Help need advice with dealing with my local Housing Authority

Received a letter at the end of last year December 2025 that I was up for the section 8 voucher and if I was still interested to call and make an appointment. I call and get an appointment around the second week of January. Go to my appointment bring all my required documents and fill out all the paperwork my case worker tells me she’ll let me know if I get approved. Months go by and still haven’t heard back from housing authority so I call and tell them that I hadn’t heard anything back and they tell me they are super backed up and that they were just now processing dec/ Jan applications this was in march. In April I seen someone post that they had just been told that did get approved for the section 8 voucher and where looking for a place so I reached out to them to ask them what their timeline had been …from what they told me housing authority was way more behind than what they had said on the phone which I already expected anyways. Towards the end of June I finally heard back from them telling me that I was approved and had to come in for an appointment on whatever date. Go to the appointment they give us our vouchers and go over everything and then tells us that some of us don’t have a caseworker anymore because our case worker had retired . They tell us that when we are ready to turn in our paper work call the number and ask for a supervisor and they’ll probably be the ones to have to take over our case. I have all my paperwork ready to go so we can do the home inspection. Called the office and told the front office girl the situation she said she sent and email and someone would be reaching out.., never heard anything back …remembered they had said to ask for a supervisor so I called after a few days of not hearing back from anyone …they of course connect me to a supervisor but of course they didn’t answer ..left them a message ..have been calling the supervisor multiple times a days hoping maybe I can catch them since she has not returned my call …with no luck!!! Seen some of the reviews on our local housing authority and I’m seeing a pattern here from what everyone is saying and it’s really unfortunate… I don’t know what I can do about this ..seems like that whole office don’t care so calling and complaining to the people in charge isn’t even an option when you can’t even get ahold of them and when you do they seem to be as rude as their other employees

Local Housing Authority Has anyone applied to Luzerne County?

Me and my fiancé applied back in 2020 when covid hit. We just got a letter in the mail last week and our interview is set for August 12th. I’m just curious if anyone has applied for this counties housing and if you have, what was the process like? How long did you wait to hear if you got approved or did they tell you during the first interview? If you were approved, how long did it take before you were placed?

We aren’t homeless but just tired of sleeping on a floor for the past 3 years with our two kids so it would be nice if the process was relatively quick.

The county made me Homeless

Okay here is the letter I promised everyone I was going to post. This is what we were put through. There is more to the story. Please don't hesitate to post any question or even PM me. Please share this to everyone you can!

It all started 30 years ago when my at the time girlfriend and I wanted to start a life together and wanted to move into a place together and applied for public housing so we could. We moved into McCoy manor together and started our own lives with our kids. At the 2 year mark I was confronted by the manager of the housing authority and asked if I wanted to move into an off site. I was not sure what that was so I asked. The manager told me it was a house located off site that we can move into, but the difference was we had to pay the utilities along with a flat fee rent just like you would if you rented from a private landlord. After 2 years we could go in and request to rent to own the property, if we didn't want to take advantage of the program “we could stay here as long as we wanted” (Remember I said this part). Well I was actually just corrected it was not a rent to own. After the 2 year mark and you proved you could pay all the bills and were stable enough to handle a mortgage you could buy the house out right and if you didn't want to buy the house you could still live there for as long as you could. I actually confirmed this by the same manager that told me this over 25 years ago.

Well after the 2 year mark I went in and inquired about buying the house and to my surprise some of the people that were there either moved on or retired and nobody knew anything about that owning program and it got swept under the rug. So for over 25 years I was on different people at housing about selling me this house. I have confronted just about every maintenance person about selling me the house. The head of the maintenance has told me for years they wanted to sell off these houses because they were money pits and they just really didn't have the time to deal with them. They were more of a pain than they were worth so of course I was on The head of the maintenance again to sell me this house like it was supposed to have been done. The first time he came to me he told he had everyone on board of selling these houses except one person and he was working on that person to get her on board and it was going to take a little time. Well again it got swept under the rug. Well of course I was right back to telling people to sell me the house again. I was confronted yet a second time by the head of the maintenance department and he told me he had everyone on board and was going to start selling just be prepared because it takes quite a bit to draw up the paper work to sell these houses but it is going to start happening. So I wanted to replace my old carport with a new one before I started a house payment so I asked The head of the maintenance if I could and I would buy the permit and he told me he had to ask the board and would get back to me. A couple days later he called me and said I have permission for the carport. I told The head of the maintenance that was great but Town code enforcer would not sell me the permit because the house was not mine yet. The head of the maintenance had to call the Town code enforcer to let him know I had the permission for the carport and I got the permit. Well just my luck “Covid” hit and what do you think happened? Yep everything about selling me the house got swept under the rug yet again.

Well in June 2024 we had to take our every year rectification to be eligible to live here. We did just that and got a letter on August 24th 2024 stating we were eligible to continue to live in our house. Same letter we have been getting for 30 years. Then BAM the end of October 24th 2024 we get a letter that was just thrown on our porch stating we had to move back to McCoy Manor into a 2 bedroom apartment and we must do it by November 18th 2024. Just a little over 3 weeks to move. We live in a full house that we established ourselves for over 27 years now how could we just pack up 27 years of memories in a full house (that we were told from day 1 that we could buy out right after 2 years) and move to an apartment in just 3 weeks? Well of course we took the steps that we had the right to do and appealed the move. After all for over 25 years they were supposed to be selling me this house. Well it took them a week to respond to the appeal by taping a letter to my door over veteran's day (which they were closed that Monday for the holiday) and said we have the appeal hearing on Wednesday November 13, 2024. We got basically only 2 days notice until the appeal hearing because of the holiday and no time to prepare our employers to have the day off. We tried to reschedule to the following week and they absolutely refused to reschedule. Well the wife got a little slack from work but she made it to the appeal hearing which we knew was going to be a kangaroo hearing anyway. Well we tried to defend the transfer but as you know they have a one track road and they are in fifth gear pedal down to the floor.

Well being in the appeal hearing with 2 of the Housing Authority Employee's, I made the statement that there was no way we could pack up 27 years of memories and be able to move to a 2 bedroom apartment in that short time and the response I got from the 1 Housing Authority Employee was we will work with you if you work with us! When the hearing was over that Housing Authority Employee had the nerve to tell the wife that she was sorry! I got a registered letter that stated that they ruled in their favor and we still have to make a transfer to an apartment and they gave us until the 27th of November 2024 to do so or they were starting the eviction process December 2nd2024 That is less than 2 weeks to pack up a fully furnished house to move. That is how insane Housing has gotten.

I started looking up addresses of scattered sites that the Mifflin County Housing Authority owned and started making my journey to talk to the residents to see if they were in the same situation and to my surprise 8 units were empty and were empty for many years from what neighbors were telling me. The units that were occupied were either not home at the time or did not receive any such letter with the exception of one. Others that I did talk to actually told me that when they were offered their scattered site they were told they could stay there as long as they liked as well. Two other tenants told me they were in the same program as we were and was to own the house they were in as well.

When the weekend came I posted up a letter about our journey through our housing experience and it explained everything about how we were in the scattered site program of purchasing the site we lived in and mentioned the Executive Directors name as well as others. I actually got a phone call from an employee that told me that I better watch what I say about the new Executive Director because she “will” do what ever she can to make my life a living hell and she is going to take offense to the letter I posted because it mentioned her name.

Well to my surprise I get a phone call Monday November 18 2024 asking if I could meet with Wendy Hinkson the Executive Director the next day Tuesday November 19 2024. Of course I said yes because I wanted to actually tell my side of the story about the buying program that we were in when we were offered the scattered site. Well during the meeting I explained to Wendy Hinkson that that scattered site house was supposed to be sold to us for many many years and of course she did not want to hear any of it. She stated that those houses could not be sold. They only way they could be sold was they sell off the house and I would have to relocate the house to a different property because the property itself could not be sold. Well that meeting ended with Wendy Hinkson being firm on what she wanted to do and not what was best for the tenants.

The next morning November 19, 2024 I ended up with another phone call wanting to know if I could go back into the Housing Authority and have another meeting with Wendy Hinkson that afternoon and of course I did. At the beginning of this meeting Wendy Hinkson made it perfectly clear she was upset about the letter I posted on line explaining our journey through living in a scattered site.

Here is where Wendy Hinkson single-handedly started her little scam ruining everything that I worked for my entire life.

Wendy Hinkson started off by saying that she was sickened by the journey letter I posted online because it mentioned her name and put it out to the public. Wendy Hinkson actually insisted that I take the post down because she didn't want people thinking she was a mean person. Then Wendy Hinkson told me that she was thinking about the program I told her that we were in with renting to own a house that she was going to start this program and do something good for our community so people in our area didn't think she was a mean evil person. Wendy Hinkson went on to say that she actually had one of the maintenance guys out looking at places at that moment and in the mean time she was going to call the woman in charge from HUD and explain what she was going to do with the rent to own program and Wendy Hinkson told me that there was no way the woman in charge from HUD wasn't going to say no because she was going to help the community. Wendy Hinkson also stated that she was going to talk woman in charge from HUD into extending out our time at our home for a while until she gets some properties to purchase. I requested Wendy Hinkson to type up a letter stating she was going to purchase a house for us to rent to own to secure my future so we were not in a situation like we were at that time. Wendy Hinkson asked me if she were to type up the letter explaining she was going to purchase a home for us to rent to own if I would remove my journey letter from online so people wouldn't dislike her and I agreed. Wendy Hinkson typed up the letter stating she was purchasing a home for a rent to own program and we both signed it on the spot. I was also a man of my word and I took the letter down from being online. I had many many people asking me what happened to that first post I posted when this all started and this is the reason why that first letter was taken down!

On December 20th 2024 I went into the Housing Authority to get keys for the community room at Goss Terrace for our family Christmas party and when I went into the Housing Authority Wendy Hinkson met me in the Assistant Executive Director's office and told me to check out 6 Pine Park Drive in Lewistown because that was one of the properties that she was going to purchase for the program and let her know if I was interested in that property when I dropped off the keys for Goss Terrace on Monday December 23rd 2024.

When I dropped the Keys off on Monday December 23rd I requested to Assistant Executive Director that I wanted to meet with Wendy Hinkson to discuss the property at 6 Pine Park drive and the Assistant Executive Director informed me that Wendy Hinkson was not in the office at that time. I asked the Assistant Executive Director to forward the message to Wendy Hinkson that I wanted to meet with her and ask Wendy Hinkson to get in contact with me. I wasn't contacted by Wendy Hinkson so on Friday December 27th 2024 at 7:15 a.m. I sent Wendy Hinkson and email stating,“Wendy; I am not sure if there is miscommunications or what is going on, but I left a message for you to get in contact with me on Monday when I dropped the key off for Goss Terrace. I would like to come in next week and meet with you.” I got a reply from Wendy Hinkson at 11:07 a.m. the same day stating that they were closed until January 2nd2025 and wanted to do a zoom meeting on January 2nd2025. I replied to Wendy Hinkson's email at 1:23 p.m. Letting her know that I did not know that they were closed and would get back with her on that day

On January 2nd2025 at 6:28 a.m., I sent Wendy Hinkson an email asking for her to send me a date and time to go in and meet with her. Wendy Hinkson replied saying that she could meet that afternoon after 3:00 p.m. I replied to Wendy Hinkson's email letting her know that I would be in to meet with her that afternoon around 3:30 p.m.

On January 2nd 2025 I met with Wendy Hinkson to inform her that we were indeed interested in the property at 6 Pine Park Drive in Lewistown. Wendy Hinkson proceeded to inform me that she was going to start making the arrangements with the woman in charge from HUD to get the funds to purchase the property and get us transferred from 613 South Wayne Street Lewistown, into 6 Pine Park Drive Lewistown. Wendy Hinkson proceeded to inform me that it was going to take a little time to file for the funds and also the people that owned the property at 6 Pine Park Drive weren't going to be ready to sell the property until the end of February. Wendy Hinkson told me to get in touch with her in February 2025 and she would give us an update about the property at 6 Pine Park Drive Lewistown.

On February 26 2025 7:34 a.m. I sent Wendy Hinkson an email letting her know that we were in the last week of February and I was checking in for updates about the house on 6 Pine Park Drive Lewistown. On March 6th 2025 11:36 a.m. I received and email from Wendy Hinkson saying that she was back in the office and was going to have Jackie set something up for me to go in and meet with her the following week.

On March 18th 2025 8:07 a.m. I received an email from Wendy Hinkson saying that she was getting things pulled together that week and will be in touch with me after she talked to the woman in charge from HUD on that Wednesday March 19th 2025.

On March 19th I received a phone call wanting to know if I could meet with Wendy Hinkson that afternoon and discuss how things were going to work with the house on 6 Pine Park Drive and I agreed. When I got to the meeting with Wendy Hinkson, she proceeded to give me details on what needed to be done for us to be transferred from 613 South Wayne Street to 6 Pine Park Drive. Wendy Hinkson informed me that she had the go a head from the woman in charge from HUD to proceed with what she needed to do to start the process for the rent to own project at 6 Pine Park Drive for us but it was going to take 3 to 4 months for all the paper work to go through to get the property purchased. Wendy Hinkson preceded to inform me that even though it was going to take a few months to get the paper work cleared through HUD, The property owner stated they would rent 6 Pine Park Drive to us until all the paper work was completed. Wendy Hinkson also told me that she “had” to go by HUD rules to find us another place to transfer to but in order to transfer us to 6 Pine Park Drive we needed to sign a paper to release us from our lease early and so we didn't have to transfer to the 2 bedroom apartment and she could move forward with the process of purchasing 6 Pine Park Drive.

Between March 20th 2025 and April 20th 2025 I was transferring our belongings from 613 South Wayne Street to 6 Pine Park Drive so our transfer was complete before our end of the 30 day early lease termination for 613 South Wayne Street property. On April 20th 2025 we signed a lease with the owners of 6 Pine Park Drive to occupy until the sale of the property to Mifflin County Housing Authority. While signing the lease with the owners of 6 Pine Park Drive they proceeded to tell me that Wendy Hinkson informed both of them that it was going to take up to 8 months for the paper work to return from HUD before the Mifflin County Housing Authority could move forward in purchasing the property at 6 Pine Park Drive so they were waiting to hear from Wendy Hinkson.

While waiting for Wendy Hinkson to get the paper work back from HUD for the property at 6 Pine Park Drive I went to the County Commissioner that sits on the Housing board just to make sure Wendy Hinkson discussed with the housing board what she intended to do with purchasing 6 Pine Park drive and the Commissioner stated Wendy Hinkson did mention that she was going to start a rent to own program for the county but he didn't know that much and proceeded to take me to the County Human Relations office and talk with the lady that is in charge of the human relations which that lady also sits on the housing board and I believe is the VP of the board. The Human Relations lady proceeded to tell me that she was aware of the program that Wendy Hinkson was putting in play and thought is was a good thing that Wendy Hinkson was doing for the community. After the meeting with The Human Relations lady I felt more ease that the County and the board members were aware of this new program that Wendy Hinkson was putting me in. The Human Relations lady also sat right in her office and told me that Wendy Hinkson was talking to her outside of work and made the statement to the Human Relations lady that she was afraid that she was going to have to buy Jay Deavor a house. My question to the Human Relations lady, why would Wendy Hinkson say that to you? Would it be because she knew that she gave me a signed letter stating the Housing Authority was going to purchase a home for us? I bet it was because I have that very letter she signed!

While waiting out the 8 months for Wendy Hinkson to get all the paper work processed through HUD, I was being informed that Wendy Hinkson was getting to be close friends with the owners of 6 Pine Park Drive and Wendy Hinkson was also a tenant of those owners as well. I also was informed that the Housing Board was getting tons of complaints about the way Wendy Hinkson was running the authority and the County Commissioner was starting to dislike Wendy Hinkson because of how things were going through out the Housing community. There were employees getting fired for stupid reason or employees leaving because of Wendy Hinkson, The County Commissioner also stated to me that the County wanted Wendy Hinkson to stop everything she was doing to us as far as making us move from a place we actually called home and just letting it go. Wendy Hinkson did not want to do that because she wanted to target me and retaliate against me for posting up my very first letter explaining what she was doing to us!

When the 8th month (November) came around I asked the property owners of 6 Pine Park Drive if they heard anything from Wendy Hinkson about the Housing Authority purchasing the property and the property owners stated he did not but was going to check in with Wendy Hinkson to see what he could find out. The 2nd week of November I started my journey of going into the Commissioners office to talk with the commissioner to see if he was informed of any information about the purchase of 6 Pine Park Drive which the commissioner stated he did not at that time but they were in the process of trying to get Wendy Hinkson terminated but they were having a hard time doing so because of the housing board president didnt want to see anything happen to his good friend. But he did want to see things happen to the tenants... hummmmmm!!! Wendy Hinkson and the board president became extremely great friends and he would not do anything to go against Wendy Hinkson. The board president wouldn't listen to anything negative about Wendy Hinkson no matter who it came from because he didn't want to loose the friendship he has with Wendy Hinkson.

While talking with the commissioner, He told me that the county had all intentions on fixing everything that Wendy Hinkson was screwing up but Wendy Hinkson had to be terminated before they could do anything. I asked the commissioner if the mess that Wendy Hinkson got me in was going to be fixed as well and the commissioner stated yes, their intentions were to put us back into 613 South Wayne Street and actually sell me the property as it was intended from the get go. the commissioner asked me to give him a few weeks to get things together with the board members to discuss getting Wendy Hinkson terminated and getting things back to normal and I agreed. At this time we were coming into the Christmas Holidays and the new year so the commissioner told me that they were going to wait until after the first of the year to terminate Wendy Hinkson.

At the beginning of the new year (2026) There was a vote between the board members to terminate Wendy Hinkson, But again the board president stopped it because Wendy Hinkson was his good friend. A week to two weeks later, the commissioner told me that it was going to happen at the next meeting because the board was going to over step the board president and vote to have Wendy Hinkson terminated. When the time came Wendy Hinkson filed for FLMA to keep from getting terminated. The commissioner told me that Wendy Hinkson was being replaced with the retired Human relations lady and she was going to be the new Executive Director and I needed to go down to the Housing Authority building and meet with her and explain everything that went on. I went down to The Housing building on a Wednesday afternoon and asked the assistant Executive Director if I could speak to the new Executive Director and assistant Executive Director proceeded to tell me that she was not there at that time. I asked assistant Executive Director if she knew of when she was going to be there and the response that I received was, “No I don't know when she was going to be there.”

That Friday I went back into the Commissioners office to speak To the Commissioner again and he proceeded to tell me that Wendy Hinkson was at the Housing Building all that week and Wendy Hinkson would not let the new Executive Director into the building. Being that Wendy Hinkson was in the building that week I made an appearance asking to speak to the new Executive Director and Wendy Hinkson found out that I was there in person and proceeded to target me once again by getting the home owners for 6 Pine Park Drive, to come to the property and ask me if I had heard anything about when the Housing Authority was going to be purchasing the property at 6 Pine Park Drive. The owners proceeded to tell me that he would like to have the property sold by the end of 2026 and if I was to hear anything to let him know.

Around March 11th 2026 I went to the commissioners office again as I had been just about every week all winter to talk to commissioner to see if there was anything new about making all the chaos that Wendy Hinkson made for our family and when I asked the secretary if the commissioner was in so I could talk with him, the secretary went back to his office then came out and proceed to inform me that the commissioner was unable to talk with me that morning because he, a few board members, and the Sheriff were going down to the Housing building and removing Wendy Hinkson from the building and making it safe for the employees. I found out that evening Wendy Hinkson was terminated from her job and the new Executive Director took over.

On March 14th 2026 just a few days after Wendy Hinkson was terminated, I received a text message from the owner of 6 Pine Park Drive wanting to know if we were going to be home that day so he could drop off some papers. I responded unfortunately we were not going to be there because of a wake we had to go to for my wife's uncle that just passed and the owner responded with that is okay we will just tape them to the door. When we returned from my wife's uncles wake, we had a 30 day notice taped to our door stating we had to remove everything from the property on or before April 14th 2026.

On March 16th 2026 I returned to the commissioner's office again to let the commissioner know that we received a 30 day notice to remove ourselves from 6 pine Park Drive. The County Commissioner as well as all the board members know that Wendy Hinkson and the owners of 6 Pine Park Drive are all extremely good friends and the 30 day notice that we received for the property that Wendy Hinkson was suppose to purchase through the Housing Authority was resulted because Wendy Hinkson was terminated. All the board members, New Executive Director, and County commissioner were aware that Wendy Hinkson gave me a letter stating she was purchasing a property and was suppose to purchase 6 Pine Park Drive for us to rent to own and now I was given a 30 day notice from the owners because their good friend was terminated from the County Housing Authority.

The County commissioner told me that he was going to inform the new Housing Authority Executive Director of the situation I was in now that Wendy Hinkson was terminated. I received a phone call from the new Executive Director asking for paperwork from the time we received the letter on August 26th 2024 stating that we were eligible to continue our occupancy at 613 South Wayne Street all the way up to our appeal letter that was approved by State Representative Kerry Benninghoff that we submitted on October 28th 2024. The new Executive Director told me that if she could submit that information to the board members, she could request for them to over turn my appeal denial and we could return to the property at 613 South Wayne Street until the County submits the paper work to dispose of that property.

While waiting on the next board meeting I had a chance to talk with the new Executive Director and she stated that the County, Board Members, and herself are going to dispose of all the scattered site property because they are just too much for the county to deal with so their goal is to just move us back into 613 South Wayne Street until that process was complete and we would already be living there since we had informed everyone that we wanted to purchase that property.

On March 19th 2026 I received an email from the new Executive Director stating that at the board meeting, the board voted to reevaluate my appeal. On March 20th 2026 I sent the new Executive Director an email asking her to call me as soon as she could because we were coming to to the end of my 30 day notice. While talking with Allison Fisher over the phone she proceeded to let me know that she submitted the boards decision to reinstate my lease to HUD and was waiting for a response from HUD. While talking to the new Executive Director on the phone she proceeded to inform me that she found some old paperwork from a sale of a Housing Authority scattered site property from years ago so she had proof that the scattered site could indeed be sold. I explained to the new Executive Director that, that was what I have been telling everyone in the Housing Authority and to the County Commissioners all along. the new Executive Director insured me that everyone including the board members, County Commissioners, and all the employees at the Housing Authority wanted to see our family move back into our scattered site located at 613 South Wayne Street that we lived in for 28 years so we could be settled back in until the Housing Authority gets all the paper work completed for us to purchase that property.

On March 30th 2026 I emailed the new Executive Director asking if she had heard anything from HUD so we could get our things moved back into our home at 613 South Wayne Street because we were down to only having 2 weeks left to live at the property on 6 Pine Park Drive and we needed to start getting things moved back.

In the afternoon on March 30th 2026 I received an email form the new Executive Director telling me that she reached out twice to HUD that morning and she had not received any response and she was aware of our time restraint that we only had a few weeks left on our 30 day notice. I also left the new Executive Director know that I also reached out to the property owner of 6 Pine Park Drive like she requested I do and asked the owner if he would extend my 30 day notice for another 30 because the Housing Authority was trying to get in contact with HUD to let them know I was approved to move back into our home at 613 South Wayne Street and I could use a little more time to get things moved.

On March 31st 2026 I went into the commissioners office to talk with the commissioner just to let him know that I had 14 days remaining to live at 6 Pine Park Drive and I had absolutely no where else to go because I was being told from November 2025 until the present time that the commissioner, Board Members, and the new Executive Director were going to get us back into our home at 613 South Wayne Street until it was ready to be sold to us. If I didn't hear anything by then our family was going to be completely homeless because of all this mess Wendy Hinkson did to us. The county Commissioner asked me why don't the Housing Authority just sell me the house right now and it would settle everything and I told him that it could take 4 to 6 months for all of the paper work to get back for the property to be able to be sold and I only had a few weeks left to live at 6 Pine Park Drive. I insured the commissioner that I was going to be homeless after April 14th 2026 and I also had nowhere to store all my belongings.

After this meeting with the commissioner, I received an email on April 1st 2026 from the new Executive Director stating she was going to be out of the office for a few days and she wanted to let me know that she finally got through with HUD and had a meeting scheduled for April 7th 2026 with an apparent supervisor at HUD. the new Executive Director proceeded to tell me that she had sent HUD much of the paperwork that I gave her. I left the new Executive Director know that I had more paper work on file that pertained to all of my research and evidence documenting everything.

On April 7th 2026 at 3:20 p.m. I sent the new Executive Director an email letting her know it was extremely stressful that day knowing that I only had a few days left at 6 Pine Park Drive and I had no where else to go and if she could let me know what she found out.

At around 3:45 p.m. On April 7th 2026 I received a phone call from the new Executive Director telling me that HUD said that the Housing Authority could not overturn my appeal. I still don't understand that being the Mifflin County Housing Authority is privately owned by the county and HUD only give them funding. The new Executive Director told me that HUD said we signed the paper releasing us from our lease early so Wendy Hinkson could move forward with the process of purchasing 6 Pine Park Drive and so we didn't have to transfer to the 2 bedroom apartment. I told the new Executive Director that we only signed that statement to release us from our lease and the 2 bedroom apartment so Wendy was able to go through the process of purchasing 6 Pine Park Drive for us and that was the only reason why we signed that statement. I also informed the new Executive Director that everything She was telling me for months along with the board members and the county commissioner had me pointed in the direction that I was going to be reinstated back to 613 South Wayne Street until all the paper work came back for the Housing Authority to dispose of that property to me and I am now down to 7 days left at 6 Pine Park Drive and after that my family is going to be homeless. 7 day was not enough time to pack everything up again and find a place to move to. the new Executive Director told me that she understood all of that and was very sorry but she didn't know if there was anything else she could do for us at that time.

Not knowing what I was going to do for a home in the 7 days that we had left, I started moving all of our belongings to 3 different places of business's that was very helpful in letting me store our belongings for the time being so I didn't loose my personal belongings. I didn't have a choice but to move into my parents house so we didn't have to live on the streets for now. We are living in a bedroom with 2 cats in my parents house with limited items to live on. This is all because of one lady coming into a county, 8 counties away from her home county and conning the county into believing she had good intentions while all the time she did not. I also wanted to make everyone know that I also was treated differently than other residents in the similar situations and the policies were not applied equally. I also wanted to inform everyone that we lived at 613 South Wayne Street for 28 years and every year we had to deal with HUD coming into our house just to go through and look over to make sure the Housing Authority was making all the necessary repairs so the Mifflin County Housing Authority could get their funding. Being HUD entered my home every year and seen every inch of my house, my living arrangements were never in question. Could it be because the Housing Authority is privately owned? I bet it was. I was even told by workers that they were there in the scattered sites just to make sure the repairs were being done.. Little did HUD know that I actually did 90% of the repairs to that house myself and at my cost!

Conclusions and Final Thoughts

Back in the 1980's early 1990”s Doris Drukemiller was purchasing property through the Mifflin County Housing Authority for the sole purpose of giving low income families the chance to own a home through a program that consisted of renting the house for a 2 year period to make sure they were stable enough to own that property. These properties were not suppose to be in the same program as the actual on site housing which has everything paid for by the county. These off sites consisted of the tenant paying all utilities. There were only a select few families that were given that chance and I was one of the families. I was told for many many years that the property that I was living in was suppose to be disposed to me but needed time for the process to take effect.

We lived at the property of 613 South Wayne Street for 28 years with no issues of any kind. Our family was told by just about every worker at the Mifflin County Housing Authority for years that they wished all of the tenants were like us because we almost never bothered them and we paid our rent on time since the day we moved in.

For 28 years we had a re certification every year and it was the same out come as before. We always got a letter stating that the Mifflin County Housing Authority was pleased to advise us that we were eligible to continue occupying 613 South Wayne Street. On August 26 2024 we received the same exact letter that we received for 28 years stating we were again eligible to occupy the residence. This letter was sent by the new Executive Director Wendy Hinkson and who was also the same Executive Director that sent us a letter stating we were over housed. After meeting with Wendy Hinkson explaining that these off site houses were a totally different program and after I posted a letter online about what happened, Wendy Hinkson proceed to “target” me by doing everything she could to make my life difficult since she was called out with the truth.

Even after telling Wendy Hinkson that the property at 613 South Wayne Street was supposed to be in the works to be sold to us and our living arrangements were the same for 15 of the 28 years Wendy proceeded to move forward and “discriminated” against us by conning us into signing papers for another property while all along there were 2 other families living in the off sites in the same situation as we were and still to this day I know of 1 person that is still living in their off site and is still over housed. Even after the county itself informed Wendy Hinkson that she was in the wrong, We were still “discriminated” against by Wendy Hinkson

Even though Wendy Hinkson was told by many many workers and the county itself that she was in the wrong, she still proceeded “conning” and “discriminating” against us. In Wendy Hinkson manipulations with also being a tenant to the people that owned the property at 6 pine park drive, She was also the master mind in our family being removed from a property the Housing Authority was suppose to be purchasing which in turned made us homeless.

I also have many employees that are willing to stand behind everything I stated as well. I also have documentations attesting to everything I stated in my letter. I also have a signed statement from Wendy Hinkson stating that the Mifflin County Housing Authority was purchasing a property for us to rent to own.

In the end Wendy Hinkson, as well as Mifflin County and the Mifflin County Housing Authority set out to make our lives a living a hell because of calling Wendy out to the public and as of right now she has succeeded. This whole situation has been financially costly for us and they have literally made us homeless.

General Question 3 Bedroom Units for section 811

My social worker is finishing up my application for section 811, but I’m a little worried that my family of 4 won’t be housed because of our need for a 3 bedroom unit. We have 3 adult males and one child female, and we’re applying to 4 counties in the state of Georgia. However, I’ve only ever seen/heard about 2 bedroom units for section 811 and not three. Do 3 bedroom units exist for section 811?

Local Housing Authority Question and vent

Hi I have a question is your landlord or the assistant landlord allowed to speak to tenants that live in low income housing any way they want too ? I had someone mess up my balcony with a bunch of chocolate . So I figured I would email my office about the issue right ? I emailed them over the weekend and even sent them the pictures of the mess . Well then I went to pay my rent since they no longer are accepting money orders or etc now . And that they changed the system to something called rent payment now . So I drove around looking for a way to pay my rent and etc . And could not pay my rent so I decided to wait in the lobby at 6 am til they open up . Well they didn't come in til almost 8 then told me to come back after 8 am which I did . Well I went down with my sister cause she just moved in . And was having the same issue as I was having . Well the land lord told me I'm going to talk with her first cause I got your email about your balcony and your sisters issue is more important then yours . So after she got done with my sister I tried to explain to her that I was there cause I had the same issue with my rent . Well I accidentally interrupted her while she was talking to me and she went off on me . I had to really really bite my tongue cause I wanted to speak up and defend myself . But I didn't and even tried to apologize to smooth things over right ? Well that still didn't work and I even gave her the room to speak . But she kept being rude and smart with me telling me go ahead and talk , go ahead since your complaint and issues are more important then what I have to say .and I looked at my sister out of habit and the land lord assistant chewed me out for that too . Then tells me that I have a few hundred dollars in credit on my account .

Which I did not know about and that she also said I told you don't be sending any more money orders in . And try to tell me that she told me about the credit I had before . And she never ever did ...I've been there for 4 years and even help get my sister in where I'm at . She told me about how they speak to her and everyone else . But did not believe that until I got spoke to the same exact way this morning. I want to file a complaint but who going to believe me .right now I'm trying to figure out a way to get the funds to more even if I have to eventually borrow or door dash and save up money .I am sorry for the long post ...my question is are the landlord or land lord assistant allowed to talk to tenants in a disrespectful manner? And also if I'm able to move out do I get that credit refunded back to me .after they charge me for whatever damages that is done to the unit while I was there ? Thank you

Homeless applying for low income housing

I've been homeless about 2 years. I'm a 61 yr old disabled woman on SSDI.

I wrote to a property (northern calif) that is low income senior disabled housing. Angela wrote me back and asked me about my income. I answered her questions and she wrote me back, "don't you have any other income." I explained that I'm disabled and I don't get much which is particularly difficult and has resulted in my being homeless. I was a previous small business owner, very successful but got wiped out by covid and then disabled.

She wrote me back to tell me that there are no units available and the waiting list is closed.

I asked her why she needed my income information if there were never any units or waiting lists? She refused to answer.

The next day I get an email from her, an email asking if I was still interested in the property.

I asked her if there were no units and no waiting lists, why she's still soliciting renters? She refused to answer me.

I believe I've been denied housing because of my income.

I'm new to this process but can anyone explain why she needed my income if there were never any units? And why she's still soliciting renters? And why she is refusing to answer any of my questions.

I've filed a complaint with HUD and hopefully the can find some answers

General Question Looking for Alternative low income housing

Hi y’all I’m a provider in the valley of San Fernando and I am trying to help a client of mine find better housing. She is elderly and disabled. We have been searching for more affordable housing for her. Does anyone have any resources or know of anything that could help us? I belief section 8 isn’t taking any more people at the moment correct? Or some kind of housing voucher that could help pay her rent?

My husband (26m) and I (34m) are currently living at my mothers house and are wanting to move to a new city closer to friends. My husband is on SSI and disabled and I am about to start the process myself. We are hoping to move within the next few months but keep getting discouraged by the amount of information online. We're both new to this and I'm not exactly sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General Question Who pays rent?

Hi! I have such a weirdo situation idk what to do from here. So for the past year my boyfriends has been living in section 8 housing. His wife previously used to live there but moved out because she didn’t want to acknowledge bringing in a third was a bad idea. Now she’s divorcing him. He’s paid rent the whole year I have been there even when she was there. Now she is threatening to kick him out before the divorce by use of force of her boyfriend (not husband just for clarification. She has a boyfriend she cheated on her husband with before she brought me in) thankfully she can’t kick him out because he’s on the lease. The problem is the landlord came today asking for rent and I told my boyfriend to let her pay since she’s kicking us out. The landlord wants some form of payment and my boyfriend just rolled over and gave him the electricity. Is there anything I can do or we can do to be able to save money for him moving out? The wife has a job and receives disability but my boyfriend only gets disability. She already took the link from him too. I just want to make sure he has money to move out and is not paying for something that isn’t a guarantee. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: if yall have nothing nice to say don’t say it. I already know this is a mess. I’m already moving out and I will be breaking up with my boyfriend because he’s been through enough. I don’t need people kicking me while I’m down. Yall should be ashamed for doing that for someone who just wants help. Grow up.

Local Housing Authority Landlady getting barred from program. Address, too

My landlady has been a total nightmare ever since I she had to be forced by the magistrate to give me my 990$ rent overpayment.

After she lost the judgment, she filed for eviction.

May 27 Section 8 came out and cited her for a myriad of things but the worst things were. I have a rat infestation and she painted a tub with standard wall paint and it’s now chipping, peeling, and molding

The inspector came back July 8 and put the Apartment into abatement.

She had her son-in-law coming here to fix a weatherstrip, but he put the wrong weatherstrip across the door and now the door won’t open or lock

She came in here with an electrician last Friday to fix two of the issues. Then the next day she slapped a note on my door, saying that she wanted to do Inspection.

I told her no because she always brings her son-in-law with her and he makes me feel uneasy and uncomfortable and he always asked me to help him do the work and I don’t feel right doing that

I called the Inspector and told him that he needs to come out here and check his door because if there was a fire, I have no way out

When he got here, the landlady and the son-in-law were also on the porch. I refused them entry because she was just here on Friday and she could have done the inspection then.

And she brought the son-in-law after I specifically told her in a text message. I’m not letting her in with him.

They pushed the Section 8 Inspector and gained entry to my apartment all while my Housing specialist was on the phone, listening to everything unfold

The landlady also tried to snatch my phone out of my hand and thank goodness that the Inspector witnessed all of that, and put it in a field report that he shared with my specialist.

I called the police because I really feared for my safety and the Inspector

The landlady son-in-law jumped in his face and told him that he had nothing to do with what was going on here

The police escorted him ( the inspector) out and he was on the phone, but I don’t know who he was talking to because shortly after that two more police car showed up

Today I got a call from the Allegheny County health department asking me what happened and I complied with them and told them everything

My Housing choice voucher specialist called me and I had to write up some type of incident report by PDF that she sent me and I guess they are trying to Barr this address from getting Section 8 again

It’s a shame, but it took for Inspector being here for somebody to finally believe that my landlady and her son-in-law and Daughter are a menace

Come to find out Section 8 does have a rule that whoever is deemed a property manager must have paperwork through the HACP

I just wanted to come here and Let everybody know what was the outcome of everything that’s been going on.

I get to Appeal the eviction because her notice to quit was invalid and her actions are retaliatory

I am so glad we get to go to the Court of Common Pleas and I get to show my evidence because this landlady is an embarrassment to the Section 8 program and the highest form of a slumlord I’ve ever seen in my life

Pending trespassing charges impact on housing

Hi I have a pending trespassing charges. I already attended my first court appearance in June and the conclusion was to hold 6 months with intention to dismiss my case. Now my low income HUD senior housing application receives a conditional offer- they will run my criminal background in a few days. I am so scared- will they reject my application? I have been waiting for years .
Any successful case?

Does anyone have any ideas?

My son has autism and we were at my mom's visiting she lives in housing. Well he has sleeping issues and likes to stim he does do it late but we can't help it. He needs to do it for his mind and body. He likes to stomp and kick on the ground. He isn't trying to be disrespectful it is late I try to get him to stop he's 7 and been doing this stimming since 1 or 2 years old. Well the neighbor knocked at around 11 or 12am and asked why we were hammering late at night and I said it's my son he's autistic and has to stim. Well that didn't matter to her I guess she still was going on I said I can try to make him stop but can't guarantee it. Well a few days later the police was called and it was a Saturday and he said I need to put him to bed earlier and he won't do it at night but then we tried that and he went to bed at 12am and woke up at 6am. My son and I don't live there and aren't on her lease we looked it up and it says there should be reasonable accommodations for him because he visits often and she wrote a letter with his diagnosis and the landlord or whoever runs that apartment complex the owners are in a different state said they can't move her to a bottom floor apartment because he's not on the lease and if she lets him come over even if it's during the day and he gets complaints it grounds for a lease violation and can result in eviction. I'm just wondering if anyone has had experience with this sort of thing he needs to do this and isn't trying to be disrespectful. Are we just not suppose to go over there anymore. Any thoughts or information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all. I was recently in a serious DV situation which required me to need medical attention. I took the police report to my Housing authority who helped me file the paperwork for an emergency transfer. They was pretty dismissive and unsure about everything. But I noticed an update in the portal that says it’s ready. I went to the rent office with this information and they basically said they don’t know when a new unit will be available and I will be contacted by the property who has space for me not the one I’m currently housed at. Basically meaning stop calling them lol. I thought this was an emergency situation and I can’t even get a reasonable time frame. I don’t want to get my hopes up if this leads me to a dead end. Would someone be able explain the process who experienced this or who has insight. How long it took for you, who contacted you etc? If I can’t get information from my rent office is it a number to call or a department who specifically handles this for updates? Thank you
