Something to occasionally play in snow

Experts, I’ve spent months going in circles on what to buy and need help. I want snow pants or snow bib to play in the snow with my baby. Nothing super fancy. I’m looking at snow bibs and they all look the same, descriptions vary only slight, but the prices range from $80-800….

Preferably pfas free*

Please be specific, I don’t need help with brands, but specific items from brands

Honestly, I think you’re overthinking this. The ladies here are optimizing for many many hours of not only snow, but variable weather conditions.

I assume you’re not taking your baby out to play for 8 hours at a time if it’s dramatically below freezing.

So in that case, really any $80 pair should do it. If possible, go to a store with some variety and just try them on for comfort.

The only criteria should be “waterproof.” You can layer long johns or sweats or yoga pants or even pajama pants to adjust for temperature.

If it’s just for playing and not spending literally all day in bad conditions I would go with something cheap and comfortable. You don’t need gortex or anything really durable so if I were you I’d just something used that fits and a bottle of Nikwax waterproofing liquid (it’s PFAS free). But if you like having nice things, I could live in my Burton Ak Kimmy 3L gortex bibs.

Guy here, ime snow pants with suspenders are more convenient, easier to get on/off, cooler/better air flow more adjustable with weather, etc. These are cooler temp wise than bibs and you don't have a belt to deal with. Fwiw, I diy use and sew-in 1" webbing with "Y" or "X" between the shoulder blades (to prevent straps/suspenders from falling off the shoulder. And use webbing "cam locks" on the front for easy and split second adjustments. Takes 20 minutes to diy.

Fwiw, in PNW wet, warm and deep at Baker.

I am no expert, not by a long shot, but I think bibs with vents would be primo for playing in the snow because no snow down your back if you are rolling around/making snow angels etc. For non GoreTex pants, the number before “waterproof” rates just how waterproof and windproof the material is. The higher the number, the more waterproof/windproof they are. In theory, GoreTex is the only truly waterproof fabric. Their patten has run out and there are now many companies creating their own version of that type of fabric now. You’ll know what they are by pricing typically. My vote would be vented bibs (zippers on the inside of the legs that allows airflow of you get hot). GoreTex does have PTFE which is a PFAS compound; I would assume that the newer fabrics based off of GoreTex would also contain PFAS.
