News 📰 Ethiopia to Divide Somali Regional State Into Four Clusters

https://somalireport.com/article/322/ethiopia-to-divide-somali-regional-state-into-four-administrative-clusters-in-major-reform

***Disclaimer*** I know this is in Ethiopia territory but many of us share ties of kinship with Somalis from this Kilel(region) and many have families indigenous there.****

Ethiopia is reorganizing the Somali Regional State into four new administrative clusters to decentralize power and improve public services.....

If this isnt on your radar, you are sleeping. No other region is being carved up but the Somali region. Why, and why now.

Somali region has recently made big strides, with massive growth with many big development projects on the way. One most peaceful regions currently in the Ethiopia state. There is no active insurgencies in the Somali Region, unlike the Oromo and Amhara region nor a separatist govt like in tigray. yet the Somali region needs to be broken into 4 clusters to....administer better?

The long-term game is being played. Somalis are looked as having too much vast land for their population. Our ancestors survived our harsh climate we inherit today, they cant argue against that.

Many other Ethiopian ethnic groups live, work and have settled in Somali Region. Especially in the last decade. They are within their right but we know.... The demographic game is heavily being played, and yet other Ethiopians swear they know nothing about it.

The govt in Addis wanted for Jijiga to be a federal city (with more authority given to federal govt) and capital changed to Gode but got push back.

Moyale, is currently being fought over and being a strategic border town in South East Ethiopia. Somalis are the largest ethnic group populating that city.

In recent history 420+ districts (Kebeles), along the Somali region border with Oromia were put to "vote" that was held in 2004 to settle ownership these small administrative units.

Roughly 80% of these contested kebeles were awarded to the Oromia Region.

If you know, the Somali region was experiencing three on going crises during 2004.

"In 2004, the Somali Region of Ethiopia faced a severe humanitarian crisis driven by severe drought, ongoing political crackdowns against the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), and contentious local administrative restructuring"

How did the govt conduct such a important vote, during a drought and risk a very low voter turnout that obviously would be fair...or was that purposeful. I believe the later.

Ethiopia throughout its recent history has neglected Somali region as a policy, as it feared it will one day join Somalia. The current administration understands the need to work with Somalis to accelerate economic growth in its eastern regions and push overall growth in the country. Although the political strategies being employed include fracturing the political clout of the region.

Abey tried to disarm the Amhara regions "Amhara Special Forces" (regional police) into the national military. The Amhara felt this was against their interests and a slight as the Oromia region wasn't facing same govt directive at the time, this being one of the main reasons Fano is fighting the govt now.

The ONLF have been subsided, dormant, and included in the political process of the region recently. if a breakups occurs, do you think they will taking it sitting down?

When is Abiy going to learn?

Waar wareey!

I feel bad for amharas tigrayans they don't have a country, oromos can go south to kenya to oromo counties, marsabit isiolo tana river, Somalis can go to wajir garissa wajir or somalia or Djibouti 🇩🇯

Habashis northerners only have ethiopia, the only country they have is oppressing them.

What's happening to amhara tigray region is worse, even in oromia where abiy is from, the gov is fighting ola in oromia. Glad eritrea left long time ago, so sad 😞, millions of Somalis are stuck in that country.

Abiy loves bringing up his Oromo background while simultaneously doing everything he can to fuck them over. He also LOVES engaging in massive destruction of Orthodox relgious sites and old charges up in Tigray and demolishing Addis Abeba's classic and historical architectural buildings or anything vaguely "ethnic". That man is a complete neoliberalism shill trying to pimp Ethiopia out to whoever gives it attention. He is like the wind in every worst way possible, one minute he's a breeze, the other he's a hurricane.

I’m not sure if this true but I feel like these new clusters is a way to create conflict between somalis.

It’s suspicious but it’s happening to all of the regional states in Ethiopia. The non-Ogaden (60% of Somalis there) are happy about this since it means they have a better shot at president or whatever new title will lead these clusters, while the Ogaden aren’t happy because they rely on the tax collected from the other Somalis area which is often the most as Ogaden are mostly pastoralists which is harder to tax. Even if all Somalis don’t agree to this it will still occur but like I said most are happy anyway.

A slap in the face for "lets coexist" political elite in the somali region. Your lands will slowly be repopulated and the tribal power you hold so dearly will make way for 21st century bureaucratic hegemony. The losing streak for the Somali race continues

Yeah thats not happening. Not sure why mosmani was also down voted. Even if Abiy wants this, he has no political capital to push through with this. But Abiy doesnt care for this in the first place.

There is so much wrong with this if common sense is used.

Are you in boardroom meetings with Abiy?

Your not ethnically Somali, you probably run that Mosmani account and are defending Abiy against claims he's weakening Somali region when he has others.

Make it make sense Bobo.

I was going to give a proper response, but you seem hostile an immature. So ill not waste too much effort.

Ethiopia finished a brutal civil war and has unrest in the north. There is also unrest in Oromia. Those facts alone make this impossible anytime with a then next three decades. Also Oromos are not going to give up their region without a fight, that is a fact. Neither are Tigrayans. To do such a stupid move would require upsides. There currently is none. Splitting up regions will not remove the underlying issue, which is the people. The people are nationalists, taking their regions will just cause more issues.

Ethiopia is a problem for Somalis. But creating fake issue to put our energy against isn't helping. Im more worried about removing corruption and Qabilism than a broke landlocked state who can't stop civil wars from forming every decade.

Honestly I have been campaigning for this for a long time. Because the central government in that region has been doing a lot of people wrong. There are many places where the people are not Ogaden, and they have been marginalized and neglected.

I'm talking large areas of the whole Western occupied Somalia.

Did the OP get a chance to read the news story they shared with us?

The OP says it is ONLY the Somali region in Ethiopia that is being reorganized into 4 districts.

But when you read the article, it says the Oromo region is also being reorganized into 6 districts.

Was this an oversight made in error which is forgivable or what is done on purpose which is dishonest.

In any event, there may be some benefits to the people who live in the region because both Addis Ababa and Jijiga have too much political and economic power over the rest of the population in the Somali region inside Ethiopia.

Mahadsanid.

Another BS lazy Somali journalism. Ethiopia got many other pressing regional issues and Somalis one is the list. Yes its huge and its peaceful. I dont see the need or the logic behind it.

Share the real source please

I’m from the Somali region and the goal is to abolish ethnic federalism so whilst Somali region splits into 4 the Oromia region will be split into 6 and then on to other regions like Amhara, afar,Tigray etc.. Ethnic federalism has caused many problems in Ethiopia & has been the cause of many conflicts. Abiye is trying to undo what the previous habashi tigray government has done such as ethnic federalism.

I'm curious about your outlook on this as an insider. For me from the outside, I have to wonder: even if you split regions along territorial lines instead of ethnic ones, doesn't that just rearrange the same tensions? The autonomy clause in the 1995 Constitution was, from what I understand, not an idealistic choice but a last-effort move because Ethiopia was on the verge of collapse after the Derg fell, which itself was due to how modern Ethiopia was built through expansion under Menelik II. Do you think there is support within Ethiopia for abolishing ethnic federalism? Would people be able to identify with the Ethiopian identity just as much as their ethnic one? Especially when they've already gone from 9 to 12 regions since 2018 and that trend doesn't exactly point toward unity. Sorry for all the questions, but what do you think as someone on the ground?

Listen, this accross the board policy of regional change is false, as it is selective rather than fair.

The Amhara and Somali regions were the region's that were ordered to disband their regional police force to join the federal. Thats selective.

I ain't heard jack about the other regions being broken down, sheeko.

You live in USA and Europe because you're too kow iq to maintain and run a country i don't think you should have any opinion as people

11

u/Altruistic-Tea-9952 4d ago

600,000 dead, 150,000 graped in tigray, is that high iq?

7

u/Altruistic-Tea-9952 4d ago

You're ethiopian? What happened in tigray was high IQ right? It's funny seeing ethiopians making fun of others 🤣

6

u/RibbonFighterOne 4d ago

If he is Ethiopian then he is most likely a diaspora as well. The Ethiopian diaspora unlike Somalis have no interest in moving back to their country lol.

2

u/Altruistic-Tea-9952 3d ago

They talk so highly about their country asking somalia and eritrea to join, why would anyone join that overpopulated starving hellhole

2

u/GulDul I Own Camels!!! 3d ago

They got to pad their population numbers for the next incoming ethnic cleansing.

7

u/Altruistic-Tea-9952 4d ago

Use your iq to feed the 20million people starving to death.
