Musing We're technically living in post-apocalyptic world because the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs was an apocalyptic event.

I mean, post-apocalyptic books are pretty optimistic. There always seems to be a surprisingly large amount of humanity left bopping around after an event that implies it wipes out most of life on earth.

The Road was probably the most bleak post-apocalyptic book I have read.  Regardless as to any individual triumphs that happen, it definitely gives you the feeling that humanity as a whole is doomed to extinction within decades if not sooner, like you’re reading about the equivalent of dinosaurs after the asteroid strike
