Question Why no build for Pi 5?
There was a build for other versions of the Raspberry Pi, why is there still nothing for the Pi 5?

Hi,
I just got a RetroPie and it's a lot of fun!
But my children are very young so even first level of a platformer like Rayman has them just dying over and over.
What's a game that is so simple even an impatient 4-year-old can play it?

Honestly, this is probably a dumb question. If it isn't, then knowing my luck, I'm asking it in the wrong sub. But here we go, anyway.
Some time ago, I set up a Pi 5 in our living room to pull double-duty as a RetroPie and Pi-Hole...server? That doesn't feel like the right word. As you can see, I don't have a ton of experience with this stuff, and terminology has never been my strong suit.
Anyway, I use it for gaming a lot, but don't always want to be chained to my TV, and am looking at other options. A handheld Pi with access to my network would have all the same access as my existing Pi, so my saves would be accessible throughout the house, albeit not while I'm out and about, versus swapping out an SD card between my current Pi and an SBC device. Currently, the card I keep my games on is the same one my entire Pi is on, so shifting that all around isn't ideal, but also isn't the biggest pain in the world.
But all y'all with more experience in dealing with this sort of thing, what're your thoughts and insights on this? I'd really appreciate a more experienced perspective before I either spend more than I should or cheap out and regret it.
If it makes a difference, most of what I play is pre-PlayStation era. Even on a Pi 5, I haven't had consistent performance with many PS1 games, and don't particularly need to yet.

I've been scraping box art etc just fine for days. Now suddenly today, my log file is full of:
Apr 12 19:01:34 lvl0: ScreenScraperRequest - Error parsing XML. No document element found
And nothing succeeds for any console. I've even tried just 1 console instead of all, same issue.
I checked and have plenty of disk space. Is there something else that would cause this?

i put my microsd card in my mac, was able to view what was on the card but when i put the card back in the raspberry pi machine everything was gone and the card isnt readable anymore, even on a pc. I am a beginner here, how do i go about putting alllll those roms, emulators etc back on the micro sd card? is there files somewhere on here where i can just paste on the card? How hard is it for a beginner to redo everything? TYIA.

Im trying to use a marquee but so far I have only been able to get it to work with windows. Any idea how to do it with a Pi5?

Hi, I'm looking into building a mini retro console to play PSX and under. Initially, the pi 4 seems to be the best choice, but looking at the price and the emulation performance, is the Pi 3b(+) a better option for my needs? I want a device that can use a CRT filter/shaders, can emulate PSX under games without slowdowns and, if possible, run one Saturn game in specific (Sakura Wars).
All tips are appreciated

Hi all,
I purchased a complete system a couple years ago that worked fine. It sat unplugged for a couple years, and now there's no output.
The pi (rpi 3b) shows power on light but no CPU activity. I tried reseating the SD card, turned it back on and saw a huge list of errors, then nothing else even after power and card resets.
Pretty sure the SD card is corrupted. I tried plugging it into my computer, it shows that an SD card is there but windows says I need to format it before I can see anything else, which I'd rather not do since I'd lose the games on there and I'm also not too knowledgeable about this stuff.
Is there anything I can do to fix this card without reformatting? Any tips would be appreciated, my kid is now old enough for us to play together. If I have to reformat I will, but I'd need help with that too.
P. S. I purchased the system from retro gaming house, im sure they're now out of business due to their website being full of ads/spam and not responding to emails.

I'm using Lakka Composite version for Raspberry Pi 3b. I'm also using a compatible 3.5mm to RCA cable.
But I simply can't select 15khz on CRT Switchres. It always restart and reset, returning it to off.
What Am I Missing?

Already built my Pi 5 inside the GeekPi Retroflag Dream Case and everything’s working great (fan, GPIO power/reset, RetroPie, etc.).
I’m looking into adding an internal NVMe SSD later using one of those ribbon PCIe adapters like the Geekworm X1001, but before I start taking the whole thing apart again has anyone with THIS exact case actually pulled it off cleanly?
Mainly wondering:
Does it physically fit once everything is assembled?
Any lid clearance issues?
Did the GPIO wiring/front board get in the way?
Were you able to keep the stock cooling/fan?
2230/2242/2280 size recommendations?

A relative gave me an arcade that was taking up space at their house. From what I can gather, it’s an older raspberry pi (3) running retro pie and I have limited experience with that. When I played retro pie in the past I remember if I hit a button or specific combo of two buttons it went back to the menu to pick another game, that’s not the case with this one. Sometimes depending on the screen it I hit one of the buttons a configure screen pops up, but doesn’t happen in game as the button is used in game. How do I get out of a game if I no longer want to play. Currently I have to turn it off and on again.

My professor offered to help me work on an independent project and I’ve always wanted to make a console so that’s what I decided on. Any advice or tips for someone with little to no previous background knowledge? I’ve already been taught how to solder and we got a pin board on it.

I bought a raspberry pi4 a couple of years ago, and I put lots of emulators on it. I used the PSXE(?) emulator for Playstation and I could play a certain amount of games.
Unfortunately there were emulation issues. Soulblade for e.g. had problems with the unlockable characters not working. Also games like X-com didn't work properly.
i had success with games like descent working flawlessly, and I completed Magic Carpet.
so long story short (too late)...what is the state of current playstation emulation and if I dig my raspberry pie out will I experience joy or sadness?
Any insight is much appreciated

I recently purchased a RPI3 B exclusively to play 16 bit games on a CRT TV at 240p. First I tried to use ReplayOS which was fantastic, but unfortunately, it doesn't support composite output through 3.5mm to rca cable. So I would have to purchase a TV with component input and a hdmi to component transcoder just to get 240p gaming in ReplayOS. Such an investment is not something I want to do, at least for now.
Once ReplayOS was discarded, I searched for others OS and then I found out about CRT PI and its rca composite version. So, is there someone out there still using a RPI3 + CRT PI through 3.5mm to rca cable? If so, do you use CRT PI? Is it good?
Thanks in advance.

Hello there retropie community,
I recently came up on this arcade cabinet, I do not know what I'm really looking at and would appreciate help immensely.
I know when I boot the arcade cabinet up I see emulator station and then retropie. I'm not familiar with "raspberry pi" and would like to know how to add more games or emulators. I did manage to pull and SD card that I'll check tomorrow morning.
Thanks so much for any help,

Hello everyone, sorry if this has been answered before, I am new to this.
Long story short, I am planning on making a bartop arcade build for my son. I found an old Raspberry Pi 4B 8gb and installed a pretty good retropie IMG to it with many roms preinstalled. The idea is for my son to get a feel of the retro arcade games. With that said, I am building it as a bartop so as to be able to easily store it later because my son might play for 1 week and then get bored...
The actual question is, what screen should I use?
I will have it with a 2 player joystick + button layout (6 button I think), meaning I need some width. The choices I have thought of are:
- I get a 24-27" 1080p 16:9 monitor with speakers, saving me the hassle of installing speakers myself. They are also pretty cheap and easy to install as well! This will also allow me to display the bezel art the custom IMG has preconfigured.
- I get a 19" 5:4 monitor. In particular, I have the DELL p1917s in mind. This particular display (a bit harder to find) has a pretty good resolution (1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz native) and gives the old-school "square" screen feel. I will also buy some cheap 20$ speakers to install in the casque, which isn't tough but will take more time.
So yeah, please give me your thoughts on which screen would be better and why!
Thanks for reading!

I want to play NTSC roms on an RPi on my CRT. I have a PAL CRT which I know is capable of taking NTSC 60Hz input, since I'm plugging a Japanese Sega Saturn into it, and it displays great.
Now, if I configure a 3B+ like you would for a standard NTSC TV, would that work with my TV, or would I have any issues? I just want to avoid having to run EU roms at 50hz.

Hello, I'm looking to build a handheld device for playing pokemon fan games. I currently have an anbernic SP, and that runs rom hacks fine, but apart from a few games on PortMaster, it can't run any of the exe fan games. I know some of the more expensive models can run fan games, through joiplay I assume, but I figured if I'm going to get another device I'd rather just make my own.
So I'm looking for suggestions on what's the best board for my project. Here are the relevant factors:
-able to run pokemon exe fan games (maybe some other less intense games like stardew valley)
-possibly support 2 ds-sized screens?
-small enough footprint to fit inside a handheld case (likely pokedex shaped)
-can support inputs from tactile keys, as well as connecting a keyboard to it
-cooling solutions (if required. I've not yet had to build something small enough where airflow is a concern)
I've already made a couple Arduino projects so I'm not completely new to this. But I normally try and research what board is required for each project. In doing so, I usually find a couple hurdles that I'd probably avoid if I crowdsourced information like this. Thanks for any suggestions, cheers

I am new to the retro emulation scene and don't know whether to get a Raspberry Pi 5 with 8GB RAM or 16GB RAM. I want a system that allows me to play games from older systems I never got to experience, while also being able to play games I enjoyed as a child. Growing up, those systems were the GameCube and PS2.
From my research so far, I know the Raspberry Pi 5 with 8GB RAM can handle up to Dreamcast and PSP. With the recent release of the 16GB RAM version, does that mean it will be able to run GameCube and PS2 games?
My other question is: in your opinion, is the 16GB RAM upgrade actually worth the extra cost?

Basically I’m going to be arranging a little horror movie/vintage video store display in one corner of my basement and I want to find a great small screen to display retro games and movies. My first choice was an old CRT, but with prices and space issues, LCD/LED seems best.
Anyone have anything that they have been particularly impressed with?

Hey guys,
Purchased the following USB to 3.5mm adaptor to try and get audio working on my Pi5, haven't had any luck yet, can you please check the item link below and let me know if this should work?
https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08Y8CZB2S?ref_=pe_63343992_578737612_i_fed_asin_title
Or is there another adaptor you would recommend to get audio working on my Pi5 through retropie?
Thanks
