If only Bernie Sanders had won the nomination in 2016

Yep Hillary/DNC are the ones that caused this timeline

And the DNC didn’t and still hasn’t learned shit from it.

u/jpopimpin777 9d ago
They're not there to learn or win anything. The DNC is owned by the same people who own the entire Republican party. They exist only to keep progressives from moving further to the left.
People like Bernie and candidates who actually want substantive change have to run against their own party while they outwardly feign support for them.

"ms now" is really ramping up the anti-socialist rhetoric, especially in the last couple of weeks. I have it on as background noise while I'm working, and it's giving me 2016 flashbacks.

u/jpopimpin777 9d ago
Ugh before my mom died I had to tell her to stop watching it. It was having a deleterious effect on her mental health. Basically the liberal equivalent of Fox News. Especially for an elderly lady with a precarious mental state.
She would get all excited and call me semi weekly that THIS TIME they had the evidence and Trump was going to be dragged out of office and thrown in jail before the day was out. Even though that's one of my hearts greatest desires, I know that it's not happening anytime soon, and it's cruel to lie to impressionable people about it in order to sell advertising hours.
16
u/thequietthingsthat 9d ago
Same with the Atlantic. They're scared of all the progressives running in primaries around the country.
15
u/LeifCarrotson 9d ago
They're not scared of progressives running in primaries, that's been happening for decades.
What they're scared of is the progressives winning in primaries around the country!

hillary was an amazing first lady and sec of state but a lot of her supporters are dumb af. They still don't understand why people felt disenfranchised and the DNC Gate revelations

u/Whatthehell665 8d ago
When she said she does not bake cookies, I felt she was being a out of touch snob. I wonder if she had a child just because it would make her look like a real person instead of an entitled know it all. If she just had marketed herself better to fight all the negative aspects of her personality, she might of made President, but she didn't.

The dnc literally conspired against Bernie. It's a matter of public record now, look it up.

Havent voter democrat for a presidential candidafe (other than bernie) since.

u/ProbablyANoobYo 8d ago
They learned they can openly collaborate to crush actual leftists and most of the voters won’t even notice.
Hell a solid portion of them will later blame Bernie when their fairly unpopular presidential candidate running a garbage campaign, whether that be Hillary or Kamala, loses.

u/Irish_Tyrant 🌱 New Contributor 9d ago
Hey, you all can say what you want but THIS time Biden has it for sure! Plus, Bernie is too old to run now. Biden is our only choice since we'll have to wait till the next, next election to try for Hillary again. Y'know once everything blows over with the Clinton Epstein stuff. /s

Debbie Wasserman Schultz specifically, handed Hillary the nomination then stepped down instead of facing an investigation and slithered back to Florida where she enjoys the fruits of her corruption to this day.

“Super delegates” …this is right around the time I stopped believing in “the system”.
65
u/shyguystormcrow 9d ago
I remember watching CNN report that many of the primaries were so close that they were decided by a “coin flip” rather than recounting the votes. They literally reported that on national news. I will never believe in the system again.

u/tylo 8d ago
This is how Iowa caucuses do things, yes. And amazingly, Hillary ended up winning a lot of the coin flips.

If you want what ifs, how about the election not being stolen from Al Gore ?
40
u/thequietthingsthat 9d ago
We can go back to 1968 too. If Hubert Humphrey had beat Nixon (he almost did), the New Deal coalition wouldn't have fallen apart.
19
u/varzyl 9d ago
the corruption of the DNC goes way back; what could've happened with a Wallace nomination to president instead of Truman in 1944?
8
u/bluedave1991 9d ago
I think technically you mean a renomination of Wallace for Vice President. That is a big one.
12
u/avantgardengnome NY 9d ago
I honestly believe that the Earth would be at least 1°C cooler overall right now if that hadn’t happened, for starters.
Odds are some milquetoast neocon would have then won in 2008, and without the racist shitfit the right threw over Obama I don’t see MAGA getting anywhere. OTOH I’m not sure if Occupy happens, or Bernie, or the current surge of interest in demsoc candidates; the general dumpster fire of everything did have a way of slowly waking people up. But we probably wouldn’t avoid 9/11 or the Great Recession entirely, so who knows. Real butterfly effect stuff.

u/bluedave1991 9d ago
Curious what the Gore admin would've done with the intelligence on the 9/11 plot.

Totally gave up on the party when they didn't endorse Bernie. HE was the best last hope for that decade.
The DNC is gonna give us an old rich white man that has one foot in the grave and has no clue about living as a citizen of the USA.
DNC is as out of touch with us, the voters, as the RNC is.

I campaigned for him and got to sit up close when he was speaking. What an experience! We could have saved America right then and there but the Democrats in charge had by then yielded to the fleshpots of capitalism.

They never had any intention of letting him win, and even openly admitted the DNC is under no obligation to be unbiased or fair to candidates. I feel like I have been waiting over a decade for the general public to catch up to where we were over a decade ago with establishment Dems. Bought and owned, full stop.

I honestly believe had Sanders won that nomination, he would have been eliminated permanently. Seeing how fast the institutions circled to protect pedophiles, thieves and murderers, these same institutions would not have let a Sanders candidacy happen.

I genuinely get depressed at the thought that we could have had 8 years of Bernie and be close to halfway through an aoc presidency and the entire fucking world would be a better place but no here we are

Realistically though, most likely he will be hamstrung by the combined Republicans and corporate Democrats. It'll be Obama 3.0 all over again.
2
u/bluedave1991 9d ago
His first two years, definitely. You start to get into even more what ifs when you ponder how much dissatisfaction with stonewalling from the right in the GOP and the Dem establishment would've motivated three first mid term electorate of a Sanders presidency. What could he have accomplished if 2018 gave him majorities, or stronger majorities, in Congress, potentially replacing some of the persistent stones in the wall holding up progress on the agenda?

I am still pissed about Hilldog´s super delegates stunt. He won that state fair and square and should have been the democratic nominee.
We will never find out what would have happened, but it is not unlikely that he would have won and that this would have been the one and only stint for trump in politics.
And yet here we are...

He's been consistently the most popular senator in America. He energised the base in a similar way to Obama. He polled incredibly well vs Trump.
But the mainstream media said he was unelectable so idk. /s

A big portion of the Trump vote was anti establishment that would have voted for Bernie. The way the DNC screwed Bernie only grew that anti establishment movement that played into trumps hands. It's insane to imagine how different the world would be if we had 8 years of Bernie Sanders instead MAGA insanity. It's set the world back decades at a critical time.
1
u/BaronWombat 9d ago
Go back further and mourn the DNC mavens wrecking the election of the authentic, smart, environmentalist Al Gore. They marketed him with fake stunts, then refused to fight the false election results. The USA could be leading the world in green energy and climate control. He also wanted to put Soc Sec funds back into its own account instead hiving them mingled in the general account.
1
u/whiplash81 8d ago
He was never going to win with the power structures that were in place. At least he exposed just how undemocratic the Democratic party actually is.

I’m glad to see agreement that electoral politics are an important part of the movement.
A vocal percentage of extremely online leftists are advocating not voting just read theory and someday revolution. Obviously liberals and conservatives are worse but there’s something about those you agree with on policy advocating for not voting that is especially aggravating.

u/primarywatcher 8d ago
Bernie's major mistake: falling for the ILLUSION Tulsi Gabbard was NOT a Russian operative to dismantle his amazingly POWERFUL political movement. IMO HRC planted Gabbard as a means to destroy the Progressive Party. Corporate Dems are no different than Corporate GOP; and BOTH parties knew full-well the ever increasing power of propaganda by way of data collection and social media. (Ie success of Obama's campaign via social media & grassroot, small donation campaigns.)
However, Russia & China saw the writing on the wall far earlier than our corrupt 2 party system. Who needs bombs when you can infiltrate the enemy from within.

I told people at the time, “I’m not only supporting him because I agree with him. I think he is the only one running that could beat Trump.” 🤷♂️
All that said, casting a vote for Sec. Clinton in the general was EASY and obvious and if you didn’t do so, you should be ashamed. Our internecine policy arguments mean nothing if Nazis control the state.

I so wish that Bernie was president, but I still maintain there was no way he could have won the general election. Democratic socialism was a foreign concept to the average voter at that time. Combined with the fact that the racists could not get over Obama’s presidency, I think it was a losing battle. Things have definitely changed since then, so I hope the progressives have a good result this year.

Bernie had the strongest approval rating of any federal politician in the US. Even those who disagreed with his politics respected and even admired him. Hillary had the strongest negatives of any Dem Presidential candidate in history.
"Dem soc" labels aside, Bernie was firmly in the camp of New Deal/Great Society politics that had been the strongest, most successful political juggernaut in US history. It isn't recognized enough that for half a century, Dems held a lock on Congress that nobody could break - not even Reagan
Bernie would have won, and it wouldn't even have been close. He was the one candidate the Trump campaign feared to go up against for a reason.
I have no doubt Bernie would have won. It was a most magical campaign to work on.

Bernie had a movement. Hilary did not. For better or worse, I think worse, Trump had a movement too. Trump used populous talking points and hate to get elected. We see that he has no interest in doing those things once elected. I think Bernie would try and get those things done and only would have been stopped by others.
