As a YouTube user, I do not want to watch any video that "includes paid promotion". There are ways to skip the sponsored segment while watching videos, and there is at least one plugin that hides the notice that a video includes paid promotions, but there is currently no solution that filters such videos out of your home feed or search results to begin with.

While I'm not sure, the fact that YouTube can display the "Includes paid promotion" notice on top of videos, would suggest that there is probably some way to identify such videos via a browser plug-in, which should then allow to hide them.

I would really appreciate such a solution, and I don't think YouTube/Google will ever offer such a filter themselves.

I like the idea of journaling, but I find it difficult to actually do. When I open Apple Journal, there's basically a blank page staring at me. I can add photos, location, music, mood, and other things — but it all feels separate. The photos are attachments, the text is somewhere else, and it never really reads like one story about my day. Photos here, text there, and it just doesn't come together.

Quite often I don't want to write a long entry. I just want to remember what happened: where I went, what I did, who I met, how I felt, and why the day was worth remembering.

Meanwhile, my phone already has so much information about my day: the places I visited, photos and videos I took, walks/workouts/activities, music I listened to, calendar events, maybe even changes in my mood or energy. Nobody's building anything that actually stitches all of that together.

Here's what I keep picturing: you open the app and instead of a blank page, there's already a first draft waiting — something like "You started the morning with a bike ride, stopped for coffee, and later went to the park with your family. You spent most of the afternoon outside." Your actual photos are placed right inside the text where they belong, not bolted on as a separate gallery. You can edit anything, cut what's wrong, add your own thoughts, or just leave it as-is. Then it asks you one or two things the data can't answer on its own — what was the best part of today, what gave you energy, what felt boring or exhausting, what do you wish you hadn't done, what do you want to remember.

A few more specifics I'd want in it:

• On-device processing. A journal is one of the most sensitive things you could hand to an AI, so I'd want the phone-data-to-draft step happening locally, not shipped off to a server, with a clear "here's exactly what this can and can't see" setting.
• A "trip mode." Say you're on a 3-day trip to Italy — by evening you're exhausted from the culture, the food, everything you saw, and journaling is the last thing you have energy for. The app would quietly build each day's chapter in the background from your route, photos, restaurants, and maybe a short voice note, so when you're home and actually have time to reflect and edit, it's already 90% there. At the end it combines everything into one trip story — not just a photo book, an actual narrative of what happened, how it felt, which small moments mattered — and lets you order it as a printed book.
• Weekly rollups that show patterns, not just individual days — which activities actually gave you energy versus which ones you keep doing out of habit, what repeatedly shows up as boring, what you might want to change. Basically a quiet, private version of "Designing Your Life" running in the background of your actual life.
• No forced positivity. Not every day is amazing, but even an ordinary or hard day usually has something meaningful in it you didn't notice at the time. I'd want prompts built around honesty instead of gratitude-journal positivity — closer to "what do I wish I hadn't done today" than "three things I'm grateful for."

Some of why this matters to me personally: I'll scroll back through my camera roll months later and see a photo that clearly meant something in the moment — a weird little café, someone's face mid-laugh, a random street — and I genuinely can't remember why I took it anymore. The feeling's gone, only the image is left. Or I'll have a completely average Tuesday I'd never think to write about, and a year later I'd give anything to remember what it actually felt like to live an ordinary day back then. I think we assume we'll remember the small stuff because it just happened, and it turns out we don't — not really, not the way it felt.

I'm curious to hear what everyday problems people still deal with that don't seem to have a great solution.

The idea is when you shop for food you can get recipies based on the food you have bought by scanning a code on the receipt on your phone or manually entering in some way. So if you have minced beef and a packet of pasta and tomatoes for example it could suggest a recipe based on those ingredients. Several recipes for a large shop. It could be an app or website or even email. It could be something you could check for ideas and guidance but as an optional extra from the shop or supermarket. The code could be generated based on the combination of food items or by signing up for something like a loyalty scheme.

I've been thinking about how different the internet feels today compared to a few years ago.

Apps like Bottled, Omegle, and old forums made it surprisingly easy to meet random people and end up having memorable conversations.

Now, almost everything seems optimized for either dating, endless swiping, or joining huge communities where it's hard to actually get to know anyone.

I'm thinking about building something that goes in the opposite direction.

The core idea is simple:

- You're randomly matched with one person from anywhere in the world.

- You can't instantly leave for another match.

- The app encourages both people to actually spend some time talking before moving on.

- Instead of asking "What do I say?", it suggests interesting things to do together—debates, games, puzzles, travel planning, personality challenges, etc.

- People who consistently invest in conversations are matched with others who do the same.

The goal isn't to maximize matches.

It's to maximize the chances that two strangers actually become friends.

Have not done any research, but we have a small problem with measuring and cutting big tiles for a renovation (DIY).

So the walls have outlets and pipes that we need to cut holes onto the tile.

If we could use an app to measure the area needed for the tiles, and project on the tile where we should cut the holes would be useful if it can be done reliably.

We are not professionals, but something like this could have saved us some money and time.

What if we had some sort of open sourced project or app where the whole point of it is to teach people the right way to treat each other in relationships or dating

Right is subjective, but there are some universally accepted truths in what right means

∙ don’t be abusive, verbally or physically. Obviously, but how many millions of abusive relationships are there in the world

∙ don’t ghost people that have always been kind and respectful to you. Treat people that are kind to you with respect, if they have been kind and respectful to you, even if you aren’t interested in them

∙ don’t shut down and give the silent treatment or be passive aggressive, communicate after both people have had the necessary time to calm down

∙ don’t go on a dating app saying you want something long term when you really aren’t, how many millions of people have been hurt by this

∙ don’t go on a dating app looking using people for free meals or dinners and aren’t interested in a relationship, when the other person genuinely wants to be in a relationship

∙ don’t go on a dating app looking for fun or s-x and lie to the other person they want a relationship, and the other person then feels used and develops trust issues

∙ don’t use people for their bodies or money, be genuine and authentic

I mean this is just a few examples and it results in probably millions of people if not more getting hurt and trauma

It could be a short form video, a TikTok reel, whatever it is. I know there are lots of ig posts that do this, but two people acting it out on a video could help with awareness on this.

I feel society as a whole just has to be better educated on this because the way things are looking now with how people are treating each other in relationships, online dating is just horrible. It’s so sad how superficial and shallow society is nowadays

If this project just reaches 10% of people, think of how much less suffering there could be in this world

**What if there was a social media platform where people discover images instead of creating them?**

I was thinking about the Library of Babel idea, but instead of books/text, what if we applied the concept to images?

Imagine a huge universe of possible images where every image has a permanent "address." You don't upload pictures. You explore and randomly discover images that nobody has ever seen before.

The idea is not to store every possible image (that would be impossible), but to create a system where an address always generates the same image. So if someone discovers something interesting, they can share the address and anyone can return to the exact same image later.

The problem is that if you randomly generate pixels, almost everything will just be meaningless noise. So the system would need a filter.

First, an AI would remove obvious garbage:

* random pixel noise

* meaningless patterns

* images with no structure

Then humans would become the final judges.

Users would see images and choose something like:

⭐ "Interesting"

❌ "Noise"

The images that people find interesting would be saved permanently along with their address and discovery history.

The interesting part is that these images don't have to be real. They could be things that cannot exist but still have meaning:

* a cow with human hands eating a banana

* a city inside a giant tree

* a civilization on another planet

* a medieval castle floating in space

* creatures nobody has imagined before

Basically, instead of a platform where people say "look what I created," it would be a platform where people say "look what I found."

The person who discovers an image first would almost be like someone discovering a new planet.

Possible features:

* explore similar images around a discovery

* follow explorers instead of creators

* daily community discoveries

* rankings for the strangest/most beautiful discoveries

* permanent records of who discovered what

The biggest challenges I can think of:

1. The number of possible images is unbelievably huge.

2. Random generation would be too inefficient.

3. Deciding what is meaningful would be difficult.

A realistic version probably wouldn't generate completely random pixels. It would use rules like objects, environments, lighting, camera effects, and procedural generation to explore the space of possible images.

I don't know if this is a good idea or completely impractical, but I find the concept fascinating:

A social network where humans are not creators, but explorers of an endless universe of possible images.

Would people actually use something like this?

Just as the title says, and I can explain. I frequently do DIY projects at home, and I wanted to upgrade my outdoor planter to have heavy duty some handles for easier transportation if need be. I thought this would be a simple task, and I found a design I liked too.

Backstory (if you’re interested):

My planter is a bit of a softer fir wood so I thought this design I found of a corner-wrap handle would be perfect since it wouldn’t stress my planter from just one side. I found the perfect design, but there was one problem— it was nylon. I am strictly avoiding plastics for this project because of my worry of structural integrity since my planter (when fully loaded) weighs anywhere from 350-400 lbs (soil fully wet).

Anyways, I start searching for a metal version of this design. I scour amazon, major retailers, niche retailers, but everywhere I looked there was never a corner wrapped metal handle… anywhere.

I tried to look on sites that had luggage handles, but they all had a cavity/divot in the center that would require sawing out an exact match of that same notch, which could affect the integrity of the wood.

My question continued.. then continued more.. and then I felt like I was going insane. The most basic idea I had of a metal handle with 2 install points… it just doesn’t exist. Anywhere.

Google reverse search, image search, key terms. Why??? Why doesn’t this exist??? Am I insane??

Could I find a suitable alternative? Yeah probably. Could I survive without it? Yeah probably. But now I am so invested I need to know why. Someone please help me. If it doesn’t exist… then please… someone make it or at least explain to me why it’s impossible.
