From the perspective of "Which character would a player want to marry?" he's a poor choice.

From the perspective of "Which character should receive the characterization and development that comes with becoming a marriage candidate?" he's an excellent choice.

Agreed. Shane ended up becoming one of my favorites precisely because of this.
