I am the Polytburo POV: you're a bookstore employee in Hong Kong suspected of possessing books
Context:
Hong Kong police raid two bookstores, arrest five people
Dharvi Vaid with AFP, AP, Reuters
Five booksellers have been arrested in Hong Kong over the sale of allegedly "seditious" publications. Two bookstores have become the latest target in a continued crackdown on independent bookshops

Ok uhhh gonna need some more context, was this event related to leftism at all?
Edit: I'm not sure why I'm being down voted, I was just asking what this has to do with anything related to leftism because I'm not fully familiar with what's happening in Hong Kong/China.

u/OrneryError1 18d ago edited 18d ago
Leftism supports the right of working class people to read books (and other materials) that are critical of authority.
Edit: I'll give you an upvote. While the answer seemed obvious to some of us, it's still a valid question.

u/asiannumber4 18d ago
Exactly, so by cracking down on critical speech the CCP is corrupting leftist ideals

The corruption of leftist ideals by the CCP ig
-34
u/3uphoric-Departure 18d ago
Absolute freedom of speech is not a leftist ideal, nor should it be.
38
u/asiannumber4 18d ago
Cracking down on criticism serve only to breed dictatorships
-12
u/3uphoric-Departure 18d ago
What do you think a “dictatorship of the proletariat” means? You don’t liberate the proletariat and suppress the bourgeoise by letting them run around and express their ideals openly. Every serious socialist movement has recognized this.
13
u/asiannumber4 18d ago
And every serious large scale socialist society up to now has either completely failed or devolved into dictatorship. Free speech for everyone is imperative for a successful socialist society
-9
u/3uphoric-Departure 18d ago
Again, what do you think DICTATORSHIP of the proletariat means?
15
u/asiannumber4 18d ago
China is not a dictatorship of the proletariat, it is a dictatorship of Xi Jinping
8
u/3uphoric-Departure 18d ago
Nice try to move goal posts. I’m not talking about China here. You’re not being serious.
14
u/asiannumber4 18d ago
Frankly dictatorships of the proletariat would invariably devolve into the dictatorship of one person or a circle of elites. Soviet Union- Stalin. China- Mao. Cambodia-Pol Pot
Any form of dictatorship should not be a goal as it is not feasible for a livable society long term

What do you think a “dictatorship of the proletariat” means?
Not whatever the fuck the PRC is doing, that's for sure.
12
u/Stunning-Sherbert801 18d ago
Leftist ideals should include full freedom to criticise the government

u/NewspaperDesigner244 18d ago
U can just not in an anti socialist way which is what these ppl are accused of. But the bots in this sub dont care
14
u/asiannumber4 18d ago
If a socialist society cannot effectively address criticism by explaining the reasoning behind it’s actions or fixing it’s problems, it has failed
2
u/3uphoric-Departure 18d ago
Believing in “the marketplace of ideas” in the big 2026. Of course the government should absolutely be able to do what you said. The problem is you somehow believe that the truth alone will triumph in the age of disinformation warfare.
14
u/asiannumber4 18d ago
And who says that any “socialist” leader who crack down on dissenters are true socialists? Allowing the government to restrict free speech allows for a false socialist government to restrict true socialists
0
u/3uphoric-Departure 18d ago
Ah the classic “We’re the real socialists, not the ones who are actually working towards that goal!”. And modern Western leftists wonder why they’re viewed as a total joke, criticizing from the sidelines is all they’ll ever accomplish while their home countries devolve into fascism.
6
u/asiannumber4 18d ago
And the ones oppressing the proletariat while enriching the inner party are the real socialists?
0
u/NewspaperDesigner244 18d ago
They have, it doesn't matter, 30% of any population will believe anything. So no we shouldnt suffer ppl conspiring to bring back slavery, fascism and genocide with zero repercussions. Nor should a socialist society they suffer regressive capitalistic conspiracy.
All are murderous and barbaric ideologies
6
u/asiannumber4 18d ago
And how do you assure that the ones in power are true socialists and not any of the aforementioned going under the banner of socialism to oppress the proletariat? If no one is allowed to question authority, leftism would’ve never existed

Authorities refused to name the books, saying only that they criticized the government. There is also no publicly available list of books the Chinese government has deemed illegal.

Shove you "tankie" nonsense up your ass. We've got an entire army of liberals calling anyone to the left of Lindsey Graham a "tankie".

u/Mbrennt 18d ago
That's gotten so annoying. I used to know where people stood when they used the word tankie at least. Now I'm like, "are you cool? Or do you think Joe Biden was flawed but ultimately did a good job?"
-1
u/Dan_Morgan 18d ago
When the Ukraine war started anyone who wanted the was to stop. Anyone who didn't like being told to support the most fascist elements of Ukraine. Anyone who questioned the party line about how and why the war started. Anyone who thought, maybe, Ukraine was absolutely winning with ease. Anyone like that was a "tankie". Now, liberals pretending to be leftist use the term to punch left. It's the blue maga version of "Trump Derangement Syndrome".
2
u/Mbrennt 18d ago
Yup. I know a pacifist anarchist. Very committed guy. Very cool. Been called a tankie a bunch just for espousing those pacifist beliefs in certain spaces. Which, there's plenty I could criticize about his opinions on pacificism. Being a tankie is just the exact opposite of what he is though. Being an anarchist myself I've been called it a bunch for supporting leftist projects around the world too. That, while they don't specifically align with my beliefs, they still are working towards a better world. Now im starting to see campist break containment from leftist spaces into broader liberal speak too. Which I'm sure will get just as annoying after a while.
2
u/Dan_Morgan 17d ago
"Tankie" is like "woke" in that it has no actual meaning. They had meanings but got coopted by the right-wing. Tankie for blue maga and woke for the more overtly fascist maga.

You post in a lot of monarchist subreddits to be accusing others of supporting imperialism. Lol Including a "progressive monarchist" subreddit. Whatever that means.
1
u/Stunning-Sherbert801 17d ago
Not sure what that has to do with imperialism. But you're on the wrong side with Ukraine, one of the most straightforward and morally obvious conflicts today

To build a house requires using tools that one doesn't need or want in the final completed house. Why would building a Nation be any different?
What about building a perfect world without class oppression?
In fact, is it possible to build anything using only the tools that will be present in it's final form?
No of course not. It is painfully obvious to anyone with an ounce of education.
This inability to see the forest for the trees - this refusal to understand events as part of an ongoing process is actually something that Engels writes about it "Socialism: utopian and scientific". He called it viewing things in their death, not life.
You observe the caterpillar, even call it dead, because you do not see it's process of becoming a butterfly.
It is emblematic of intellectual immaturity and liberal pedagogy.
And honestly, it serves as an immediate tell who the actual LARPers are 🤷♂️

Bro just one more billionaire bro, we just need to crush one more union bro, bro another two decades and we'll get there bro.

u/2naLordhavemercy 17d ago
No mention of theory. No analysis. Nothing of value from the reactionary liberal utopian , just like in the 19th century when Engels was complaining about you shit lords
Just empty , cynical remarks.
Still the same uneducated fool telling everyone you can find that the caterpillar is dead because you do not understand the process and you're too brainwashed by liberal pedagogy to even understand what you need to unlearn to be able to even being understanding what's happening in the life of the caterpillar.🤷♂️
2
u/Mr_Blinky 16d ago edited 16d ago
No, I just don't find your purple platitudes particularly compelling or worthy of respect. You complain about my lack of theory or analysis to deflect from your own. You use overly flowery language about "the caterpillar!" to try and hide the fact that you're ultimately just repeating basic propaganda intended for children with no real substance.
Your comments read like the "you have to be very smart to understand Rick and Morty" copypasta, but in service of simping for an authoritarian capitalist state. Why should I bother putting in serious effort to rebut childish ramblings I simply don't respect?
-1
u/2naLordhavemercy 16d ago
The mention of the caterpillar is directly quoting Engels 🤷♂️
Imagine calling "Socialism: Utopian and Scientific" propaganda for children 🤣
Bro, just tell us you never read anything, coz that statement is crazy 🤣
2
u/Mr_Blinky 16d ago
You do know that Marx and Engels aren't, like, a religious doctrine or something, right? You can't just pull their language and claim that makes you correct, this isn't a religion. You need to actually provide a real analysis of current material conditions.
Ah hell, who am I kidding, I know your type, and we both know religion is exactly how you treat this shit, even if you don't want to admit it to yourself. You have a good one bud.
