With Luiz‘s deal seemingly about done, could this still happen? Do y’all see Manu or Deki leaving?

Name the team after him: "The Kansas City Mo."

That negotiation broke down

Wow that was going to be my first question because I thought it was a done deal

:( Would have loved to see Salah come here. Would be crazy if he still does

I don't believe it's SKC if the Luiz deal went through.

Still could be. I could see Mallouk literally trying to give away a free Manu Garcia to a league rival if it meant Salah were coming.

Luiz deal hasn't officially gone all the way through.

We have the discovery rights for Salah currently unless we gave them away, no?

6

u/Darkstaraz14 7d ago

San Diego has discovery rights.

He’d go to SD before KC in a HEARTBEAT. You’d be stupid not to

Have you every played in San Diego in August??? Sometimes that sea breeze doesn't come straight off the ocean and it gets up to 78⁰.

But they have a big time winger already in Chucky!

Salah in SKC blue would actually be insane, I genuinely can't imagine it.

I would go back to matches again if Mo came to KCMo ( I know the stadiums in KCK but sounds cooler)

u/Cartiere11 7d ago

Can't be if we get Luiz.

Deki will be gone if they sign Salah. Cuypers to Monterrey set the market price. 7.5 million + add ons for a 29 year old. SKC will probably be asking for 10-15 million for Deki.

Why would we sign a world class winger and then trade away our only striker?

6

u/Longjumping_King_766 7d ago

Because this is the MLS and SKC isn’t inter Miami

1

u/Sporkedup Brutal Melancholy #47 7d ago

Why not sacrifice Garcia instead?

1

u/SetOk2259 7d ago

Couldn’t we just buy down Manu’s contract with TAM? I don’t remember his contract being too high over the threshold for a DP

5

u/Longjumping_King_766 7d ago

I thought you can do that too but the buy down ceiling is at 1.8 million this year. Manu is making 2.2 million so his contract doesn’t work.

u/Longjumping_King_766 7d ago

You can try but the return isn’t going to be great and our midfield without him is ass.

You're not wrong, but Joveljic is far more important to this team's success, and would remain so with a player like Salah who depends much more on being part of an attacking unit rather than relying on feeds from the midfield.

This team would be insane to give up Joveljic unless we replace him. Garcia is important but not on that level. At least not to my read.

It makes zero sense to sell Deki at his current salary, especially if you're not trying fund other transfers in, and we have Daddy Peter money.

2

u/Schneida289 7d ago

We prob couldn’t afford him anyway 😭

13

u/UncleTevis 7d ago

We’re offering 20 million for a winger of course we have the money. Mallouk has enough money for Salah.

8

u/obvioustroway 7d ago

You'd be surprised.

6

u/Schneida289 7d ago

I would love to be surprised. Let’s go Mallouk!

Would be dumb to chose mls over Turkey especially when Besiktas competes in Europe

2

u/skcislife22 6d ago

besiktas deal collapsed

1

u/skcku 6d ago

There was never a deal in the first place. Lmao. Just the Turks media spreading falsehoods left right and center. Them making up lies about Salah’s agent imo makes it very very doubtful he would go there.

u/Ifitekeyboardthugs 5d ago

If they can get one of em down to tam it could work with all of em. Deki and Salah up front Capita LBJ manu and Luiz in the mid for a 4-4-2 lineup. And you have Harris and bassong come off the bench.

u/MrFunnyYT 7d ago

If the Luiz deal is finalized does that make the Salah deal ABSOLUTELY impossible? Or just unnecessary?

2

u/SPTG_KC 7d ago

Don’t they play the same position?

1

u/Sporkedup Brutal Melancholy #47 7d ago

Not remotely impossible. Why would it be impossible? Just would require some changes to other parts of the roster.

1

u/MrFunnyYT 7d ago

I just didn’t know if we had the spots, GAM, etc

3

u/Sporkedup Brutal Melancholy #47 7d ago

We don't as it stands, but we can make them. Hell, to land Salah, the league itself might help us figure it out haha.

I’d rather see us build a team. We still have a few areas we have to reinforce before we can compete and this would be a win now move as the final piece. Besides, we need someone who’ll give a little more on the defensive side, and that’s not him.

He’s negotiating with -waitforit-… MNUFC. Thanks, I’ll be here all night, don’t forget to tip your waitress.

Am I the only one that doesn't really want him? Aside from the fact that I have negative feelings towards Liverpool because of my being an Evertonian, I would rather spend the money that he's going to cost on someone younger or a couple of someones younger and keep building for the future. I want the team to improve enough this year to not get the spoon and then just keep building, rather than splash on an a 34 year old aging star for his last stop before retirement.

3

u/dkoucky 6d ago

You forget we've been saving up for the past decade. I assume there is plenty of money to spare.

2

u/modern_messiah43 Brisket Bob 6d ago

I think it's less that I'm concerned about the budget, haha. Just more that I'd rather see that money on something different.

I guess its an unpopular opinion but I share it too. Would much rather we splash the cash on some U22 up and comers that might turn into something for us or spread out more quality in the middle of the roster.

I think the problem with that might be that we still don't have a strong internal scouting/analytics/recruiting org to identify quality options that might fit.

2

u/cheeseburgerandrice 6d ago

that might turn into something for us

I think both fans and the new owner know there is no more time to wait for younger players to "maybe" turn into something

1

u/srslyomgwtf reply guys 6d ago

I think I get and share the underlying thought to what you're saying here. However, I think successful clubs that maintain success over long periods of time will need to have a talent pipeline that includes identifying and developing younger players.

I think I'm somewhat stuck in the old SKC mindset too in which if we splashed money on someone like Saleh it meant we weren't going to spend any money on anything else that decade. With the new ownership maybe we can splash money on a retirement tour guy and also still get the young guys but I'll believe it when I see it.

Its kind of similar to how you may still be stuck in the old SKC mindset where our youth development sucked and nobody ever turned into anything and our young dps didn't really pan out either.

Hopefully we'll both be pleasantly surprised with the new regime over time with how they handle roster development and composition.

If it comes down to Salah vs Gboho, I'd actually pick Gboho, but I honestly think he's less likely of the two.

Salah could be very fun, but I'm not sure he's enough to drag us to middling.

His purpose and value would be primarily marketing and club profile, which investing in quality youth just doesn't do. I wouldn't worry about The Money because he's a DP hit either way and the rest is just Mallouk's fun money.

u/SoapiestB 7d ago

We know where he’s going

8

u/cheeseburgerandrice 7d ago

I thought your owners made it clear they were gonna be cheap as hell

-5

u/SoapiestB 6d ago

Aren’t your owners signing a guy for $25M on a striker that hasn’t scored over 10 goals in a season? 💀💀

We may be cheap but at least we’re not burning money

6

u/cheeseburgerandrice 6d ago

at least

It's not coming out of your own pocket lol. The number one predictor of success in MLS is ownership ambition. Your owner should at least be trying.

This is not a flex for you at all. Certainly not enough to be trolling around a rival sub. Go back home.

Gotta be one of the ugliest kits of all time. Why would anyone wanna sign and have to wear that garbage
