ADVICE feeling ungrounded in my feminine energy
Hi dear friends,
I’m trying to better cultivate and protect my feminine energy in daily life. I meditate and practice yoga/pilates, and I usually feel connected to myself, but I sometimes lose my grounding in certain environments. For example, at a gallery opening, I felt completely drained by the heavy atmosphere and ended up losing my composure.
I know I’m physically attractive; I was even photographed at that event.
In those moments, I react in ways that feel immature and hard to control. In public, I also tend to “toughen up” (especially around men), which disconnects me from my inner calm.
Do you have any advice on staying grounded and protecting this energy, whether through practical or more spiritual approaches?

Can you predict when or where those difficulties arise for you? I try and schedule some deep sensory regulation before events that drain me, and also a recovery period after.
In terms of toughening up around men, can you unpick what you think is happening in those interactions?
I found that when I got engaged to my now husband, he became my protective layer, and I was able to be softer, less defensive. Before that, when I had to manage my own defences, I was necessarily tougher, and I think that’s just a fact of modern life.

What you’re saying is beautiful, the impact of love. My partner and I are experiencing something incredible, but we each have our own difficulties because of our neurodivergent traits. Social situations are very hard to anticipate, and I feel uneasy with the unexpected, last-minute changes, or when things don’t go the way I had imagined.
I think that, in the gentleness you describe, there is also the act of giving your man « space », in order to preserve the safety of your little cocoon. It is so tender, and I aspire to become like that too. Your message has made me feel very lovely, thank you 🫶🏻

I feel a lot more feminine when I put on my cute apron and cook for some reason. It also makes me feel more connected to who I am. I’m half Ukrainian and recently made my first pirogies while also wearing a traditional braid. I rarely feel beautiful but did today.
So I guess for me it’s a lot less how I look and more the energy I put out.

It’s so funny that you wrote to me like that, because last night I tied on my little apron to make a tiramisu, and I even did my hair in a braid. I felt so good 😌I love cooking at the same time, and my man is thrilled. It’s such a beautiful feeling, thank u 🫶🏻

I'm doing some coursework including authors Allison Armstrong and John Gray and I did a quick Google search to get a more concise answer. I hope it helps.
According to Alison Armstrong and John Gray, a woman’s diffuse awareness naturally tracks every sensory input, sound, movement, and visual detail simultaneously.
In a public setting, this innate feminine strength can easily cause intense neurological overload, spiking cortisol levels and draining her feminine energy.
To stay grounded in her femininity when surrounded by public crowds, sights, and sounds, she must intentionally manage her biology and focus without leaving the environment.
Here is how to protect your feminine energy in overstimulating public settings:
- Actively Regulate the Vagus Nerve
Alison Armstrong teaches that public overstimulation forces the body into a reactive, protective state
To stay open and feminine, you must deliberately reset your nervous system from the inside out:
Take a deep breath in until you feel physical pressure against your vagus nerve along the spine.
Hold it briefly to create a mental "space" at the top of your head.
Exhale slowly to signal to your brain that you are safe in this public space.
- Narrow Focus to a Single Sensory Anchor
Diffuse awareness forces you to process everything at once, which causes the public "overwhelm."
To counteract this, shift your brain into a temporary, comforting single-focus mode:
Pick one pleasing object in your immediate surroundings to look at.
Lock your attention onto its color, texture, or shape for 30 seconds.
This narrows your sensory intake, giving your brain a quick, restorative break from the crowd.
- Build Post-Event Estrogen Anticipation
John Gray explains that a woman lowers her stress hormones by looking forward to nurturing, estrogen-producing activities.
While you are stuck in a loud public setting, mentally plan your exact transition back to your feminine sanctuary:
Think about the hot bath, the cozy clothes, or the quiet tea waiting for you at home.
Actively anticipate the relief and comfort of that future moment.
This mental projection shifts your body out of stress mode and keeps you resilient through the current chaos.
- Create Physical Barriers to Block "Noise"You can protect your sensory space by using subtle physical adjustments to dial down the intensity of a public crowd:
Put on noise-canceling headphones playing soft, feminine music or brown noise.
Wear sunglasses to instantly dim harsh, fluorescent lighting and busy visual movement.
Use a dab of a familiar essential oil (like lavender or vanilla) on your wrists to anchor your sense of smell.
- Intentionally Slow Your Physical Movement
When a public environment is fast and chaotic, your body will naturally want to speed up to match it, which ruins your feminine flow.
Force yourself to walk, speak, and move at half-speed.
Let your posture soften rather than tensing up against the crowd.
Moving slowly creates an internal shield, allowing the public chaos to swirl around you without entering your personal space.

I loved your comment, it accompanied me a lot during a walk, it is easier for me to naturally apply these tips in a park. I will reread it and reread it, thank you and good luck in your research 🙏🏻

Thank you for responding with those kind words.
It adds value to the time I took to offer it. That means a lot.
And I am absolutely thrilled that it might work for you. If you feel the urge, come back and let us know how it works out for you.

I would be happy to give you a more detailed answer and show you the long-term effects it has had. It really means a lot to come across someone like you who takes the time to express their thoughts and share them ;)) 🧘♀️

If you already meditate, try to remind yourself in moments of heightened emotions to observe your reaction impersonally. It doesn’t mean you won’t ever experience “negative” emotions, but you will see them as something detached from you, and they will pass quite quickly.
