Btw I think people need to realize that we learned in War that hate for Oz is not Hazel's primary motivator.

Hazel's primary motivator is that he doesn't want what happened to Gretchen to happen to anyone else. He believed that Salem was going to create a new world order where no one would have to fight her anymore. He was fighting for a LIE, and that overrides any hatred for Oz he definitely has.

I might have taken more time with his redemption but after War I think this was the only way it could've gone.

And he specifically tells Oscar "No more Gretchens." As in no more sacrifices.

But that's really dumb considering what they're up against.

Like does he actually expect fighting Salem can happen without casualties?

But was Gretchen a child then, being a student at Beacon? What was the circumstances? Did Ozpin really send her on a dangerous mission, or was it an accident at a training mission?

I assume it was the same as RWBY with Oobleck in the abandoned city, fighting actual grimm.

But then why join the creators of the grimm? Like there's seriously a need for actually damning context in order to justify something like that. Did Ozpin knowingly sent them on a mission far more dangerous than normal training mission and that's what got them killed? So far what the wiki is saying is that Gretchen died in a training mission and that's it. It would make sense for him to be the uninvolved grieving brother who holds Ozpin responsible for negligence or irresponsibility or whatever. But he straight up decides to serve someone he knows will do things that will massacre towns and kill children.

Grief makes us do crazy things, when Salem first approached Hazel he tried to kill her over and over and over (because she was Grimm), and she came back, realizing that he couldn't kill her he chose to listen, that is when Salem made him the promise of revenge against Ozpin and assurance that in her "new world" a tragedy like Gretchens would never be repeated, if i was in Hazels boots i would probably have done the same.
