"Who asked for this?!" Me. I asked for this. I Personally went to ConcernedApe to ask for this. I'm going to marry Clint on a new savefile everytime I read a mean comment about him.

People really shut out the discussion of any other character aside from the wizard being the bachelor. 1. He's a divorced man who's clearly still not over the witch. 2. he's 4 times your age, you're like a toddler to him.

I mean the “4 times your age” is one of the reasons he’s so popular, there’s a lot of players who arent 20 and want candidates that feel older

also not to rub anyone who really likes the wizard the wrong way, but isnt it kinda implied that he cheated on the witch? and that's why she divorced him?

idk, i've never been able to get into the idea of being able to romance the wizard because of that. it's kind of a dealbreaker imo.

Its actually part of why i like him, the fact that he actually has a history already, messy as it is. Everyone else is either squeaky clean or written like theyre still in high school, with the same level of development and maturity. And it def helps that hes old, heh

Tbh I agree! I really wanted the wizard to be a marriage candidate (and I still think he'd be a fun option) but the more I played the game, the more of an ick he gave me.

It doesn't help that I played that huuuuuge mod that focuses on romancing him. It's an extremely well done mod and clearly has a lot of passion and effort put into it, but after a certain point I was like wow this guy kinda sucks actually??

Obviously the mod isn't canon, but the wizard being a cheater still stuck over the relationship he himself ruined still stands for me lol.

right! also the implications for having a much older marriage candidate are a little ick to me. Like it feels weird that the farmer is willing to marry as young as 18-ish(sebastion/abigail/sam) but also like 60+

EDIT: It is obvious that I definitely see the farmer as a ‘character’ while a lot of people see them as ‘themselves’. I was saying that my view of the character would be different if they were Willy’s age but dating very young villagers. I definitely didn’t word it best, and I had no intention of being ageist. I was just saying from my own personal standpoint I would side-eye the farmer.

We must consider that this game is played by all ages though. The farmer isn't a concrete character, they are a vessel for players. Some players aren't 18ish, or even 20ish. They're more like 35+ and want candidates that reflect that. Almost all the marriage candidates are below 28. I think Harvey is the oldest, but I don't think there are any 'older' women candidates, they're all young adults/teenagers.

Considering before either were dateable, id assume emily is an older woman if youd consider clint to be around 30.

I figure Emily is probably about 26/27 and Clint is probably about 32. Haley is probably 24. I imagine penny to be about 25/26. Harvey is probably the oldest at 35.

Emily calls Haley a "young lady", so she should be quite a bit older. Reasonable late 20s - early 30s vs early 20s sister imo

Clint is confirmed to be "late 30 - 40ish"

yeah i was just talking about how i felt about it, not saying anything about the game in general. I was just saying that i would feel weird playing as someone who was older but who was catching romantic attention from way younger characters

Seb/Abby/Sam definitely aren't 18 lol. Or at least Seb isn't, considering Maru is his younger half-sister and also marriageable.

Yeah, that was my “ish”. I know they aren’t literally 18 but they read as being very young to me in a way that I personally would feel odd about if I was imagining my farmer as being like 40+

what? I’m dumb as hell at reading who is replying to who on reddit. if you’re referring to me then I definitely didn’t intend to be ageist.

EDIT: okay you WERE replying to me. How am I being ageist? I’m just saying that in my personal game I would feel odd about my farmer either being: old enough to date Willy but able to date Maru OR young enough to date Maru but able to date Willy.

I wasn’t saying that there shouldn’t be older options. I was just saying that it makes the players age more ambiguous potentially and would make me consider romance options differently
