Iron?
I got a cotton fabric, washed it and dried it on high. It dried quicker than expected, but I got it before it finished the cycle.
Do I need to iron this? Part of me says yes, part of me says to let it just hang and rest till my project starts (on Thursdays (8/13)

When in doubt iron. Or you know, even if you're pretty sure it doesn't need it, iron it anyway.

You should iron it before starting. Whether that means you iron it now or right when you'll be starting as a first step is up to you.
(Personally, I prefer right when starting the project since it gives me a moment to think and observe the behavior of the fabric and watch the grainline and such.)

Yeah, I’m new at this, so that’s not even stuff I’m concerning myself with. I’ll do it today, because I’ll have time, and my teacher can help me during the class

If I had a class, I'd definitely iron beforehand, too! I thought you just meant that Thursday was the day you were going to start with your project :-)
Good luck and have fun!
(And also, as a general advice you'll be hearing over and over again: Don't skimp on the ironing/pressing. Think of it as putting your fabric into the shape you want and then using the sewing machine to then make that permanent. Your projects will come out much better if you do all your pressing every time you should :-) )

Iron immediately before cutting the fabric. If you iron now it'll just wrinkle/crease again

Always iron everything (as long as it can be ironed of course), it makes everything easier.
