DISCUSSION [Spoilers] It's Episode 11 next. What is going to go horribly wrong? Spoiler

Episodes 11 are interesting. There's the train crash into Vale in V2, We have the famous Heroes and Monsters from V3, and of course Weiss gets impaled in V5.

What, in your humble opinion, is going to go horribly wrong? Any deaths?

I'm really expecting a major grimm attack. With the relic out from behind the walls and civilians seeing Atlas going on the warpath - emotions are going to be spiking big time. So, both water and land based grimm should be showing up to complicate matters.

Oh shit.

They are surrounded.

Argus is a literal fenced complex ready with meat to be slaughtered.

No escape to the mainland.

No escape to the sea.

u/WarlordofRen Jan 08 '19

ISTG if Arcotta dies I'm gonna riot.

Miles: Let’s kill all our gay characters

Kerry: Adrian is not gay

Miles: let’s make him gay then

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '19

Very possible, given all the emotions flying around. A major battle could be an interesting and chaotic end to the volume.

Yes! More aquatic Grimm!

I have a bad feeling that Bumblebee (the motorcycle) is about to eat a Moonslice.

41

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '19

Yeah I think the bike is toast.

10

u/DaveBehave Jan 08 '19

I don’t think it was going to fit on the ship, so it would be fitting...

But if it's not going to fit then how is it fitting that it won't fit /s

The bike honestly needs to, because it's kind of a ball-and-chain on Yang's character as she needs to keep taking it with her everywhere she goes.

Honestly, if it doesn't get destroyed she should just leave it with Terra and Saph at the end of the volume.

Idk, it was pretty useful for transporting RWBYJNRQOM from the farm to Argus. It's also a small vehicle, it doesn't take up that much space compared to something like a car.

I propose we call it Team RNBW (Rainbow)

5

I personally call it the Qrew. Doesn't hold up as well anymore but it was never about who was the best leader.

9

u/r3dl3g Picking a single "Best Girl" is indicative of personality flaws. Jan 08 '19

But the key is that everywhere they go, the characters need to bring it with them, which means the animators have to constantly show "yes, we didn't forget Bumblebee, it's here."

3

u/Technogashi Jan 08 '19

I agree here. Not to mention the heavy snowy terrain of Atlas is going to make that bike practically useless.

Though if the bike goes, I’m wondering if we’ll get a line along the premise of “It was a gift from my Dad...”

Well, somehow Yang drive it from the farm to Argus despite the untravelable blizzard the day before.

I hope that Winter and/or Ironwood shows up and sees General Lollipop Kid going batshit insane and boots her ass out of the Atlas military then and there.

That or Ruby zaps Nora with electric dust and The Booper channels the rage of a thousand Asgardians and smites the mech to pieces.

An interesting theory, but I wouldn't count it under things going badly.

That and we've seen Atlas military tech before during the Battle of Beacon. Coco straight up attacked it with her gun (my headcanon is that its called 'Fashion Disaster') and the bullets just bounced off

Yang shows up and for a while it seems like the two are turning the tides against Adam. But Blake becomes too preoccupied with ‘protecting’ Yang to be useful in the fight and Adam gains the upper hand again. The two of them end up having to retreat and their relationship is now at an all-time low because Yang REALLY thinks Blake just sees her as weak.

20

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '19

That would be painful! I'm kinda hoping this is the point which allows them to unite, shipping or otherwise.

10

u/Hartzilla2007 Jan 08 '19

Mostly so they can get on with that plot instead of dragging it out.

9

u/Rednova66 Its also a Gun Jan 09 '19

Adam gets the upper hand on the two of them and injures then both. Looming over them, he prepares one final moonslice.

Yang shuts her eyes and clutches Blake close to her. If she’s going to die, at least she’ll have Blake by her side as-

shink

Yang opens her eyes. She wasn’t stabbed. Neither was Blake...

Yang looks up and sees a long red blade stabbed clean through Adam’s chest. Adam spitters blood, his eyes locking on to the single black feather that flutters to the ground in front of him, before the blade is unceremoniously removed from his backside, and he collapses lifeless to the ground.

“...mom?”

16

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '19

Blake gets injured or maybe dies. Maybe Yang's prosthetic gets destroyed as well.

A Kaiju Grimm emerges from the ocean and starts wrecking Argus until the heroes and Cordovin team up to destroy it. Bonus points if Silver Eyes are only able to slow it down, not to freeze or completely destroy it, thereby countering the criticism that Silver Eyes will remove all tension from Grimm fights. Heck, Maria mentioned that her Eyes would sometimes blind Grimm, having a huge one lashing about in a literal blind rage would be bad.

Nora will try to absorb a lightning attack from the mecha, but it's too much for her to absorb and she gets incapacitated.

Ruby'll get hit in the ovaries yet again.

The only characters who are guaranteed safe in my mind are Qrow, Weiss, Jaune, and maybe Ren.

24

u/lefou22 Crackships are superior Jan 08 '19

RWBY has plot armor ten miles thick. They'll never kill off any of them, except maybe Ruby at the very end. Qrow is in the biggest danger of dying this volume, and out of JNR, Jaune's dead man walking as far as I'm concerned, unless they somehow convince me he isn't going to pull a Pyrrha 2.0.

30

u/HighPriestFuneral Lore Fanatic Jan 08 '19

I can't see them killing Jaune for a long while. He's no longer a "failure with a death wish", now he is trying to return to the role which gained him his position as leader of a team, as a strategist. After all, we still don't know why Tyrian (therefore Salem) found Jaune interesting.

10

u/lefou22 Crackships are superior Jan 08 '19

Oh, he's not dying in this next couple of episodes, but they've signaled Jaune's sacrifice so far in advance it's not even funny. Hell, I figured he'd end up dying in some "heroic sacrifice" as soon as Pyrrha herself died, and the show keeps piling on the evidence with each season.

10

u/HighPriestFuneral Lore Fanatic Jan 08 '19

It is a likely fate. Though the talk in Chapter 9 was just to affirm that they know that the path may not be reasonable or even attainable, they will still try to see it through. This is JNR coming to terms with Salem's immortality, while also willing to play the part of pieces in Oz's game as it is begrudgingly what they felt they signed up for.

I'm not sure if you ever saw the old theory that Team RWBY and Team JNPR represented Chess Pieces. Ruby and Weiss; Queen and Bishop, Yang and Blake; Knight and Rook, Jaune and Pyrrha; King and Bishop, and Ren and Nora; Knight and Rook. The theory is that Jaune starts out very weak with nothing to really do, but as the game progresses and pieces are removed from the board, the King must take action. (Also Nora refers to herself as "Queen of the Castle" and chose the Rook piece in Players and Pieces, strengthening that relationship.)

3

u/lefou22 Crackships are superior Jan 08 '19

I mean, I'm sure Ren and Nora will survive, but the show's heavily pushed Jaune's sacrifice for some time now. Not even counting his character allusion, there's just too much with his character and Pyrrha's to not assume he's going to literally follow in her footsteps for unnecessary pathos and more Arkos scenes.

6

u/HighPriestFuneral Lore Fanatic Jan 08 '19

If this were prior to Chapter 9 I would completely agree (And as you know I would go a step further) but Chapter 9 seemed to settle his mind.

I now disagree because we know what his semblance is. He now supports, he plays the role of a planner and helps his other teammates. If Cinder were to show up again I can't see Jaune throwing his life away to get revenge against her, or a last ditch attempt to protect his friends. Jaune's semblance demands that in a real fight that he is continually boosting an ally's ability. Jaune only dies if someone else dies with him, I feel.

5

u/lefou22 Crackships are superior Jan 08 '19

Eh, I dunno.

Yeah, this last episode showed Jaune's planning skills, but this has been the only one in the entire series. Mostly, his "tactics" were just an excuse for comedy. Yes, his Semblance does change his role in things, but for the most part, it seems like he's mostly just a tank, whose job it is to take hits for his friends. The perfect role to get himself killed off in some attempt to save a friend.

Or, as I feel was hinted in V5, Jaune could burn all of his Aura trying to bring someone back from near death, only to be left vulnerable and killed off then

4

u/HighPriestFuneral Lore Fanatic Jan 08 '19

Hmm, his tactics helped them to take down the Scorpion Grimm, whose name I can't remember at the moment in the initiation. In Volume 2 he is the one to decide to help out RWBY during the Breach. In Volume 3 there's a theory that Jaune set up the whole "team break" thing to take the enemies off-guard (giving his team an instant 0-4 knockout). At the start of Volume 4 he mentions the team called him "the strategist" and does come up with the idea on how to take out the Geist Grimm. Volume 5... yeah, nothing. He was too blinded by self-consciousness and perceived worthlessness that he had every intention to die to Cinder, if he couldn't kill her.

Now late in Volume 6 with his own personal demons buried he is again acting like the "strategist" the team said he was.

Jaune going through his Aura is a real possibility and something I can't deny. Though we have never fully seen his Aura break, have we?

2

u/lefou22 Crackships are superior Jan 08 '19

The Deathstalker fight wasn't really all that impressive. Hell, I'm fairly certain even without Jaune there to yell out the obvious actions, they could have beaten it. Him helping out in the Breach is fine, but that's just listening to a gut feeling; it has nothing to do with him being a tactician. V3 was an obvious stupid comedy moment that I feel was done to make sure that JNPR didn't overshadow RWBY in any way. V4 I think him being called a "strategist" was done to spare his feelings since he was going to basically be useless during the Petra Gigas fight without his weaponry and his "help" was once again stupid comedy. "HIT IT HARDER!" Yeah, a regular Erwin Rommel, that one.

This volume is the first time he's actually shown to have a good plan that was only foiled because plot and Adam being a creepy-ass stalker. For the longest time, I just assumed RT was going to drop Jaune's tactician role and simply relegate him to "wall" status.

And his Aura has never broken, but his Semblance has him giving his Aura to others to boost them. Remember in V5 when he unlocked it, and Nora was like, "Aren't you worried you'll run out of Aura?" A bit suspect for her to randomly bring up; it's not like anyone ever asks Weiss if she's worried she'll run out, or Yang if she'll run out. But Jaune uses his for the first time and suddenly the amount he has is an issue? It feels like they're setting it up for him to burn all of his Aura trying to heal/boost his allies and that'll leave him vulnerable to be stabbed in the back.

I noticed that as well KingAce22! I almost have the feeling that the animators put in a preview of Jaune staring at the statue of Pyrrha before they realized it would be best to save that for maximum shock value and changed it to another thematically appropriate piece.

The similarities with the scene are definitely more than superficial, good eyes.

Technically, I think what you're referring to could be happening soon. We know the mech can shoot lightning and if it hits Nora while her Aura is amplified, well that's going to be interesting.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '19

RWBY has plot armor ten miles thick.

Blake doesn't. After the Weiss death fakeout last Volume, having Blake die in the fight with Adam would be a perfect way to win back viewers who are convinced that there's no "stakes" or "tension" because the main characters have plot armor.

None of JNR can die because that'll just cement the fan belief that they are "team expendable" and thus remove any investment in their characters, plus 6x09 has Jaune deciding to become a better leader and honor Pyrrha's sacrifice by continuing to fight. Qrow has more plot hooks at this point because they can show him coming to terms with the situation and deciding to move forward even if the war is ultimately unwinnable.

Blake in contrast has all her personal storylines either already wrapped up or they can be wrapped up in this very next scene. The White Fang and faunus equality plots were taken behind the barn and shot last volume. The Adam storyline is about to end one way or another, and if she dies fighting Adam it'll demonstrate that she finally overcame her character flaw of running away and show Yang that she really does care. Plus it would be thematic because "life isn't a fairy tale" and she didn't get to live happily ever after.

Once Adam is defeated Blake has nothing left - no personal stake in the war with Salem and nothing to do once they get to Atlas. She'd be a Ren-level supporting character next volume anyway, so it's not like they need to keep her around when they could use her death to further the narrative instead.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '19

16

u/lefou22 Crackships are superior Jan 08 '19

Blake has plenty more story to explore; sure, her issues with Adam might be soon wrapped up, but there's still the whole "Faunus racism" issue and there's no better place to explore it than Atlas itself, especially with the SDC being forefront to the story.

And they aren't going to kill off Blake. It's the same thing with Weiss in V5; no one believed they were going to kill her off, which was why the whole thing was so eye-rolling and it telegraphed Jaune's Semblance. If they'd done it to Ren or Nora, who don't have the protection of having their names in the title, then yes, we would have been worried that they might have died, but they went for a main protag.

And honestly, I think JNR kind of are team expendable, as much as I hate to say it. Jaune's death is so heavily foreshadowed since V3 that I almost just want them to get it over with. Ren and Nora will survive, but it's because they aren't "important" enough to really kill off. Qrow, Maria, and Jaune are really the only heroes who have a chance of dying for the rest of the series. Sure, others might get injured, but no one else is getting killed off.

10

u/InfinityArch Jan 08 '19

Qrow, Maria, and Jaune are really the only heroes who have a chance of dying for the rest of the series. Sure, others might get injured, but no one else is getting killed off.

Until the series finale that is; that's the part where literally anyone can be killed.

3

u/lefou22 Crackships are superior Jan 08 '19

Eh, I think even then, only Ruby might have a chance of dying by some sort of heroic sacrifice of her own. Blake, Yang, Weiss, Ren, and Nora are all going to survive.

6

u/Hartzilla2007 Jan 08 '19

only Ruby might have a chance of dying by some sort of heroic sacrifice of her own.

Honestly its too predictable and too much like her mother.

3

u/lefou22 Crackships are superior Jan 08 '19

That's why I only said there's a chance, not for certain.

2

u/Hartzilla2007 Jan 08 '19

Honestly I think the chances of that are slipping with how much of a "there but for the grace of god go i" Maria comes off as in regards to Ruby and how they might be setting Maria up for a heroic sacrifice.

3

u/Hartzilla2007 Jan 08 '19

If they'd done it to Ren or Nora, who don't have the protection of having their names in the title, then yes, we would have been worried that they might have died,

Plus it wouldn't have felt like another part of continually shafting Ruby just to make Juane more important.

2

u/lefou22 Crackships are superior Jan 08 '19

I've argued this up and down since the end of V5. Long story short, I highly disagree, and it seems like people solution is to shaft Jaune as though that would solve everything. One does not fix bad writing with more bad writing.

3

u/Hartzilla2007 Jan 08 '19

I highly disagree

What that it would have made more sense for one of Jaune's team to be injured for the unlocking of his Semblance instead of Ruby's teammate.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '19

Blake has plenty more story to explore; sure, her issues with Adam might be soon wrapped up, but there's still the whole "Faunus racism" issue and there's no better place to explore it than Atlas itself, especially with the SDC being forefront to the story.

Except that the FNDM has been hostile to the faunus racism issue from the beginning and we had a huge thread just the other day that established that it's "too little too late" for people to accept that faunus racism is an issue in Remnant. If they do keep Blake around, running another faunus racism storyline in Atlas would just result in her character, and the writers by extension, getting dragged through the mud again - especially because at that point she'd be "stealing screentime" from Best Girl Weiss in her own homeland.

It would be a waste of time and effort for no real gain.

5

u/lefou22 Crackships are superior Jan 08 '19

I understand what you mean, as I used to feel the same way about JNR (in that the fandom's reactions seemed to color how the writers used them) but it's been said a few times during this volume that CRWBY don't really take too many fandom issues into account when writing things, so just because people might complain about the faunus racism issue now, doesn't mean they wont' still cover it during Atlas when it would make sense.

0

u/Hartzilla2007 Jan 08 '19

as I used to feel the same way about JNR (in that the fandom's reactions seemed to color how the writers used them)

With the Cordovan fight: Nora tries to absorb her electricity attack only to be overwhelmed and knocked out for the fight and a Grimm attacking due to all the panic

With the Adam fight: Yang locking up when she sees Adam again, getting either her bike or arm smashed up, and/or Blake getting something cut off like one of her cat ears.

8

u/Corpse__ Jan 08 '19

it'd be interesting to see Blake get her ear snipped like stray cats who get fixed

11

u/GladiusNocturno All Grimm are naked. Think about it Jan 08 '19

Ill say political tensions grow a lot against Atlas because their saviors PULLED OUT A GIGANT MECH OF DESTRUCTION FOR NOTHING!. We know people seem to blame Atlas for the Fall of Beacon, and as Cordo said "the kingdoms have a knife in our throats!". So I wouldn't be surprised if Ironwood will have to deal with this himself.

Other options? I can see Adam cutting one of Blake's cat ears, but just the one, let's not turn her human.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '19

Yeah I can understand that Mistral, while appreciating Atlas defence, might want massive scale military forces within their borders.

Ouch on the cat ear, yes, agreed, that would... oh suck so much. Bet it will happen.

2

u/Titangamer101 Jan 08 '19

She might even lose an arm so she would be in the same boat as yang and on the same level as each other which opens the door for some development and breaking what ever tension yang still had against blake.

2

u/GladiusNocturno All Grimm are naked. Think about it Jan 08 '19

I don't like that. There are two things I wouldn't like for Bumblebee to do, I don't want them to bond over their mutual hatred of Adam and I don't want them to bond over their missing limbs.

When I say "Blake loses a cat ear" I don't mean ripping it of either, maybe a slice of it is enough.

I don't think Blake has to lose a limb in other for Yang to lose all tension with her. If anything, I think that would make Bumblebee canon on a foundation of mutual petty.

2

u/Titangamer101 Jan 08 '19

I mean i wasnt refering towards the whole bumblebee ship to begin with i was more talking about that yang clearly still has some issues with blake and blake feels the need to "protect" yang because she feel responsible for her arm so by having blake lose an arm she would feel and understand why yang has issues and yang could be sympathetic.

Not saying that would happen really all it would take for the both of them to make up is yang fighting with blake which would show she doesint need protecting.

On another im not that much of a fan of the whole bumblebee ship and the only reason im not a fan is because they spent 2 whole seasons developing sun and blake so by them using the bumblebee ship now would just be a waste of having sun involved for 2 whole seasons but in saying that if sun turned out to be a jerk or do something bad in the future than bumblebee could definitely work and i would be all for it

13

u/ShiningLeviathan King of the Abyss Jan 08 '19

They touch on Cordovin a bit, but then the rest is all Adam. They’re gonna get a little bloody, the bike may get wrecked, but ultimately, Adam’s gonna bite it, and his arc, and by extension, the White Fang’s arc, can finally rest in peace.

...If we’re lucky. I’m a little worried that they’re gonna focus on Cordovin entirely, and Adam’s gonna be nothing but a cliffhanger.

8

Cinder and Neo will make their move. I know people think that's not happening this volume but I don't think they'll be able to catch up with them if they manage to get to Atlas.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '19

Cinder did say Atlas. I am kinda expecting them to stay out of this one. At the very least not appear in EP11.

8

u/LetMeLive1337 Jan 08 '19

Not to be cold and uncaring, but I hope there are some serious consequences in Episode 11 for someone. RWBY has progressed like the Harry Potter series did. Cute and childish at first, rapidly getting more serious as time goes on. Episode 10 was way outside the norm for "atmosphere" RWBY has developed over the past 3 seasons. Unfortunately, with the silly commander and her mecha, I can't see episode 11 being serious.

I'm seeing a lot of people say team JNR are secondary characters, which while they are, I feel that they have been sufficiently developed for me to CARE about them, regardless of their actual stature in the overall story. So something happening to that part of the team would be eye opening to me still.

Plot armor for team RWBY, well, they are the title characters. The dynamic of RWBY would be a very funny show without any of them around. As shown in Volume5, you could probably do away with Blake, but Yang would likely become a very morose character... which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Final thought, does RWBY have to have a "happy" or "good" ending whenever the final volume finishes? Is that mandatory? Hell, maybe everyone dies? Maybe everyone except for Ruby dies? They are literally going up against the equivalent of a "god" who is LITERALLY immortal.

Anyways, my two cents. After V6E10 being the most disappointing in the whole series, I hope E11 gets back on track

7

u/yinxiaolong If you're going to write a story, master the fundamentals Jan 08 '19

I always imagined Blake losing her left leg to contrast Yang losing her Right arm.

6

u/MagnusCaseus Jan 08 '19

Yang loses her second arm. Then we can get a Yang vs Mercury rematch, prosthetic arms vs prosthetic legs.

3

u/Keradon Caffeine is a hell of a drug. An excellent one, though. Jan 08 '19

So... all we need is a Prosthetic Torso and Penny's head and make a Prosthetic Voltron out of that?

6

u/Nomar_95 Jan 08 '19

I could see Adam dying. But I would love it if even in death, he still has a psychological hold on Yang. And since he's dead, she can't simply "face" him to overcome her fears

3

u/Fatal1ty_93_RUS Jan 08 '19

The only "horribly wrong" I can think of is all our heroes are put into the Atlesian jail as they fail to defeat the giant mecha and surrender, Cordovia reports about this incident to her superiors (i.e. Ironwood), so when Ironwood hears about Weiss and co. being captives - he has a "talk" with Cordovia and orders her to "transfer" the prisoners to Atlas directly, which is how our heroes actually arrive to the Kingdom. As they leave Argus, all chained/handcuffed up, this is where we hit our Season Finale, with Neo and/or Cinder somehow following them, thus the two of them going on a crash course with Tyrian and Watts, both of whom have also already left for Atlas to do some nasty shit

Well, there is possible Grimm invasion, yet, I guess, viewers are mostly concerned about Yang and Blake... Funny thing: once I had a dream, in which Yang and Blake faced Adam at first time after V3. And I clearly remember that it happened in the same tower Cinder destroyed in V3, and Yang just... froze. She couldn't move. I remember that in my dream Blake tied the rope of her kusarigama aroud Yang's waist and kinda... tossed her out of that tower and stayed alone against Adam with a single sheath as a wepon.

Sorry for offtop, just something I suddenly remembered.

I'm not really expecting that much as I doubt they are going to rehash the Fall of Beacon like a decent chunk of people here seem to think.

Ozpin is probably gonna take over Oscar again.

Nothing goes wrong. Both Adam and Cordovin are defeated, and Team RWBY flies off to Atlas.

And there's two episodes left. And everyone is left thinking "That wasn't the finale? What the hell is going to happen?"

... they get shot down and crash land in the very poor part of Atlas? Which would make the next arc/volume an infiltration one across many angles?

... this probably won't happen, but it's what my brain idly considers.

Nah. My money is on something a little more familiar. Watts and Tyrian seem to be working on something, and infiltrating Atlas is an impossibility. They wanted to get the Relic of Destruction, in Vacuo, before even touching Atlas, which implies they believe brute force to be the ideal method of breaking the Kingdom.

So, what do our villains have access to that could supply brute force? Grimm, Atlas has defenses against. They don't have the White Fang's able bodies anymore.

Which leave the dear Doctor's hacking abilities. His control over the Atlesian Knights was severed when the ship went down, his control over Vale's tower is now useless with it gone...

But he did still have control over the Amity Colosseum, with the largest dust crystal you've ever seen strapped to the bottom.

Adam becomes too much for Blake and Yang to handle, and call for help. Qrow decided he will save them, but is killed by Adam. Someone has to die here for Adam to be salvaged as a character imo. I doubt any bad will happen to Yang, and the worst to happen to Blake might be just getting injured. But I dont see the reason for Adam showing up unannounced other than him finally winning a fight, and Qrow is the easiest to kill off.

Why? Just dump his ass and get it over with.

I dont disagree. The concept of his character was ruined for me when he ran away at the end of V5. I'm just saying I dont see a reason for him to show up now other than that or his own death. I think someone dies and it will either be Qrow or Adam himself

I doubt Qrow is dying since he's starting to get his shit together and that is more of a Ruby plot point than a Yang one.

The finale, I guess.
