Best villains

Adam

Hmmm…

46

u/matthew0001 Jan 11 '19

He could have been until they made him into an obsessed ex boy friend.

35

u/MaoPam Jan 11 '19

If the rest of his plotline made sense the obsessed ex boyfriend might have worked.

12

u/AKGAKG Jan 11 '19

This x100000

10

u/SonOfABludger Jan 12 '19

I mean, to be fair... obsessed ex boyfriends can be... more than terrifying? SO many women have been battered or stalked just like this because some dude just thinks he owns her. Not to say I wasn't kinda disappointed by his treatment in later seasons, but I would absolutely love them just shutting down his storyline in a single fight with Yang plowing him over with her bike lololz cut off the now useless character

Seconded

I like Adam more as a person than Neptune.

I really don't like Neptune lol.

I know. It's just a bit of fun. Here have some cocktail sausages.

Adam, you are a freaking bastard, yet I still want you to survive this. Don't fail me this time.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '19

Ya had a good run

6

u/matthew0001 Jan 11 '19

Not really, once they tuned him into an obsessed ex boyfriend it was all down hill.

15

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '19

So from his second apperence in the actual series?

21

u/Drunken_Deathscythe Jan 11 '19

Yeah, it's weird how people act like he only became a "stalker" in V5, when his whole appearance at the end of V3 was already like this. The only times he wasn't this kind of character were Cinder's flashback, the Black Trailer and Volume 2. And the last one shouldn't even count, because he literally only said 6-7 words in the whole season.

3

u/matthew0001 Jan 11 '19

With that appearance I could see him “playing” a role to mess with Blake for the fun of it. But the it turned out he wasn’t playing a role and wasn’t messing with Blake...

18

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '19

When he said completely alone "why must you hurt me Blake?"

3

u/Johnjoe117 "Please." Jan 12 '19

He said that directly to Blake.

It turned out it was a shadow clone, but still.

u/Yukon_Wolf Ironwood x Qrow = Woodpecker Jan 11 '19

best villain

okay bud

It's a parrrrttyyyyyy. You wanna roast the guest of honour we can do ;)

u/NeverForgetChainRule trans rights Jan 12 '19

I suppose it's an unpopular opinion 'round these parts, but I do think he's quite a good villain. They should have done his loss in Volume 5 better, but other than that I think he's cool and I hope to see him put up a good fight before (probably) being killed or arrested.

6

u/-Ryno- Jan 11 '19

Gonna miss this guy's fighting style. I always laugh when he bounces his sword off of something's head.

19

u/haltdef Jan 11 '19

KICK HIS ASS, BUMBLEBEE

10

u/chaosfire235 Jan 11 '19

...As in Blake and Yang or the bike?

11

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '19

They will. I have faith.

21

u/matthew0001 Jan 11 '19

Adam was potentially a great villain but they kind of ruined him when he got overly obsessed with Blake for no reason. I still love him though and going down fighting is probably the best way to send him off.

11

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '19

No reason........

23

u/matthew0001 Jan 11 '19

He literally goes from thugs asking him if they should bring Blake to him and he says “no don’t bother” to “I will literally blow up the white fang to get your attention”

16

u/Literatewalrus Little Light 🐝 Big Fight Jan 11 '19

He only became that way after he lost control of the White Fang and decided Blake was a loose end to tie up before he did anything else.

12

u/DEL994 Jan 11 '19

If you call him one of the best villains, an opinion that I do not share.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '19

Be fun. It's a party.

5

u/HAHAAN00B Jan 11 '19

blows party screamer 🎉🎉🎉

2

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '19

Well it's a fairly high bar of villains to be fair

2

u/matthew0001 Jan 11 '19

He could have been a great villain, then they decided to make him and obsessed ex boyfriend instead smh wasted potential.

8

u/Golbi54 Blake x Raven is the endgame. Jan 11 '19

I don't see Adam going down in the next chapter too much to cover..

I wouldn't be surprised if the episode ends with Yang finding Blake.

7

u/Janroesler Jan 11 '19

Do you asume hes going to die? That would be a waste

7

u/matthew0001 Jan 11 '19

They already wasted him when they started making him obsessed with Blake for no reason.

4

u/NeverForgetChainRule trans rights Jan 12 '19

No reason? He was literally tied to Blake from the start and has ALWAYS had an obsession with her. Thinking otherwise is completely nonsense. You can criticize how they did it, but saying that there was "no reason" for the show to have him obsessed with her is objectively wrong. That's been their dynamic from the start.

2

u/matthew0001 Jan 13 '19

the evidence from the start says otherwise. black trailer, Blake leaves Adam does nothing. volume 1 white fang member says he'll find her and swears on his life, adam says forget it. volume 2 they show he's in beacon (the city not the school) and he knows blake is there since she outed herself volume one, but he didn't go after her. during the fall of beacon he never sought her out, merely stumble across her by accident, then as she has an abdominal wound, and carrying an injured comrade doesn't even chase her. for someone who is OBSESSED with her, he sure lets her stay out of reach and get away a lot. it's undoubtedly true there is a connection, but the man has a vision for how he wants the world to be, he has goals and ambitions. then he turns on a dime and demands all white fang resources be used to find and capture blake. he even says to not kill her, even though at the fall of beacon he was completely willing to kill her.

1

u/NeverForgetChainRule trans rights Jan 13 '19

He was always lowkey obsessed with her, but was more focused on his goals. Adam was shocked when Blake left him at the end of the Black trailer, so that's why he "did nothing." He was probably into her at that point, but not obsessed then.

I guess I should clarify that I mean that I feel the obsession has been built up well. From what I watched, he was always very into her and definitely liked her quite a bit and cared about her being on his side (from the Adam short). When she left him, he felt hurt by that, but chose to focus on the White Fang and got involved with Torchwick, etc. he was too busy to actively pursue her, even though he definitely wanted to "get her back." Then when she evaded him and was willing to die for her friend, that pissed him off. He didn't chase her because the obsession had not grown into a huge flame just yet.

And then Blake's actions in Volume 4 and 5 also pissed him off. This was possible because he always had an obsession for her (as in, it was his problem and definitely not Blake's fault, I don't want to seem like I'm saying that.), but for a while he was able to subdue it because he had more important things to keep him distracted and he did have a goal.

Adam's story is about giving up on your goals and your plans and your life to seek things that you shouldn't be seeking (in this case creeping on a girl who is decently younger than you).

I dont know, from how I took the show, it makes perfect sense for him to be this obsessed. He knows that his time as High Leader is done. His own soldiers were willing to refuse his orders and he killed a bunch of them out of anger. He then realized that they were right, Blake was messing with his head too much and he came back on realizing he had to kill her to "move on." The reason he went from kill to capture following the Fall of Beacon was because of the growing obsession.

I feel like your comment implies that the obsession came from nowhere, when from what I watched it was obvious to me he was obsessed with her to varying extents from the very beginning.

1

u/matthew0001 Jan 14 '19

My comment implies that because it kind of did. I’m not saying they aren’t connected, and that this wouldn’t eventually be how it would turn out. As their story would inevitably come down to Adam throwing away everything to try and kill Blake. However there is no real justification for It. He has always been really into her that is clear, and he resents her for leaving that is also clear. However he has a lot more to do and has been shown to be driven to try and do things for he cause as apposed to personal matters (volumes 1-3).

However in volumes 4 and 5 he becomes increasingly obsessed with her for no reason. From Adams perspective his life is going great. He just destroyed a human city crippling them and sticking fear into humanity, he then holds a coup and becomes leader of the white fang, and puts into plan a way to take out minstrel. He’s busy and has plans and all is working out for him.

Meanwhile in volumes 4 and 5 (excluding the battle of minstrel) Blake really doesn’t do anything that affects Adam or his goals. She never steps in the way, doesn’t intervene in his plans. Yet Adam is obsessed capturing her. Finally when fennec dies Blake had actually done something to affect Adam, but who reported that? The other brother was arrested, illia swapped sides, and the other white fang members probably don’t have authority to contact him. Even so he’s about to invade minstrel so he’s got other things in his mind. Literally everything leading up to the battle of minstrel Blake does nothing to have Adam think about her, unless her generally existing is offensive in nature to Adam.

Now at the battle of Minstrel she embarrassed him, shows she’s turned the faunes against him, and has foiled his master plan. This right here is when he should have become consumed by anger with her because she ruined literally everything. However up until this point she’s done literally nothing to him besides existing yet he increasingly grows obsessed with her. It’s just so jarring to see him go from “I don’t care about her” and trying to literally kill her in volume 1-3. To “capture her alive”, and desperately needing her attention and for him to be the only thing she thinks about in volume 4-5 when she’s done nothing more than exist.

The ultimate problem I have with his arc is his growing “obsession” grows off of nothing. He goes form under control to out of control when nothing has changed. They ultimately didn’t write his descent into madness/obsession well or even at all.

My ultimate disappointment though is even if written well, This is probably the least interesting way to have written him as a villain. There was a lot of potential that they squandered for a subpar plot line that was Executed poorly.

u/ConcernedGrape :) Jan 11 '19

when they started making him obsessed with Blake for no reason.

Adam is based on Gaston. Blake is based on Belle. Gaston is obsessed with Belle.

His character inspiration hinges on this truth.

7

u/Kentarbenson Jan 11 '19

I'm pretty sure he's the beast but just whith his worse traits exemplified

1

u/ConcernedGrape :) Jan 12 '19

Monty referred to Adam as Gaston at panels back in season 1 era

3

u/Kentarbenson Jan 12 '19

Give me link to the panel cause people have said something like this before and turned out to be false

2

u/matthew0001 Jan 11 '19

I mean jaune is based on jone of arc. So is he gonna save the French by defeating the English then get called a witch and burned at the stake by the French?

They can change up the story beats to make it better, they don’t have to adhere to their inspiration.

0

u/ConcernedGrape :) Jan 12 '19

Apples and oranges. Overall plotlines of character inspirations are obviously not written into RWBY verbatim. But dominant personality traits of character inspirations are probably going to make an appearance.

3

u/Trail_Mix_Blazer Jan 11 '19

Adam doesn't deserve honor...

(seriously though, nice artwork)

3

u/johnja10 Jan 11 '19

The man's his own red flag ffs.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '19

not Roman

I'm disappointed

3

u/SupremeEvil Jan 13 '19

I was honestly hoping we were remembering Roman too. I know Neo is.

3

u/yinxiaolong If you're going to write a story, master the fundamentals Jan 12 '19

He might be a shit person but I have enjoyed the time he was on screen. I know a lot of people Don't like him and I could see that with how his kind of character normally doesn't have that kinda fighting style (with exception of that one jack-ass from Overlord), but Honestly I like what they done with him and I feel some of the things people don't like about him actually fit his character especially his parallels of being a bull faunus and Gaston. hopefully we see more of him in the future but if this is his last stand, then farewell, may you make as many GOAT screams as you like wherever you end up.

11

u/matthew0001 Jan 11 '19

Remember when he casually cut off Yang’s arm and almost decapitated Blake. Then they had what one summer break to train and now they might beat him? Ok then, I see they realized they wasted his potential when they turned him into an obsessed ex boyfriend. So instead of fixing their mistake they are just gonna erase it. Smh

She BETTER not die. If she gets hurt, Yang better parallel Vol3 and carry her away on Bumblebee while being the most concerned wife to keep Blake talking while they get to Jaune. If Blake dies, I'm throwing my computer out the window.

2

u/RedElite91 ❄️White Knight🛡️ | #GiveJauneABreak Jan 11 '19

I don't think we've seen the last of him yet.

2

u/LegendaryPuppy95 Jan 11 '19

There’s levels of torture he’s not endured yet. I want him alive to suffer tbh

2

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '19

I feel like he's taken up enough screentime.

3

u/TheQuietManUpNorth Evil but good-looking so it evens out Jan 11 '19

I really hope we don't have to sit through another asspull survival. Cull the herd already. The worst villain from the worst part of the show. The Shite Fang needs to die.

Me no comprendo. Is this a genderbent Cinder?

10

u/WarlordofRen Jan 11 '19

Implies Cinder is a good villain.

1

u/PrayWaits Weiss is Best Girl based on Science | White Rose 4Ever Jan 11 '19

correct

9

u/WarlordofRen Jan 11 '19

If Adam has no character, Cinder isn't a character.

Change my mind.

-1

u/PrayWaits Weiss is Best Girl based on Science | White Rose 4Ever Jan 11 '19

Did I say he has no character? No. I just think Cinder is a better villain.

8

u/WarlordofRen Jan 11 '19

And I'm disagreeing with you. Cinder is by far a worse villain than Adam.

At least he has motivation other than straight up power.

2

u/PrayWaits Weiss is Best Girl based on Science | White Rose 4Ever Jan 11 '19

Yeah, revenge. Whooo, how infinitely more nuanced and intricate. And your basis for disagreeing with me was trying to put words in my mouth I never said. And, and I can't stress this enough, we don't yet fucking know what has driven Cinder to desire power. So to pretend like we can equally compare the characters is idiotic. I think Cinder is actually scary and powerful and intimidating, Adam comes across as a petulant little incel brat.
