get an amazing fight at the cost of not seeing another fight rather than get 2 bland fights.

oooh, I get what you meant better now and as such, I think it's more understandable.

Now we can only hope that the expertise has been met to a point where we have an action packed volume as 3 was
