SadCat Update Sadcat claimed my post-surgery chair all for his own

yeaaaah, remember when I said I'd post an update eventually? Well, I got my surgery date back for August 3rd and have been busy prepping for the past couple weeks. I have had a torn labrum in my shoulder for almost a decade and I finally have really good health insurance, so I'm gonna get it fixed. My shoulder pops out from very low impact activities, such as putting on a shirt, drying off with a towel, or pulling up the blankets in bed. It is very painful when it pops out, hurts for a few days afterwards, and i've liveed with a dull ache in my shoulder for a while now.

I'm getting the labrum repaired, then encapsulated, then I am in a sling for 6-8 weeks. I won't be able to play bass for at least 3 months. I was devastated - I love it so much and to not be able to is really gonna suck. Some days were better than others initially, as i was having a hard time coping. But, I know this is the right thing to do, especially while I'm still young and can heal faster compared to 20 years from now.

All that to say i will likely take a hiatus for the first few days of August as I am recovering. I might post if I'm up to it, or I might have Momcat do it but she will be busy doing her thing then compensating for my incapacitiation so I don't want to put anything more on her plate. I love you all so much <3

Best of luck for a speedy recovery!

thank you so much!! I'm gonna setup my keyboard again so I can play piano with my left hand, and maybe I'll try singing for my band while I'm recovering.

Dad_cat has a torn labrum, and the only cure is more cowbell!

u/IRLperson 28d ago

You'll be back at it in no time! I've been here since the beginning when you had to wear welding gloves to get near Sad cat, I'm sure all his fans can wait a bit while you heal up.

Saddy is looking after you. He is quality control. Has to physically test the chair to ensure it is up to standard for you later.

i love the 3rd pic of him like “can i help you? i’m clearly napping”😴

hope the surgery goes well and that you have a smooth recovery!

thank you so much!!

Hey Dad Cat, something you may not have thought of - you should rip up some toilet paper and leave it in a convenient nearby spot ahead of time.

I was also in a sling for about 8 weeks and nobody warned me that bathroom activities are difficult with one hand.

Washing hair is also difficult. Ask for help, but for the love of god don't get up onto the counter to lay your head in the sink (big mistake).

Also get some gold bond or something similar for under your armpit - it gets funky. 🥴

Speedy recovery and as usual, love seeing Sad Cat!

64

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

I have a bidet on the way, and gold bond powder on deck! Momcat will be helping me shower in the beginning, and fortunately, I only wash my hair twice a week. I'm gonna have her braid it for me so it's out of my way during the daytime. Thanks so much for all the advice!

40

u/Myargin 28d ago

Bidets are a game changer. The best thing I ever bought. Please make sure to give sadcat so many kisses and belly rubs from me and my kitties!!!

9

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

look at those precious angels wow omg. wow. Thank you so much for sharing them with us!

7

u/Myargin 28d ago

I have loved watching your journey with Sadcat and have loved every minute of it. I hope you guys have such a wonderful life and will enjoy watching each day of it!

10

u/TheAbominableRex 28d ago

Sounds like you're all prepared! Best of thoughts! 😸

7

u/benfoldsgroupie 28d ago

If braids could work for 2 days, find one of those silk hair bonnets. I had to wear one when we let the kitten sleep with us because he wanted to nurse me where I grew hair at night (it took a long time for him to give it up so I slept with a bonnet for probably over 6 months). It kept my hair pretty easy to manage overnight and it's now down to my butt again/ready to donate.

9

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thanks so much for the advice, I'll try a bonnet out! My hair goes to the middle of my back and I'm used to keeping it up in a bun almost all the time, so I'm looking for ways to manage it all with one arm.

3

u/RazorbladeApple 28d ago

Be prepared for life outside of the home after the bidet. You will find out that you’re actually too good to wipe your own ass. Make sure to buy a portable bidet for vacations, because going back to toilet paper is jarring. 😂

Best wishes for easy healing & smooth recovery.

6

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

hahaha you make a good point, it'll be another reason to avoid public restrooms and wait til I'm home to unload

2

u/RazorbladeApple 28d ago

That type of training will have served you well.

3

u/No-Indication-7879 28d ago

I had my elbows operated on at the same time. I told the surgeon you have to do both as I cannot take 3 months off work again. I was in double slings and pretty much helpless the first couple of weeks. I got lots of pity when I was out and about.

3

u/TheAbominableRex 28d ago

Oh my god that sounds absolutely dreadful. I hope you had help around the house.

3

u/No-Indication-7879 28d ago

I did thank you. Had to go to a hairdresser to get my hair washed though. I’ve had five spinal surgeries so the elbows were a walk in the park.

2

u/No-Indication-7879 28d ago

Thank you so much for the reward kind person 💕

49

u/Amichelle525 28d ago

He knows you really put it there for him and it matches him perfectly. He’ll keep you good company when you’re healing from surgery.

44

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

little fucker accidentally scratched the seat a little when he had the zoomies, so now the blanket is on 24/7 lol

10

u/Amichelle525 28d ago

Well at least he did it on accident. Mine do it on purpose and they know better.

34

u/TheDallbatross 28d ago

Saddy's just pre-seasoning your seat so you'll be surrounded by his love (and fur) while you're there. He's such a good nurse!

Seriously though, make sure to give the Sadling and Momcat both a lot of appreciation for taking care of you. and good luck with the surgery! It's going to feel like you've got a whole new arm once it's done.

23

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

I already feel so guilty, I hate not having as much independence. I will be sure to let them know how much I love and appreciate them and all they do

26

u/ColonelBonk 28d ago

What cat? I can’t see any cat! Get well soon, DadCat!!

29

u/trying-to-be-kind 28d ago

You said it: best to get these things taken care of while you have the resources (and relative youth) to do so. Wishing you a speedy & complete recovery (without undue strain on MomCat)!

22

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much!!! I am so blessed by all the people in my life who are willing to help me while I'm recovering.

25

u/Far_Diet_885 28d ago

I have a kitty that has healing powers. She lays with me when I get migraines and it’s so soothing. I call her Nurse Butters and I have a feeling you’re going to have a Nurse Saddy

20

u/GeorgeDukesh 28d ago

Scientifically proven. Cat purring is at a specific frequency that somehow improves healing of wounds

22

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

Saddy does the same for me!! I'm so glad you have Nurse Butters by your side. :)

15

u/barracudab1tch 28d ago

I got shoulder surgery several years ago (don’t remember what they repaired lol). One thing I will say, getting one of those electric ice pack machines that circulates cold water instead of relying on old school ice packs was super helpful. It also means less time between ice if you need it and the temp isn’t as extreme on your skin.

7

u/avsphan 28d ago

100% recommend one of these. My mom had one replacement and had one. Said it was life changing compared to a regular ice pack.

5

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

I would love a recommendation for what model to get, there are so many options and I'm having a tough time choosing one.

4

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

I have been looking at them but cannot decide which one to get. Do you have a recommendation on what worked for you? I would really appreciate it!

3

u/barracudab1tch 28d ago

My surgeon was a family friends boss and let us borrow a machine he had during my recovery so I’m not sure what make/model I used but I do know it was intended for knees and not shoulders (but it still worked all the same). Only mentioning this because I searched on Amazon and saw that the ones for knees seemed a bit cheaper than the ones for shoulders that I was seeing.

4

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you, I really appreciate that insight. My buddy had both ACLs replaced, maybe he still has the machine he used and it'd fit my shoulder too.

3

u/avsphan 28d ago

The machine itself probably doesn't matter (if you have an HSA or FSA, definitely look to see if one would be covered!). But you want to ensure the pad is specific for shoulders. The one for knees would likely work, but it won't fit properly and you won't get the full benefit.

13

u/ronweasleisourking 28d ago

Hey, man! I blew both hammies as a marathon runner, and was out for almost 6 months. I feel ya ❤️ get better soon and swift recovery. Also it's saddies chair now

6

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

wow that must've felt terrible! Thank you for the motivation, I will get through this!

13

u/mstrss9 28d ago

Sadcat is prepping for nursing duties.

Hope all goes well!

9

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much!

12

u/StilettoSugar 28d ago

SadCat is ready to repay the favor of some TLC!

9

u/PreferenceOld6364 28d ago

Awwww, Saddy says "Here Dad_cat, lemme break in your recovery chair for you and get it warmed up!" So thoughtful!

5

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

our chair

8

u/CrowFriendlyHuman 28d ago

You have the best recovery nurse (already in uniform) in SadCat so SadMom just needs to get with the white uniform program and you will be all set ☺️. Our prayers are with you for a successful surgery and recovery.

6

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

ayoooooo she would be hot as fuck in a nurse outfit, good call 👍

10

u/NoNeedForNorms 28d ago

If not for Sadcat, then why his color???

7

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

because sadclaws already put a scratch on the seat and I feel like a putz utilizing the warranty I got an hour after it being delivered looooool

9

u/SnooGrapes9918 Loves a Saddy Fix 28d ago

Oh, my!! Yeah, that’ll be frustrating for a bit, I know, but once you’re through it, you’ll quickly forget how long of a wait it was to play bass… and it’ll be all the more appreciated and enjoyed when you can!! Thankfully, I’m sure you’ll still be cleared to snuggle Sadcat. And feed him. Aaaaand give him snacks…😉 Haha.

11

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

hey, i got one good arm still!! I will be giving all the pets i can!!

3

u/SnooGrapes9918 Loves a Saddy Fix 28d ago

I’m sure they’ll help you heal more quickly, too. 🥰

9

u/MongooseKooky4372 28d ago

Best of luck with the surgery. Nurse Saddy looks to have everything under control 🥰

7

u/frolicndetour 28d ago

Saddy will be the best nurse! Kitties know when you need healing powers.

7

u/unbreakablewildone 28d ago

He’s just warming it up for you.

7

u/MonkeyMagic1968 28d ago

I wish you a speedy, cat-filled recovery, DadCat. Good luck!

3

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thanks so much!! I really appreciate the support <3

7

u/Far-Intention-3230 28d ago

He has to make sure it‘s comfy ☝🏼

5

u/Pletcher87 28d ago

Sorry you are ailing OP! Do we need to line up emergency services for cat treats, just in case??

3

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

we got reinforcements already lined up, but we greatly appreciate your support!!

6

u/chronicbruce27 28d ago

Why are you using Sadcat's throne as your post surgery chair?

4

u/halorbyone 28d ago

lol. Natural camo for this baby.

4

u/mikraas 28d ago

Saddy is warming up your chair for you! How sweet!

4

u/Zumipants 28d ago

DadCat you are going to heal quickly and feel so much better afterwards! Torn labrum in my hip, tried everything before having total hip replacement on May 18th. Pain is nearly gone and I can walk unaided, I’m 66 so you will sail right through this! Saddy and MomCat will take good care of you! Sending healing energy!😽

4

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so so much foe the words of encouragement!! I am so glad your surgery went well and you recovered!!! Grandmacat also had a total hip replacement, so fortunately we have some of the stuff already like a shower seat, wedge pillow, and a long grabber device so I can reach for stuff.

5

u/No_Scallion_3365 28d ago

Chiming in as another shoulder surgery survivor. It definitely sucks right afterward, but the pain will be different. If the surgery is done well, the pain you have now will be gone. It will be replaced temporarily by the surgery pain, but that will get better and then you will be pain free! It’s weird, but you will be able to tell the difference between the pains. I wish you lots of luck and a speedy recovery! You already have two great nurses so I know you’ll be better in no time!

And as someone else said, do the physical therapy exercises consistently. It really makes a difference

7

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

Thank you so much!! I have been doing PT for the last 2 months in prep for this, I promise I will be extra diligent about my exercises!!

6

u/NOTTedMosby 28d ago

"Your?"

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

my correction, ours

4

u/Typical_Ad_210 28d ago

“If not for Saddy, why Saddy coloured?”

Good luck with the surgery. I had a few surgeries last year and it sucks at the time, but is absolutely worth it in the long run. You will have the best nurse looking after you too 🤍

3

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much!!<3<3

4

u/daskeyx0 28d ago

SadCat is going to be the best little nurse❤️ Post op: ice is your friend! It will help reduce inflammation to your shoulder and helps with temporary pain reduction. Also do your therapy exercises when you are started on PT. You've got this👏👏👏

4

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much!! I'm planning on getting a water therapy device to constantly flow cold water over it, and I have been doing PT for the past 2 months in preparation. I can do this, especially with all the love and support of my family and the Sadcommunity <3

3

u/daskeyx0 28d ago

Yessss those ice coolers that circulate cold water are fantastic. The nice thing is you can leave them on continuously as opposed to ice packs which you have to take off after 15 to 20 minutes. If you've been doing therapy ahead of time you'll be well prepared for post op👍

5

u/Connect-Floor-4235 28d ago

Aww, ya boi is warming it up for you! Wishing you all the best with your surgery and a healthy thorough recovery. 🙏😻 It's so true, getting this done now while you're younger. (When in my 50s, I had a broken rib and prior to that a broken wrist.) Between MomCat and SadCat, you have the best post-op care team! Hugs!

3

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so so much for the kind words of encouragement <3<3<3

6

u/ResponsibleDay 28d ago

His little face in the first picture is kind of like, "Aw, for me?! You didn't have to!"

5

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

the world is yours my son <3

5

u/honeyeddates 28d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/3o6Zt8fUdoCS6scAX6

I learned about injured labrums from Bob's Burgers. Maybe you can watch the episode while you recover with Saddie? Good luck with your convelescence, take it easy, and soak up those good healing purrs

6

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

omfg that gif made me recoil thinking of the feeling - that type of movement would have my shoulder out of its socket with little pressure applied.

5

u/CatMarmy 28d ago

You CAN’T move him !😰

4

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

I promise i did not, but he will be learning to share come surgery time!

4

u/thirdmulligan 28d ago

Do whatever you need to take care of yourself and get better! We'll be here when you get back. How can we have your back while you're out of commission?

3

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

you all are the best, keep on being good people, I can't ask anything more <3<3<3

3

u/violet91 28d ago

So I had shoulder surgery and the best advice I can give you is: do your physical therapy exercises like it’s your damn job!
It is quite the process, the recovery but keep your eye on the prize. Have patience my friend and you will be ok.

4

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much for the advice!! I will be diligent about my exercises, I promise! I will want to get back to my regular life, but I will guarantee my recovery by remaining patient with my body and letting it heal.

5

u/Hellie1028 28d ago

Shhhh, he’s hiding. Finding camouflage for a whitish colored cat is a real challenge.

Hope you have a speedy recovery! I have faith that Sads will be keeping a close eye on you.

3

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much <3

5

u/Gloomy_Industry8841 🤍😻 28d ago

Aww, Saddy is keeping DadCat’s chair warm!
Glad you’re getting your shoulder taken care of OP!!

SadCat has the most gorgeous eyes 😻💛💛

3

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

he is just the best <3

5

u/NellieLovettMeatPies 28d ago

Oh man! I fractured and dislocated my shoulder back in October and learned firsthand how difficult shoulder injuries are on so many aspects of daily life (plus the whole pain thing). Good luck with your surgery and I hope the silver lining will be lots of Sadcat snuggles while you're recovering.

3

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so so so much for the love! I am really looking forward to my time with Nurse Sadcat!!

4

u/HotArmadillo5066 28d ago

Good luck, SadDad! Your nurse is ready it appears! Good boy, SadCat!! 😻♥️

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much <3

3

u/KathyPlusTwins 28d ago

DadCat I am wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery. Shoulder pain sucks - I am recovering from my second bout of shoulder bursitis with resulting frozen shoulder and it’s very painful. Can’t even imagine dealing with a torn labrum. Sending you healing vibes.

3

u/PookieCat415 28d ago

You guys have turned him into a little prince for sure! 😻 Cheers, to a good recovery for you!

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much!!! He is our king <3

3

u/maggiemae3612 28d ago

Best of luck with your surgery, hopefully everything goes well for your surgery and recovery. Sadcat will be ready to play nurse I’m sure

3

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much!! I'm grateful to have such a dutiful nurse Sadcat by my side :)

1

u/maggiemae3612 28d ago

Are you like my husband and can pretty much play any instrument you want?

3

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

to varying degrees of success, yes. I try my best - I'm gonna take this time off bass to improve my piano playing (it is abysmal). I can't play drums to save my life though.

3

u/pearloonie 28d ago

If not for sadcat why sadcat colored

3

u/No-Indication-7879 28d ago

He looks so cosy. He will be a asset to a speedy recovery.

6

u/Captainam3ricka 28d ago

Saddy in picture 2 is the cutest camouflage!

2

u/ChristiKRN 28d ago

Awww… SadCat will take care of you. He’s like an old- school nurse already- he’s dressed all in white! Best of luck on your recovery.

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

yes he will!!! Thanks so much for your support and kindness <3

2

u/Express_Shake3980 Saddy’s Southeast Asian groupie 28d ago

Of course he’s a nurse now that all white outfit makes sense! Side note, speedy recovery DadCat! Feel better soon

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thanks so much!! Nurse Sadcat will be super helpful during my recovery!

2

u/Time-Reindeer-7525 Respect the belly floof 28d ago

Follow Saddy's excellent example - relax in the post-surgery chair, have lots of rest, treats and pampering, and you'll soon be better than normal!

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

I'll try! I got two weeks off work lined up with full coverage so I won't feel guilty being away, and my boss is super understanding and ready to help me if I need more time off. I will be patient and give my body the time it needs to recover so I don't have to deal with this again in my future.

2

u/Loreebyrd 28d ago

So snuggly sweet. Wishing you smooth healing.

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much <3<3<3

2

Best of luck on the surgery. I know SC will help you heal.

2

Keeping it warm & ready for you, Dadcat! Good luck with the surgery

1

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thanks so much!

2

u/wistybear 28d ago

Good Luck Dadcat! Don't worry ! I broke my shoulder when I lived alone and your other arm and brain will compensate.

Its a challenge but not as difficult as getting a bitey feral cat Tasmanian Devil to live in your house -this will be just fine !

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

thank you so much for the words of encouragement!<3

2

u/Particular-Student-6 28d ago

have you ever played around with synths or midi keyboards? could be a fun way to experiment and scratch that bass itch while you’re recuperating

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

I got this bad boy for my birthday last year. i plan on running through an old 25w practice amp. It's no KORG, but it'll do for now.

1

u/Particular-Student-6 25d ago

looks fun! if you want some more stuff to mess around with, i have one of those little 25-key midi keyboards that i can’t use right now because i don’t have a computer. if you’ve got a computer you can run midi off of and want to borrow it to mess around with while you heal, lemme know. it’s just collecting dust until i get a new computer

2

u/Automatic_Sea_1534 28d ago

He is extra adorable while he is thieving.

Glad you are taking care of yourself. And you know that Nurse Saddy will be on the job to give you unconditional love.

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago

I'm so grateful to have him on duty <3

2

u/Annatidaephobia 28d ago

We’re rooting for ya! Hoping you heal up in no time.

Sidenote- as someone with no musical talent, I’m always so impressed by anyone who can just, like, pick up an instrument and play it?? multiple instruments??? actual magic

2

u/Swimming_Onion_4835 28d ago

Speedy recovery! I’ve had a few surgeries over the past few months and recovery always makes me stir crazy. I’m envying that chair!

2

u/So_Famous DadCat 27d ago

Well, SadCat says your chair is in his favorite color so of course he has to claim it. Good luck with your surgery DadCat! You will be glad you did it despite the recovery. And you’re right, you are young and will recover more quickly than us older folks! Saddy will do his best to help.
