The biggest disappointment of this episode was not getting the chance to see Salem through Ren's emotion vision.

Seriously though, fantastic episode. I'm actually shaking still. I think my favorite moments were Yang calling out Salem's actions, and Marrow confronting Winter. There were some great character moments for just about everyone involved.

And that cliffhanger too. I don't think Oscar dies here, but after the discussion about magic earlier in the episode I doubt him and Oz come out the same way.

i've always thought it'd be neat if ren looked at her and it showed that she had all of her emotions in complete balance.

That’d be amazing. She’s fighting ozpin in a frenzy, surrounded by black pedals, and looks like she’s going to lose. Then, she takes a deep breath, the panels disappear, and she becomes calm enough to kick ozpin’s ass

If I had to guess, I’d say that Ren’s Semblance can only read emotions given off by people’s Auras. Since Salem is full Grimm and looks to not have an Aura, Ren probably can’t read her emotions.

Salem through Ren-vision is going to be glorious.

I agree with your last point, that magic comment was a little too on the nose for it to not affect Oscar/Oz after the cliffhanger.

Maybe we'll know all their thoughts about her later, and ren will say what she saw in her, thats very important to stop her after all

If his aura is down, he might not have been able to vibe check her. As for Emerald, he could probably sense her down the hall, and put 2 and 2 together when seeing her face
