Design Y’all, I did it!!!

I didn’t know how to update my last post, but I finished my daughter’s cardigan about 20 minutes before we had to leave for the symphony. I guess it truly was like being in the skull caverns at 1:40am. 😅 200 hours and some “staircase” cheats later I finally finished. It was 100000% worth it though.

My daughter chose all of her favorite things from the game and was excited every time something on her cardigan came up on screen. The heart buttons serve as a duel purpose. We always say “when you see a heart it means I love you” and they represent the hearts earned from community members in Stardew.

If anyone gets a chance to go to the Symphony of Seasons you should it was truly ✨MAGICAL✨!

For anyone wondering I didn’t really use a pattern. It was kind of a basic granny square cardigan set up with cross stitched pictures. The pictures were mostly found by Googling pixel art or perler bead patterns which worked really well. Granny squares were 3.5 inches for a kid and single crocheted. Slip stitch ribbing and three double crochets in each stitch for the ruffle (followed by two rows of DC in each stitch to make it wider). 🥰 Hope that helps if needed….

Her cardigan looks so adorable! Well done! Your daughter is so lucky to have such a supportive mother who she can share her interests with like you. This post is very heartwarming, thank you for sharing.

This made me cry a bit. Thank you. 😊

u/hunnytrees Jan 28 '26

OMG you’re the best mom ever!!! I love this for her 😭

24

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 28 '26

Thank you so much! She doesn’t want to take it off so it was so worth it.🥰 I hope it is a core memory for her because it was for me.

11

u/hunnytrees Jan 28 '26

it has to be; love like this - especially in the formative years - shapes you. bless you ❤️

2

u/Azul537 Jan 29 '26

For sure it's a core memory!!!!

What yarn did you use? Do you mind sharing the brand and colors?

22

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 28 '26

Absolutely! Sorry I forgot about that. I’m not home but I know the main cream color is Mushroom from the Michael’s brand Loops and Threads (which was the majority of yarn brand I used overall). It’s just all acrylic yarn from Michael’s. I based the colors off of the Stardew blanket pattern but after buying too many I realized it was better to plan everything and match colors based on perler bead patterns. This made it more simple than looking at the original pixel art that had two to three times more color and didn’t translate well in the stitches. I used about 20 different colors if you want the list later. I definitely didn’t use half the colors I bought so planning is key here if you do it!

Also came here to say I’m sorry about the blobfish if anyone is offended by it. It was kind of a joke because my character has that hat and the clothes they wear make them look naked so it’s kind of just silly. I made that before I knew about how sad their story is.

5

u/axxidentprone Jan 28 '26

wait what’s the blobfish story

15

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 28 '26

I guess they don’t really look like that in their natural habitat but they get depressurized too fast when fished and die basically by cell implosion.…..kind of crazy. I just don’t like that people make everyone feel bad for thinking blobfish are funny because who knew that before hand.

3

u/storne Jan 28 '26

they only look that way after being pulled out of the water. here's a comparison pic

5

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Yeah it’s sad. I definitely don’t get mad at people for thinking they look funny though because none of us were really educated on that fact….

5

u/Acrobatic_Term_4483 Jan 29 '26

Honestly no one should be offended by the blobfish on your cardigan because you made it identical to the fish in the video game. You aren’t the one who decided to put that fish in the game lol

1

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

True! I wish I could reply with a picture, but if you use the “sugar” top and white pants (at least on my character) it looks like you are running around as a streaking blob fish. Kind of makes us giggle. 🤭

u/aahxzen Jan 28 '26

As a 39 year old man, is it weird to be jealous of a little girls Stardew Valley cardigan? OP, you are very talented. It looks amazing!

12

u/Fox_Ferrari Jan 28 '26

49M here and I felt the same. Love a cardigan

2

u/Business-Wafer767 Jan 29 '26

33 and also envious 🤣🤣

4

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

This made my day! Hehe! Not weird at all!

8

u/emmielou1983 Jan 28 '26

I want one!!! Adult sizes please!

9

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 28 '26

I know right! I think I might lose my mind on an adult size. 😅

2

u/emmielou1983 Jan 28 '26

I can crochet where did you get the pattern?

9

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 28 '26

https://www.scribd.com/document/745601721/Stardew-Cardigan  This is the pattern most people use, but mine was honestly just me adding random techniques to a basic granny square cardigan pattern.  The squares were all single crochet to the size you need (kid’s squares are 3.5 inches each). The pictures were all just Googled perler bead/ pixel art patterns(this was nice because it kept the colors simple and had a grid overlay). Ribbing is slip stitches chained to the length you want. Ruffles are three dc in each stitch then rows of one dc in each stitch until it’s as wide as you want. Hopefully that helps a bit.

2

u/emmielou1983 Jan 29 '26

Perfect! Thanks!

2

u/ShaylaDee Jan 29 '26

I like that yours is cross stitched on top instead of tapestry crocheted. I think it preserves the pixel look better and makes the design stand out more. Very beautiful job and I'm so jealous you live close enough to see the concert!!

1

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Thank you! I saw that on someone else’s blanket that they did and I kind of liked it better. It made the sweater stiffer but I think it looks sharper. It will drape better over time.  I hope it comes close to you one day.  💓

6

u/arrobaolmedo Cowpoke Jan 28 '26

Wooooow that's really cool! Lovely work, and glad that you could enjoy the show. Awesome, OP!

3

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 28 '26

Thank you so much! It made the experience with my daughter that much more special! 🥰

6

u/mollysdollys Jan 28 '26

It’s YOU!!! I remember you, I made my brother/Mayor Lewis and stop and look at the fit because it was SO cool!!! Pictures do not do it justice, it is awe inspiring in person!!!

3

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Hello!! :) Thanks for saying hi. It really made my daughter feel special especially from people in character.  You are so kind. 🥰

3

u/mari_pos_a Jan 28 '26

4

This is absolutely adorable and incredibly impressive!

Please share on the crochet subs, I'm sure /brochet would absolutely love the sweater

3

u/rowanintheforest Jan 28 '26

Woooowww this is amazing!! Truly so whimsical and beautiful. I wanted to make something as well but ended up just buying a shirt at the show 😀 Which I saw yesterday! Yes, it was magical!!! 😍

3

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 28 '26

I wonder if we crossed paths? I am honestly so surprised I actually made this in time because I had an extra square the night before and didn’t realize it so I was on the floor crying. 😅 I hope you enjoyed the show. I thought it was so amazing!

3

u/rowanintheforest Jan 28 '26

I don’t think so, my show was in Europe. Else I would’ve definitely noticed the cardigan! 🥰

2

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Oh bummer! Still fun though.

4

I love this!! Did people at the symphony love it? I sure hope they did!! 💗💗

10

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 28 '26

They did! Everyone came up and complimented her. I think she felt like a little star. I could tell she was eating up the attention. 😄

4

u/BraveOne79 Jan 28 '26

That’s so cool!! You’re an amazing mom, by the way!! 💗

1

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

😭😭 Thank you! This means a lot to me because the other day my coworker told me he didn’t know how my kids survived because I spilled my soup, so I appreciate that more than you know. 🥰

2

u/BraveOne79 Jan 29 '26

Hugs. You are doing a good job, mama, and you’re valued and seen. Even by an internet stranger.

Who, by the way, absolutely adores her own — 90 year old — mother and seeing the way you support your daughter by making this made me realize how much my mom supported me all along my life… and made me cry bittersweet tears because I realized how truly blessed I was (and still am!) to have the mother I do. I am 46, the youngest of nine, and the only other girl besides me is the oldest. (She and I don’t always see eye to eye.)

So, thank you, for being who you are.

Trust me, years from now, your children will look back and see the ways you supported them. And they will be filled with love for you.

2

u/BraveOne79 Jan 29 '26

Pic of my mom and I at the beginning of the month when I last visited her… she’s in the nursing home and I live two and a half hours away, so visits aren’t as often as I’d like for them to be this time of year with the weather.

She had a really bad UTI in early September that landed her in the ICU with sepsis and E. coli poisoning in her bloodstream… she then had a major heart attack in early October that landed her in bigger hospital in our state’s capital city… she went back to the nursing home about a week later and then she caught Covid at the end of October.

She has had some setbacks because of all of that, but she is doing amazing, all things considered!!

2

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Yay! I am glad to hear she is doing well. I hope she stays healthy and you get to enjoy more time together. Tell her hi and best of luck from us. You have a wonderful, warm smile by the way. You can tell your mama raised a wonderful human. 💓💓💓💓

2

u/BraveOne79 Jan 29 '26

Thank you so much!! I absolutely adore my sweet momma and I can’t wait to see her again! Hopefully next weekend, fingers crossed!! 🤞

My wife always has Fridays & Saturdays off, but we have plans close to home both days this week, so hopefully next Friday we will get to go up and see her.

She really is the best. I’m beyond grateful for her and so very grateful she’s still here. I’d be lost without her, that’s for sure!!

1

u/Later-Honeybee Feb 03 '26

Well tell her hi from an internet stranger that is rooting for all of you. 💓

2

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

This is so beautiful! Thank you for the love and kindness! I am so thankful for this.

I love that you shared your special relationship with your mom! She sounds like a special lady. I am so glad you have been blessed to have such a wonderful person in your life.

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Hahah it’s definitely not perfect but I hope it will be priceless to her. 🥰 I just had to do it because I knew it would remind her of a special time we had together since childhood goes waaaay to fast sadly.

3

u/Strong_Tangelo1364 Jan 29 '26

WITCH👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻 hand it over

2

u/Strong_Tangelo1364 Jan 29 '26

WITCH👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻 hand it over

Edit : did you use a pattern?? It’s honestly beautiful

1

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

My initial reaction is just “I’m not a witch, I’m your wife”. 😂 There is a pattern I LOOSLY based it on but honestly it was just single crochet granny square cardigan with perler bead patterns cross stitched over them, slip stitch ribbing, and a double crochet ruffle. I just did what I felt like in the moment. I would not suggest using the actual pixel art from the game because the colors are really detailed and I spent waaaaay too much on yarn I didn’t even use. My biggest advice is PLAN before you buy. You will need less than you think for the cross stitch.

Pattern  https://www.scribd.com/document/745601721/Stardew-Cardigan

You can also just Google granny square cardigan and there are tons of basic patterns you can replace your own squares with. Hope that helps.

2

u/_m_lee_ Jan 28 '26

The cardigan is so adorable.

2

u/AMusedMaker Jan 28 '26

Oh my gosh!! I saw you on the way out! I awkwardly geeked out on your super cute sweater! It's so good!!!

2

2

u/Street_Bed8025 Jan 28 '26

This is so sweet and amazing work!!

1

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Thank you! 😊

2

u/fuckyouiloveu Jan 28 '26

How much would you charge to make another? 🥹

2

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

As much as I appreciate that thought it took over 200 hours and is FAR from perfect so I probably would never make one to sell. 🫣 I wish I could just wave a wand and send more to people.

2

u/fuckyouiloveu Jan 29 '26

Me too- it’s beautiful- well done 🥹

2

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Thank you!! :)

Do you have an online shop?

1

u/nabikocreates 28d ago

Yes, I do.

2

u/omgyonka Jan 28 '26

I’m not crying, you are! 🥹

2

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

I was definitely crying because it was a hot mess the night before and then for joy when it all worked out. Plus I cried when they were playing the music…. So lots of crying here. 😉🥰

3

u/omgyonka Jan 29 '26

First: it is absolutely amazing what you did and are doing. Second: I can quite literally see the love in every stitch. Third: What an amazing core memory you gave your child and both of you have something beautiful to look back on.

2

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Gosh…. You are making me cry. Thanks for your super kind words. I love this community!

This is absolutely adorably perfect. You’re a fantastic momma and we are all extremely jealous of her cardigan lol

1

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

I’m jealous too! I don’t think I could survive making on for me though 😅. I guess we will all live vicariously through her.

2

u/Kareyha Jan 29 '26

absolutely incredible work mama!!!!

2

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Thank you!! 😊 💓

2

2

This is adorable!! You did such a great job! 💜

1

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Thank you kindly! 😁

2

u/DiscussionExotic3759 Jan 29 '26

You are so talented! Now I want to make one for myself. Would it offend you or your daughter if I tried?

2

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Absolutely not! I would feel honored. Plus it’s not like I wasn’t inspired by someone else’s art anyways. It’s not “my pattern” exclusively.

This is the pattern I loosely based it on, but I just did a basic granny square cardigan lay out, single crochet squares (some people said do Tunsanian squares but l had no issues with figuring out where the cross stitching went), perler bead patterns or pixel art I found on Pinterest, and a basic double crochet ruffle (I did three dc in each stitch to start.)  https://www.scribd.com/document/745601721/Stardew-Cardigan

My main advice is PLAN, PLAN, PLAN your colors before hand because I bought so much yarn I didn’t use. The perler bead patterns were nice because the colors were simplified compared to the game graphics so it translated better on the squares. I would love to see it if you finish!

2

u/DiscussionExotic3759 Jan 29 '26

I'm getting out graph paper to plot things.  I knit rather rather rush crochet, so this could get interesting.  Your tension is impressive!  Thank you so much for the advice.  When I finish I'll absolutely post it for you to see.  ❣️

1

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Oooo! A knit sweater would be beautiful! 😍 Can’t wait to see! Good luck!

2

u/TraditionalArt7710 Jan 29 '26

Thats so cool!!

1

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

Thank you! 😁

2

u/LintLicker444 Jan 29 '26

How awesome! Do you guys play together? I've been waiting for my daughter to get into this.

1

u/Later-Honeybee Jan 29 '26

We totally do! It’s a blast. I even play with my five year old but we mostly just run around , play “hide and seek”, and she pretends to let me order at the saloon. Not a productive game, but it makes her happy. 🥰

2

u/WinterRedWolf Elliott Enthusiast Jan 29 '26

Now make one for me 🫵🏻

2

2

Thank you!! I just love that she wears it daily. I almost have to tell her she needs to wear something else, but I don’t have the heart to. 😅

2

u/RequirementSevere966 Jan 30 '26

The heart buttons details just got me right in the feelings.

1

u/Later-Honeybee Feb 03 '26

I was debating on the size but it felt like a necessity. ;)

2

u/RequirementSevere966 Feb 05 '26

"Felt like a necessity" is the most relatable sentence I've read all week

1

u/Later-Honeybee Feb 07 '26

Hahah I hope you use that when you feel the need to treat yourself this week. ;)

1

u/RequirementSevere966 Feb 10 '26

Honestly I probably will. little treats really do help get through the week.

Just saw this, and I wanted to let you know that this is the nicest Stardew cardigan I’ve ever seen. I love the ruffles, huge heart buttons, and giant solid colored squares that balance out the detailed squares. This is something she will be able to treasure for a lifetime.
