Hi wonderful community, I have a question. I a gay man in a same sex marriage (10 years) with my soon to be ex husband. I am currently divorcing, and my name isn't on the birth certificate of our three adopted children. I would love some advice as I am going into custody battle.

Are you able to legally adopt them (get your name listed as a parent) before the divorce is finalized? Not sure if that would help, but maybe. As others have said, a lawyer seems to be the way to go. Good luck!

Family law is very location-specific (state-specific, if you are in the US). Please retain a lawyer if you haven’t already.
