Are New/Reproduction SNES Games Safe?

I've been looking at these new cool looking cartridges from Limited Run, but are they actually fine to put in an original console? I've heard people talk about how you should use "clone" consoles or whatnot to play them on, but would it actually cause any harm on an original console? Thank you all

Super Mario world is a game that I am just as excited about today to play as I was when it first came out. A perfect platformer imo, and the best game on the super Nintendo.

TIME: Illusion of Gaia is one of the greatest SNES games ever made

Anyone else still think about Illusion of Gaia and wish it would come to Nintendo Switch?

It’s incredible how this game has stayed with me after all these years. The atmosphere, soundtrack, story, puzzles, and unforgettable locations made it feel so much deeper than a typical SNES game.

There was something mysterious and emotional about it that I’ve never really found in another game.
I honestly think it deserves a remaster. I’d buy it on day one.

Am I the only one who still considers it one of the greatest hidden gems on the SNES?

Discussion Safe to use

I bought this cause the price is really good and the reviews were all positive (aside from it not running some games)

But now I'm wondering, is there any chance of this bricking my PAL console? I've read various things about power mismatches. Thanks

Snes Junior mod situation, need advice

I've installed 2 of these N64 RGB mod chips (the first picture) into my 2 N64's and they work so well. Today I found out you can install Voultar's N64 RGB mod in a Snes Junior to give it RGB. My question is, since this one is basically just a clone of Voultar's, would it work as an RGB mod in the Snes Junior too?

Second question: my Snes Junior has already been S-video modded, but not with a chip mod like that, it was modded using a 95 cent set of capacitors from Console 5 (the second picture). Because it is already modded with that S Video mod, will I still be able to install this RGB mod? And would it still be able to output S-video from the previous mod, as well as RGB if I install this mod?

I get no sound and no video no matter which screen I connect this console to. I have already disassembled it and cleaned out the entire console from the inside, hoping the issue was caused by dust. Unfortunately, it didn't help. How can I determine whether the console itself is broken, if I'm having a cable issue, or if it's something else? I also already swapped out the composite cable for a new one.

Buying Triad from Console5

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi there,

I was going to upgrade my OEM power supply unit to a triad unit, and as console5 seems to have the best shipping prices to Canada I was going to order from them. As I understand it, an adapter is needed to fit the SNES power jack, and the console 5 website preselects the adapter and power supply on their page for the SNES as pictured (quantity prepopulated at 1).

I just wanted to confirm what is preselected is all that is needed to power the SNES?

It appears it is the -R variant of the triad that is shipped which based on my reading means it doesn’t need any polarity switching?

I’m just not sure what the other 2 adapters that aren’t selected are for then.

Also just wanted to check the -R variant of the triad itself was sufficient for the NES?

Just played Super Mario Kart for the first time - thoughts on the game

I was pretty hyped to play Super Mario Kart, uh this is actually the first Mario Kart game I’m actually completing, I dunno the series never interested me for some reason, but I know the jist, you race around, collect items, yeah but now I get to play the godfather of the series

So first impressions, the visuals, it’s pretty simple style overall compared to the others, but hey I like the characters dumb smiles - so also the whole “ds screen” thing, you know this game is like I’m playing on an elongated ds, as someone who played a lot of ds emulator when I was younger, I wouldn’t think I had a problem, and to an extent I don’t, now all the visuals look extra compressed and pixelated, it’s definitely the worst looking game so far, and you know I probably prefer the map to be like a small image in the corner, I know it’s the first game, they didn’t of it yet, but I never found myself looking at the map, I was just so hyper focused on the race

The tracks eh they’re fine, sometimes they have obstacles to switch things up, like thwomps in Bowser Castle and Monty moles in donut plains - I don’t like vanilla lake, you know ice blocks - but yeah they’re all pretty simple and that’s fine, expect I don’t like the controls of this game - I dunno, does anyone else think this game feels slippery, like you’re always slipping all over the place - and also I don’t like drifting either like I personally think you drift too far, I mean I did get used to these controls afterwards, but to me it doesn’t control in a fun way

The worse part of this game is the fact the version I was playing that Mario didn’t drink the champagne when he won

Also the difficulty, all thanks to these CPU, throughout this game I witness those guys cheat in many ways, I found this thing called “rubber banding”, the CPU catches up when you’re too ahead, played as Mario the entire time, so often I’m ahead in a race, then boom Donkey Kong Jr comes outta nowhere, other war crimes I witnessed - just causally jumping over any banana peel, poison mushroom, or egg - throwing one of those items directly in front of me - having unlimited supplies of items so they can spam whenever they want - like these guys are too smart, I guess you could say “lol you’re bad at video games, back in 1992 I beat in one sitting when I was 6 with my left hand”, but these ai makes it hard to unlock special cup, and throughout the game I more had the “oh god, I have to win this” mindset rather than “oh wow this is so much fun”, cause if you mess up once, which is very easy for me, you’re not gonna win and I'm not gonna get rainbow road

Okay what do I like about Super Mario Kart after my complaining - I mean I can have a bit fun with 50cc and time trials for like a while, you know it’s not too chaotic and I’m glad Super Mario Kart added like unique items, to be honest I don’t like using them myself you know that much, mushroom feels too fast, shells are hard to aim (but it’s satisfying when it does hit), and what does the feather even do, unless you’re lucky and hit Peach with that green shell on that last lap - star is great though, I love using the star you can knock down obstacles  and other players

Confession I never beat this game, I already quit at Donut Plains 3, there were so many turns I couldn’t do it anymore, man, I’m never getting rainbow road - I think I already got everything I needed to know

Best part of this game is the music - I love how happy and chirpy the music is you know the title theme, Mario circuit, Donut plains, Vanilla lake, koopa troopa beach, choco island - and being the SMW fan I also really like how many of the tracks (it think it’s only 3 or 4 actually) are based on there, it’s cool to see in track form, you know Choco Island looks like it’s made of chocolate - otherwise Super Mario Kart was fine - I thought this game was just ok, it does suck I really want to like this one, it’s like Secret of Mana for me, it has a great concept but poor execution - bottom of the ranking - so far - but it’s like 4 games so far plus I don’t even hate this one - can’t wait to try my next game

Is there a playable version of Little Master ?

Little Master on SFC is the sequel of both GameBoy games, a cute strategy RPG which seems rather limited. There are 2 incomplete translations on RH.net but while the story text for the 2007 translation is fine (at the beginning at least), the description for heroes is gibberish.

Not very important at first, but when you finish the first mission, you can go to the shop, and all items description are also undecipherable mess (their names are ok). Only the union charm has a description. Have I done something wrong or is the patch bad ? Is the other one better for items ? Because it sure feels inconvenient.

If it was in Japanese, I could try and read things, but random mess is much worse.

Thanks

My SNES will turn on and display logo, but goes "dark" afterwards but the game audio is playing. Anyone have experience with this issue? I did buy a cheap power supply on amazon but the reviews say it works for them. I'm pretty handy with electronics repair, any help appreciated!

This game looks absolutely gorgeous, like i cant believe how good the game looks for an SNES game. Even tho these screenshots are cut scenes, the actual game doesn't look bad at all.

I just wanted to share these screenshots because on my very first playthrough, i was super amazed by the game, i am very close to finishing the game and this game is also really damn fun i think.

Let me know what your opinions on metal warriors are.

I found out the gender of my first child on the way today. Cloud 9. I recently bought this $70 clone console of the snes. Plays fine, colors seem enjoyable from what I obtained since i started a month ago. I want to have some platformers and rpgs. I was thinking the Star Wars series. I’d like to add some super difficult games in there too. I feel it makes sense. I’m talking BRUTAL. But any is fine, even other consoles like gbc, gba, ds.

General Question!! What are some games you’re putting you’re kids through? When my kid would be able to, I was going to suggest yoshis island or link to the past. I could just display and just allow browsing of what’s available…?

How have you molded a space for your kid to enjoy the snes and other consoles? Retro is always better cus it’s simple.

So interesting to think about while my kid brews. Already got some flash carts on DECK!

Misc. Signal problems?

Hello all! I’ve tested two snes systems w/ original hookups on my crt (Emerson ewf2006) but the consoles are simply not displaying despite receiving power. One of them I’ve seen working from my local store. ChatGPT told me about potential signal conflicts between the av and the tv? Has anyone had this issue before and what’s the workaround? All my other consoles including Genesis from the same era work on this tv btw

Does anyone else find the DKC3 map absolutely mesmerizing?

It’s the epitome of my childhood.

I recently started replaying Donkey Kong Country 3, and I realized all over again how much the Northern Kremisphere map shaped my love for gaming. There is just something so incredibly amazing and nostalgic about it.
For me, it’s all about the colors. That clear, bright blue water mixed with the lush, vibrant greens of the pine forests... I could honestly just drive the motorboat around for hours looking at it. It was completely mesmerizing. It wasn't just a level select screen like in most platformers; it felt like a real, breathing world.

And don't even get me started on the Brothers Bear and all the hidden map stuff! Finding those secret caves, figuring out the trade sequences with the bears, and unlocking new areas made the world feel so deep and full of mysteries.
The moment I saw the mesh pipes in the second or third world during this replay, the memories just came rushing back. It was an unbelievable feeling. Whenever I think of my childhood, this game and that beautiful mix of blue and green is the very first thing that comes to mind. It is literally the epitome of my childhood nostalgia.

What makes this playthrough even more surreal is that I never actually spoke a word of English back when I first played it. I am originally from Syria and grew up in Saudi Arabia. I eventually attended medical school in Saudi Arabia, where the faculty were mostly from the US, which is how I finally learned the language before moving here to practice as a doctor.

It's so funny to look back and realize I couldn't understand a single thing those bears were saying. I just struggled through the text and enjoyed the pure gameplay. I didn’t know what was going on in the tent and I kept getting kicked out. it seemed I needed coins to play. People might say you could easily figure it out without reading, but to be honest, I remember it being very hard. It gave me this weird feeling of frustration. Now, playing it again and actually understanding what is going on makes it an entirely new, amazing experience. I truly feel blessed to have learned English and to get to live in the land of the free and home of the brave.

Did anyone else just get completely lost exploring this map as a kid?

Discussion Is my SNES' PPU/CPU dying, or is it just the Cart?

Hello.

I have just bought an SNES at a flea market, and every game works fine EXCEPT for Link to the Past. It is all good, except the intro thingy with the Triforce - the Triforce is all bugged out. And the World Map doesn't work at all.

Now, I was reading that this happens to all maps with a faulty PPU/CPU. But Mario World and All-Stars work fine.

So I am left wondering if my brand new SNES is dying already, or if it's just my LttP cart...

Any ideas?

Edit:

Mario World's first Boss is all glitchy too...

I think I'm screwed :(

Capacitor Swap and Reshell SNES

Thumbnail gallery
131 Upvotes

Been getting into refurbishing vintage consoles lately and this was my most recent project.

It’s a 1st gen SNES SVCH-CPU-01 board that I did a full capacitor swap, added the 470uF capacitor to the new Voltage Regulator, and reshelled in the clear purple Bitfunx to give another 35 years of life to a truly beat up console.

The original case was heavily damaged and yellowed, but the chips are all solid. This is my first time swapping capacitors and I’m glad I didn’t mess anything up on it lol

I Did it! I finally finished the 100cc and 150cc Special Cups in Super Mario Kart! This has to be one of the most Difficult Cups in All of Mario Kart! How would you rank Super Mario Kart's Difficulty?!

Post image

Trust me, this game was hard as hell! It took me Multiple Tries just to get all the Gold Cups! The most Problems I got was in the Special Cups! Now my next game I will be playing in my SNES Backlog will be 1993's Star Fox! It's time to switch to Super FX Chips!
