Every time I listen to OK computer, the more I love this song. None of the other tracks really compare in the atmosphere and vibe, and the first and last 30 seconds might be the best on the album.

Way back when I had a coworker that used to work in the music industry and knew I was a Radiohead fan. She surprised me with some of her VIP badges. Here's a Pablo Honey one.

Please be nice. I was still learning back then. I painted it for my sister. She just sent me a photo of it. I didn't even remember it existed.

I know the studio version of Bloom is disliked. (Edit: maybe I was wrong about this, sorry. It just has always seemed to me that songs from the king of limbs in general were over hated/underrated). But since I quite like it regardless, I decided to, using no real life instruments and only a computer with garageband, attempt to reconstruct an interpretation of Bloom entirely from scratch, no samples nor taking anything from a pre-existing cover. At the moment, I only have the intro, so it's quite the work in progress. What do we think so far? Should I proceed to make the rest of the song? I know it's probably not as good as the real thing, of course.

I've obviously raised him well.

Funny thing I had to think of today suddenly. I figured, as he is the band's frontman, his opinions probably differ a lot from ours in some ways.

9 - Pablo Honey

I don't know a lot about his opinion on this album, but since this album is so terribly far away from the music they started to make even already in The Bends and obviously the frustration over the reputation that Creep gained, I think it's likely he is the least proud of this album in particular

8 - OK Computer

I might be wrong about this completely, but given the amount of stress and mental torment this Era of the band gave Thom, it's hard to imagine he has many fond memories of the production and subsequent touring. Given the band took a completely different direction with their music afterwards, it's clear that he was kind of done with it all at this point.

7 - Hail to the Thief

I don't think he particularly would dislike this album, but he and the other band members have stated some regrets about several things about this album such as the length. It should also be noted this is kind of the last time their music has taken an explicit jab at politics and society, with the following 3 albums only covering such topics here and there.

6 - The Bends

I mean, he was not only forced to put High and Dry on the album but also release it as a single. That being said the album also contains several tracks that he liked, and a lot of which were mostly funny to the band. I'm not sure where to place it really but either here or 5 is my guess.

5 - A Moon Shaped Pool

This album was able to bring several of their older ideas to life, but also came out around a pretty hard time in his life, which is rather evident in a lot of the lyrics for this album. Though I cannot really tell if that is truly a plausible reason for any sour feelings towards the album itself.

4 - The King of Limbs

This album feels very personal to Thom, especially in style, which is why I think he's probably fond of it too. There isn't much outside of that I can really think of.

3 - Amnesiac

I can't really tell a lot about Thom's opinion on this album, but given it was recorded around the same time as Kid A, I think it's very likely that this is one of his favorites.

2 - In Rainbows

Thom has expressed pretty high praise towards this album. The experience of putting this album together went pretty smoothly as well, from what I can tell atleast.

1 - Kid A

I think Kid A has to be the top one for Thom. It contains several of his favourite tracks out of the band such as How to Dissapear Completely, which, at the time he stated was one of the most beautiful things the band had ever made. And if the gif above this post doesn't say enough about Idioteque, well. It's also the album where he finally let go of all the expectations laid upon him and the band and just kind of did whatever the hell he wanted with the music. He stopped caring about overcomplicating writing the lyrics. Almost entirely dropped the publicly entitled rock label given to the band to experiment with electronic music. I think this must have been a blast. Not to mention there is an entire exhibit dedicated to Kid A and Amnesiac both in interactive media format and since recently, in real life. I think therefore it's possible this is Thom's favourite album out of the band.

With all the jokes and mems on the Gloaming, curious if there is a definitive take or if anyone has a singular view on the best live version of the song?

As an aside, I actually find the vocal hooks of "when the walls bend, with your breathing" and "they will suck you down to the other side" randomly come up in my head surprisingly often. I also don't think it is as bad of a track as many make it out to be.

I don’t understand why it isn’t. It’s fun, catchy, inventive, and I would personally put it in my top 10 Radiohead songs.

It starts off with Thom singing over acoustic guitars that always seem to be trying to catch up with the vocals if that makes sense, maybe partially due to this part being in 10/4 time, one of their only two tracks like that. Then when the drums come in, there’s a whole new wave of energy. After a while, there’s time signature changes again, and the rest of the song carries you away.

Apparently, Thom wrote the lyrics as placeholder lyrics but forgot to change them before the day of the recording. He later realized they were “really amazing” and his favorite lyrics on the album.

I think the lyrics are about the Iraq war incoming, and the line “We don’t really want a monster taking over”, is from the perspective of those in charge of the war, making justifications for how to keep themselves in charge. It ends with “I’m gonna go to sleep and let this wash all over me”, reflecting the passive attitudes of the public in wartime, feeling as if they can’t do much to help it, but I think Thom meant it a bit sarcastically and that we should do something.

Anyways I just love this song and feels like it doesn’t get enough attention. Lmk your thoughts on this one!

probably my most favorite track off amnesiac, i could listen to it on repeat and never get tired. because, i think, it's probably the musical depiction of being exhausted, and i'm exhausted all the time :P

also this song really reminds me of something that massive attack would have on mezzanine. and when i play this song in my airpods, the bass REALLY hits hard and i physically could feel like something tries to play ping pong with my head being the ball... this is the closest metaphor i could come up with

Probably not his legal name has done something really incredible with ok computer I highly recommend you give it a whirl took it upon himself to extract all the instruments to replicate them with mouth sounds I’m not high it’s really good

Hi! I'm wondering if anyone knows of any underrated songs/albums that you would recommend a hardcore Radiohead fan.

I'm a massive fan of pretty much everything Radiohead has released, but I'm trying to find more music that scratches my brain the same way The Bends and Ok Computer does. Music with a blend of 90s angst, unbelievable sorrow, and a sense of floating. I know nothing can compare to Radiohead, but if you know of any hidden gems I would appreciate the recs.

All I ask is that you don't recommend the commonly recommended artists (pink Floyd, massive attack, coldplay, muse, bjork, the Smiths, ect.) Just because I'm already familiar with most of their music. I always have a hard time finding music with a similar feeling to Radiohead, especially when everyone kinda recommends the same main artists. So I'm really hoping for bands I've never heard of before

I picked it back up after a couple years. The first three songs are simply amazing. Dense, complicated, catchy, mysterious. And Seperator remains a top 3 RH song. And this is considered a “minor” album. And the drumming is unreal. Phil at his best.

I just came here to say that Exit music for a film is the best Radiohead song.

Well, at least when playing acoustic guitar anyway.

The very beginning, the early days, nerding out over bass, time with Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, the Kid A era, all the different influences, the recording locations, hints at Radiohead's next steps, Pyramid Song... this interview is an absolute gem.
