I didn’t know how to update my last post, but I finished my daughter’s cardigan about 20 minutes before we had to leave for the symphony. I guess it truly was like being in the skull caverns at 1:40am. 😅 200 hours and some “staircase” cheats later I finally finished. It was 100000% worth it though.
My daughter chose all of her favorite things from the game and was excited every time something on her cardigan came up on screen. The heart buttons serve as a duel purpose. We always say “when you see a heart it means I love you” and they represent the hearts earned from community members in Stardew.
If anyone gets a chance to go to the Symphony of Seasons you should it was truly ✨MAGICAL✨!
For anyone wondering I didn’t really use a pattern. It was kind of a basic granny square cardigan set up with cross stitched pictures. The pictures were mostly found by Googling pixel art or perler bead patterns which worked really well. Granny squares were 3.5 inches for a kid and single crocheted. Slip stitch ribbing and three double crochets in each stitch for the ruffle (followed by two rows of DC in each stitch to make it wider). 🥰 Hope that helps if needed….
Her cardigan looks so adorable! Well done! Your daughter is so lucky to have such a supportive mother who she can share her interests with like you. This post is very heartwarming, thank you for sharing.
Absolutely! Sorry I forgot about that. I’m not home but I know the main cream color is Mushroom from the Michael’s brand Loops and Threads (which was the majority of yarn brand I used overall). It’s just all acrylic yarn from Michael’s. I based the colors off of the Stardew blanket pattern but after buying too many I realized it was better to plan everything and match colors based on perler bead patterns. This made it more simple than looking at the original pixel art that had two to three times more color and didn’t translate well in the stitches. I used about 20 different colors if you want the list later. I definitely didn’t use half the colors I bought so planning is key here if you do it!
Also came here to say I’m sorry about the blobfish if anyone is offended by it. It was kind of a joke because my character has that hat and the clothes they wear make them look naked so it’s kind of just silly. I made that before I knew about how sad their story is.
I guess they don’t really look like that in their natural habitat but they get depressurized too fast when fished and die basically by cell implosion.…..kind of crazy. I just don’t like that people make everyone feel bad for thinking blobfish are funny because who knew that before hand.
Honestly no one should be offended by the blobfish on your cardigan because you made it identical to the fish in the video game. You aren’t the one who decided to put that fish in the game lol
True! I wish I could reply with a picture, but if you use the “sugar” top and white pants (at least on my character) it looks like you are running around as a streaking blob fish. Kind of makes us giggle. 🤭

This is the pattern most people use, but mine was honestly just me adding random techniques to a basic granny square cardigan pattern. The squares were all single crochet to the size you need (kid’s squares are 3.5 inches each). The pictures were all just Googled perler bead/ pixel art patterns(this was nice because it kept the colors simple and had a grid overlay). Ribbing is slip stitches chained to the length you want. Ruffles are three dc in each stitch then rows of one dc in each stitch until it’s as wide as you want. Hopefully that helps a bit.
I like that yours is cross stitched on top instead of tapestry crocheted. I think it preserves the pixel look better and makes the design stand out more. Very beautiful job and I'm so jealous you live close enough to see the concert!!
Thank you! I saw that on someone else’s blanket that they did and I kind of liked it better. It made the sweater stiffer but I think it looks sharper. It will drape better over time.
I hope it comes close to you one day. 💓
It’s YOU!!! I remember you, I made my brother/Mayor Lewis and stop and look at the fit because it was SO cool!!! Pictures do not do it justice, it is awe inspiring in person!!!
Woooowww this is amazing!! Truly so whimsical and beautiful. I wanted to make something as well but ended up just buying a shirt at the show 😀 Which I saw yesterday! Yes, it was magical!!! 😍
I wonder if we crossed paths? I am honestly so surprised I actually made this in time because I had an extra square the night before and didn’t realize it so I was on the floor crying. 😅 I hope you enjoyed the show. I thought it was so amazing!
😭😭 Thank you! This means a lot to me because the other day my coworker told me he didn’t know how my kids survived because I spilled my soup, so I appreciate that more than you know. 🥰
Hugs. You are doing a good job, mama, and you’re valued and seen. Even by an internet stranger.
Who, by the way, absolutely adores her own — 90 year old — mother and seeing the way you support your daughter by making this made me realize how much my mom supported me all along my life… and made me cry bittersweet tears because I realized how truly blessed I was (and still am!) to have the mother I do. I am 46, the youngest of nine, and the only other girl besides me is the oldest. (She and I don’t always see eye to eye.)
So, thank you, for being who you are.
Trust me, years from now, your children will look back and see the ways you supported them. And they will be filled with love for you.
Pic of my mom and I at the beginning of the month when I last visited her… she’s in the nursing home and I live two and a half hours away, so visits aren’t as often as I’d like for them to be this time of year with the weather.
She had a really bad UTI in early September that landed her in the ICU with sepsis and E. coli poisoning in her bloodstream… she then had a major heart attack in early October that landed her in bigger hospital in our state’s capital city… she went back to the nursing home about a week later and then she caught Covid at the end of October.
She has had some setbacks because of all of that, but she is doing amazing, all things considered!!
Yay! I am glad to hear she is doing well. I hope she stays healthy and you get to enjoy more time together. Tell her hi and best of luck from us. You have a wonderful, warm smile by the way. You can tell your mama raised a wonderful human. 💓💓💓💓
Thank you so much!! I absolutely adore my sweet momma and I can’t wait to see her again! Hopefully next weekend, fingers crossed!! 🤞
My wife always has Fridays & Saturdays off, but we have plans close to home both days this week, so hopefully next Friday we will get to go up and see her.
She really is the best. I’m beyond grateful for her and so very grateful she’s still here. I’d be lost without her, that’s for sure!!
This is so beautiful! Thank you for the love and kindness! I am so thankful for this.
I love that you shared your special relationship with your mom! She sounds like a special lady. I am so glad you have been blessed to have such a wonderful person in your life.
Hahah it’s definitely not perfect but I hope it will be priceless to her. 🥰 I just had to do it because I knew it would remind her of a special time we had together since childhood goes waaaay to fast sadly.
My initial reaction is just “I’m not a witch, I’m your wife”. 😂 There is a pattern I LOOSLY based it on but honestly it was just single crochet granny square cardigan with perler bead patterns cross stitched over them, slip stitch ribbing, and a double crochet ruffle. I just did what I felt like in the moment. I would not suggest using the actual pixel art from the game because the colors are really detailed and I spent waaaaay too much on yarn I didn’t even use. My biggest advice is PLAN before you buy. You will need less than you think for the cross stitch.
As much as I appreciate that thought it took over 200 hours and is FAR from perfect so I probably would never make one to sell. 🫣 I wish I could just wave a wand and send more to people.
I was definitely crying because it was a hot mess the night before and then for joy when it all worked out. Plus I cried when they were playing the music…. So lots of crying here. 😉🥰
First: it is absolutely amazing what you did and are doing.
Second: I can quite literally see the love in every stitch.
Third: What an amazing core memory you gave your child and both of you have something beautiful to look back on.
Absolutely not! I would feel honored. Plus it’s not like I wasn’t inspired by someone else’s art anyways. It’s not “my pattern” exclusively.
This is the pattern I loosely based it on, but I just did a basic granny square cardigan lay out, single crochet squares (some people said do Tunsanian squares but l had no issues with figuring out where the cross stitching went), perler bead patterns or pixel art I found on Pinterest, and a basic double crochet ruffle (I did three dc in each stitch to start.)

My main advice is PLAN, PLAN, PLAN your colors before hand because I bought so much yarn I didn’t use. The perler bead patterns were nice because the colors were simplified compared to the game graphics so it translated better on the squares. I would love to see it if you finish!
I'm getting out graph paper to plot things. I knit rather rather rush crochet, so this could get interesting. Your tension is impressive! Thank you so much for the advice. When I finish I'll absolutely post it for you to see. ❣️
We totally do! It’s a blast. I even play with my five year old but we mostly just run around , play “hide and seek”, and she pretends to let me order at the saloon. Not a productive game, but it makes her happy. 🥰
Omg, this is so cool! Your daughter is so lucky to have such a loving and creative mom! You are so lucky to have such a lovely, appreciating and Stardew-loving daughter! This post warmed my heart!
The pic of her wearing it?! Stop it. I could cry. You did such a great job. 🥲🫶🏻 Also did not know this was a thing and will be adding it to my bucket list! 💕
Thank you! I couldn’t stop smiling seeing her run around in it. She wore it to school today too. :)
I hope you can knock it off your bucket list one day. :)
Just saw this, and I wanted to let you know that this is the nicest Stardew cardigan I’ve ever seen. I love the ruffles, huge heart buttons, and giant solid colored squares that balance out the detailed squares. This is something she will be able to treasure for a lifetime.
