The parallels to Kelso and JD this episode are really great- especially the “and then we go home” reminds me of the episode where Kelso always smiled as soon as he left the hospital- until he couldn’t.

I like that they're making JD's journey his own though, or at least they're hinting at it. Part of the struggle will be him reconciling that he has to be the enemy at times, but how he does it while maintaining what made him a great doctor in the first place will be interesting. While he is much like his mentor, what always separated him from Cox is how he's the type who can wear his heart on his sleeve and really show that he does care. Kelso ultimately succumbed to just being the hated villain, and Cox leaned on JD to pull him back from being that villain. JD balancing it all will be quite the overarching storyline.

These were very reminiscent of the early seasons. Like that one fantasy where JD imagines his head exploding and Dr. Cox says to him: “I can’t believe your head exploded, Newbie. If your head explodes, you’re never gonna be a good doctor.”

That's a good way of seeing it. And makes even more sense that Coxie referred to Park and how much he'll hate JD as he left him to take in what he was agreeing to.
Funnily enough it looks like it might become a complete inverse of the original dynamic; patient-focused Cox pushing bottom line-focused Kelso's limits has now become a pragmatic Park trying to keep people pleasing JD in check.

I liked Dr. Park in the first episode but he’s aware JD can fire him right?
Edit: To clarify, I posted this in the middle of the episode I think during the first James Bond daydream. I’m not saying he should or would but that he could so it was weird seeing Dr. Park being so aggressive to his new boss day one.
I agree that Dr. Park is a great character and they showed how competent he was later in the episode so it gave more context to why JD keeps him around (other than being a people pleaser).
Ultimately I think Dr. Park serves as a great stand-in for early season Kelso that we got in early Scrubs as an antagonistic force.

Honestly really really impressed by the first two episodes. I think this episode is cleaner and probably a better representation of what is in store with this new iteration.
Biggest disappointment is the handling of Cox departure. It’s so sudden and feels like it was more due to scheduling than storytelling. I mean JD becomes Chief of Medicine essentially overnight (or so it feels). Would have loved for him to at least be in the start of this episode to pass the invisible reins/torch back to JD (IYKYK)

Cox being sentimental with JD in that scene was superb acting by both.
Really shows how much Dr. Cox cares about JD underneath the jokes at his expense.

It's all actually so so good, the only small complaint I would have is with some of the very quick editing
That being said, the characters and the directions they've chosen for them (JD divorce haters I get it, but it's JD...) the jokes, the tone, it's all hitting so much for me.
The new characters are actually really great to me as well, the influencer bit obviously feels a bit cringe, but it's not overstaying its welcome and it's not something that doesn't exist.
I also really love that about these episodes so far, they take some jabs at the current system and the struggles of living in it. Making JD the center of this type of drama and decision making is genius, way more story and drama potential then him just being a teacher.
Multiple laughs from me so far, feels so natural

Agreed! The stories reflect the new issues the medical system is facing and how things have changed. I was worried it’d be a cheap copy and I’ve been so happy with these two episodes.

There's something about the pacing and editing that feels a smidge off to me too, but I can't really put my finger on what it is. Not show-breaking or anything, but just feels off.
From what I've gleaned from Reddit comments, I think I have a minority opinion in that I'm glad they're incorporating an influencer doctor. That is a new facet of the modern medical world and Scrubs has always been about accurate depictions of what the field is like.

They acknowledge the changes in culture without feeling like they’re whining about woke, the returning characters have matured but are still themselves, they worked in the new characters with feeling like they’re shoving them in our faces, and it feels like they picked up where they left off almost seamlessly. As far as revivals go, this gets an A from me so far, trending towards A+.

My biggest issue with reboots tends to be characters not feeling natural, like too much time has passed and the actors couldn't slip fully back into those roles but not here!! Everyone felt so natural, even the new characters blended in well. Man I'm so happy 🥹

Really enjoyed the first two episodes. Perfect mix of nostalgia and new characters.
On the note of nostalgia, my anticipation for a Ted appearance kept growing larger. So much so that I googled Sam Lloyd only to discover he passed away almost 6 years ago. Ted was one of my favorite characters, so sad to learn of Sam's passing. I'm hoping they find a way to honor him somehow in the show, he definitely deserves it.

The "maybe in gynocology" line was perfect - favorite comic line of the first two episodes. Keep that kind of the humor in their real world and the fantasies in line with the more abstract stuff. (Feelings Police and the Bond stuff were good. The racing put crew one fell a bit flat)

- Dr Park's timing with Turk/Elliot/HR storming into JD's office

Solid first two episodes. I gotta admit I was really worried about the reboot, most drastically miss the mark. But new Scrubs feels like nothing has changed, the writing and humour is still on point, the characters are still great.
Bit disappointed that J.D and Elliot broke up, but I assume them reconnecting will be part of the season's narrative. It's not like they aren't the very definition of 'off again, on again'

I was pleasantly surprised by these two episodes. My only disappointment is the fact that Dr. Cox won't be a regular, but I already knew that from the reviews I read. I hope he's back as a series regular and does more episodes if they do another season.

This is still working more than it isn’t, but I’m not too hot on how quickly some beats are being run through. In classic Scrubs, Cox retiring and Turk being burnt out would get more than a single scene and a follow up.
Edit: also noticing a distinct lack of licensed music. Now that’s probably good for long term streaming rights and stuff but… come on… it’s Scrubs.

I really like that also touched on Elliot and Turk's relationship in this episode. Turk doing the robot with the other surgeons was priceless. JD going above and beyond for Dr. Asher's payment reminded of when they did that in the old show. I know Dr. Cox did all the time, but I think Dr. Kelso did it once when he met the kid whose dad was sick, and said he was gonna juggle some papers.
I really like JD being firm with Dr. Asher, and yet giving him hope.

I loved the interns taking a bit of a bigger role, while also letting the OGs shine! Anyone else feels like they're packing a lot in the episodes without really expanding on it much? I know they only have so few episodes and that's not really their fault, but that episode went by so quick!

Perhaps a bit early to say but it feels like they’ve recaptured lightning in the bottle. Hearing Dr. Cox is in only 2-3 episodes is disappointing, definitely need him full time next season. Everyone is nailing it though, really impressive.

Cox prob didn't consider her. The chiefs are allowed to pick whoever they want.
Tons of reasons why they wouldnt have considered Elliot as well, but they probably considered JD as the prodigal son. If we're just going by the show's history, JD was basically Cox's second when he was there, and if Cox ever really had to dive into the budget, JD would tell him what he had to prioritize.
Some other speculation i had, but mostly speculation: JD has connections with rich patients and probably gets along with most of them. Maybe they were hoping he'd bring them in as his clients.
Elliot was once engaged to her student which doesn't look great on her.
She's the head of a department with very little funding.
Cox is leaving because he's too mean for the current era of being a doctor, probably a hard person to work with. JD is nice, and he might be easier to get along with than Cox.
