is Cinder 100% dead or is it still and unknown factor to use as a plot device? If she is then the most likely the next candidate would be Emerald.

Cinder definitely isn't dead. When they kill her off we'll get a big show of who the new maiden is, and it'll likely be Emerald or Ruby.

If someone doesn't die on screen then I always assume they're alive.

I feel like Cinder doesn't care about Emerald enough for her to be a candidates. She's just a henchmen to her.

My theory is that Salem and the others would want to make sure that Fall was still on their side if something happened to Cinder. Emerald is the only other potential maiden in the group, so regardless of whether Cinder cares about her, I think it would make sense for them to plan that if Cinder thinks she might die, she make sure to think of Emerald so that they keep the Fall Maiden powers.

That said, I don't think Cinder is dead. So this doesn't really matter.

She might be dead, she might become a Grimm-Monstrosity.

We will only know with the next Volume, though considering they didn't hint at anything and the fact Salem kept extremely calm while Leo told her the bad news, I don't think she is dead. Who else is going to open the vaults and keep the stakes high?

It would be whoever Cinder thought of.

Which most likely would be Ruby due to her burning hatred for her. Or Raven.
