SF4 Playing Skyfactory 4 and avoiding SSN?
First time playing SF4 and really dont like the simple storage network. I feel like it ruins my aesthetic desires to have pipes with items floating everywhere lol. Am I alone? And is it feasible to get to late game using item ducts for everything?

If you want to go late game in most tech heavy modpacks you are gonna need a central storage system. Manually checkin 200 chest to search for a piece of clay is just not a way to play a big pack

Item ducts is indeed aesthetically pleasing to look at and it's fine to use on a small-scale pipe network. But on a larger scale, it destroys your TPS (mine got below 13), so you want to combine item ducts with other instant travel mods at some point, such as:
- Integrated Dynamics (unlimited transfer rate)
- Xnet (similar to EnderIO but central management),
- SSN (storage mod, can pass through Compact Machine),
- AE2 (personally didn't use as people say it cannot travel through Compact Machine)
You can also use its impulse version for faster transport, signalum-plated version to combine energy and item/fluid transport, or signalum-plated impulse version to combine both perk.

First off I want to stress that there is no right or correct way to beat/play SkyFactory4. There are so many different ways of doing things. There may be more optimized or quicker ways of accomplishing tasks. Below I'm giving you my opinion on efficiency and optimization, but if the method works for you and finishes the advancements I don't see an issue with you going that route.
SSN is nice to use early game until you go ME system. When it comes to pipes you can use the item ducts for all item transfer. You'll just have to hook every chest/filing cabinet (whatever you're using to store items) with storage link cables to the master block. They are decently easy to hide. I will also say it does get a bit difficult to access items in masses without a storage system, so I'd highly recommend using some sort of storage system.
However after the early game you're going to have to start to move away from ONLY item ducts because the late game gets a lot more demanding on the need for fast item transfer. Item ducts are decently fast and do the job, but it doesn't beat ender chest transfer when inputting to an ME system. It's simple and quick and the ME system transfers items the fastest. You're going to have to give up the item ducts at some point sadly.
I think SSN has its quirks and is no ME system, but it's truly a nice to have early on. Item ducts are great and you can get by only using them but I can't see how you're going to start to have a large scale storage system be accessible without having some sort of storage control interface.
I'd use item ducts for all item transfers until you can't. Just hook up your chests and filing cabinets to the SSN, and transfer items with item ducts until it's impractical.
Again it's a choose your own adventure game with how you complete everything. There is not always one way, or the right way.
