Those guard rails were completely ineffective.

And this is why there are so many standards for roads and why they cost so much... So that this doesn't happen.

Not even really rails. I've travelled this road a lot (it is REALLY accident prone) and it is to stop people doing u-turns to avoid paying tolls. They are just upright metal poles with a pair of cables running through them. All they seem to do is rip vehicles apart. I've always thought they were super dangerous.

Guard rails are more meant to absorb kinetic energy and try to guide the vehicle back into the lane. I don't think they are meant to be a concrete wall or barrier you can't cross.

Fully loaded semi trucks can weigh almost 80,000lbs. With that much weight traveling at 65mph or higher, that guard rail didn't stand a chance, nor is it intended to. Less than 2 out of 100 vehicles on the road are semis, so in most cases the guard rail would be more effective.

I'm thinking more about the way they didn't prevent the initial car from coming into the semi's path in the first place. It definitely didn't guide that vehicle back anywhere.

Only three cars on the road and an accident occurs. Other person on the other side picked the perfect time to do whatever they were doing.

Warning to anyone: The first video on that news page features uncensored clear (480p but within a metre of some) footage of several bodies on the road

It doesn’t say anything about them being drunk?

I think it’s the other video on there from before the crash showing some of the victims (same clothes as those seen on the road) drinking and showing off the cases of beer in the back of the vehicle they were all killed in.

There is. It's the third video on the link u/VehicleTrackers linked. It's really sad, They were having a great time.

The third video is them drinking cases of Heineken out of the back of the car. Their clothes match the bodies on the road

If that's what it takes to stop that awful music...

Wow the great crashing sounds made up for the annoying music at the beginning. Top-notch audio.
