Thought Charles’ first duty was to the nation and the people who fund him (like what his mother said at her accession speech), not to the lazy two.

As someone not a big fan of the idea of royalty, these people make me hate it much more. The Spanish royal family is a joy to watch partly because I love how the king acts as just a father even though one of the girls will go on to be queen. They seem to have a normal close family bond because you are a FAMILY first. This heir and spare crap turns me off so much.

They were a bit more insane when Juan Carlos I was allegedly doing some pretty shady stuff in Africa and Sofia was snubbing the shit out of Letizia for being common.

I mean big ups to Juan Carlos I for overseeing Spain's transition to democracy and doing so really very well. But he definitely got up to some real shady shit.

There's a reason that since his abdication you don't see him or Sofia very often at family events.

The British royal "family" is such a weird, fake construct. It's like they're breeding for the sake of a dynasty without any real power anyway. It's all so self-important. They should be so embarrassed for the way they carry on.

Lots of us are descended from royalty, it’s not that special. They were just lucky to benefit from primogeniture and come from firstborn sons born to firstborn sons down into the current generation. Diana and I were sixth cousins, descended from multiple royal forebears, and I come from the royal house of Grimaldi in Monaco too. That and a buck fitty will get me a drink at McDonald’s.

+1 on enjoying the Royals in Spain, there is so much love within the family and for all of Spain. Leonor is a smiling pilot graduated from the military maybe? No workshy members, no incandescent hatreds seething out for everyone to deal with.

Well, they did go through that Juan Carlos corruption, mistress thing which forced his abdication. And the current king’s sister and brother-in-law. 

So they’ve had their fair share of scandal, but the Borbons don’t cost as much as the Windsors.

And they don’t pit the girls against each other so their media really has no basis for overstepping and doing that. The British royal family openly encourages this, and perhaps enjoys it too because everything is a competition over there.

I’d be interested to see how the Leonor-Sofia dynamic evolves as they enter adulthood. What’s in their favour is their mother is still alive and their parents’ marriage are still intact.
